Hi, my credit card limit is RM3,000. But I am going to purchase a furniture which cost more than that. Just called HLB and the operator said I am not eligible to apply for temporary increase credit limit as I am new card holder. So if there is anyway I can do to get the credit limit increase? I ever read from 1 post, is it i will just transfer more money to the credit card, so the limit will increase? Let's say if I am buying a RM4,000 furniture. I will need to transfer RM1,000 in advance to the credit card. Then use the credit card to swipe RM4,000. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Why not use MyEg? The thing is almost all online transactions cards do not give cash back for MyEg. I used my general spending card - SCB Cash Back Gold to pay.

i turn the question the other way round: does post office accept credit card payment?

for roadtax, i prefer walk-in biggrin.gif post office is literally accessible everywhere, be it around your house or work place or even inside mall. i can get the roadtax on-the-spot without fee or waiting time.

downside is human traffic, finding car park, etc. Well, best time to go is opening time laugh.gif usually open 830am, just nice before 9am work.

just my preference la sweat.gif

I've seen the PIN and PAY advertisement at a few Post Offices and that should indicate that they support card payments, but not sure of the scope of card payment acceptance.

They don't have to put the terminal where it's easily seen, it might be inside the drawer and they'll take it out for payments.

hey all

not sure if this was asked before since I didn't see it anywhere
what are the pros or cons when applying a credit card via:

• urself through bank website
• urself in person directly with the bank
• through agent from booths
• through comparison websites (ringgitplus, comparehero, imoney, etc.)

the most obvious pros are the freebies that come along either upon registration or upon successful application but I would like to know if there's others. i.e. better success rate, easier annual wavier application, etc.

and while on topic, I’m a little puzzled about the whole freebies thing. I heard about cases such as upon successful application:

• agent not giving free gifts whereas bank does (agent took the gift for themselves)
• bank not giving free gifts but agent does (only agent specific promotion)
• only comparison website giving free gifts (comparison website only promotion)

any recommendations in this regard for which channel to apply through?

The first scenario, I would say it is impossible. Because bank send to customer directly.

Second scenario, basically agent use their commission to get the gift to attract you to apply.

3rd, comparison website is also just agents, but corporate agents. So, they get commission, and use part of it to give you freebies.

Because annual fee waiver is charged by bank, usually doesn't matter how you apply. Unless specific promo is available. Example, if you apply online at citi website or at booths, Citibank giving promo waive annual fee for 3 years for 2 of their cards.

I usually apply direct, so happen the gifts are better. But ringgit plus has been generous. Cons is actually just giving your contact to them. They will call you in future to sell you stuff. Or sms promos to you.

I have not failed any card application. So, i cannot know any difference in success rate. Usually no difference I believe.

HSBC I applied via website then they call to do some verification and then email me a link to upload all the required documents and got it approve within a week.

CIMB I applied via website too and everything is done via website. Fill in all my info and with document attached. Got it approve within 2 weeks.

Anybody got any idea if all top ups with overseas CC had been disallowed?
It seems strange but it seems that there had been restrictions on the usage of overseas Credit Cards in Malaysia...
Online phone prepaid are disallowed, tng top up at tng offices, even ordering domino pizza online....
This seems to be peculiar to Malaysia, I thought that Visa/MC have regulations on the acceptance of CC? Any foriegn card surcharges are borne by the card holder, i don't see why the disparity.

bump u here for general questions ....

usually malaysian merchants only accepts Malaysia CCs.

you need to check with respective merchant whether they accept non-malaysian cc.

Retailers can set a minimum amount for credit card use. Cannot!

But this one is tricky. Obviously, credit card companies want you to use your credit card for every purchase, all those small amounts add up for them.

However, retailers are hesitant as they face additional costs for accepting a credit card payment.

Contractually, retailers in Malaysia are not allowed to either impose a minimum amount or force you to pay a surcharge or fee for credit card usage.

Unfortunately, it happens all the time and it is hard to fight it if you are set to buy something. If you are upset, you could report the retailer to the bank who owns the retailer’s credit card terminal (see logo on the terminal or on your receipt).
