Hi all, I am pondering a question. In decision making of choosing good fund manager, one of my criteria is good benchmark against the market. The good fund manager should perform better than market and bad ones perform worse than market. Is there any flaw to this criteria?

Because, I don't really understand that some of UT are well recommended but actually having rather unsatisfactory performance against benchmark. E.g.:

TA Global Tech

not sure about others...but for me, i did not look at bench mark when selecting funds.....
i looked at how it performed against it peers.....in terms or ROI and risk reward....
thus if sometimes there is no other peers available......i just looked at how it's ROI performance compared with my other funds in the portfolio....

no point of having a fund that performed better than bench mark but are not running any where near my other funds in my portfolio....

well that is just me...not sure about others.

Guys, will appreciate a reply.

What time will FSM bank in the funds to your bank account on the settlement date usually?

Quite important to know this.

Thanks!

I would remove Quantum and replace with Global Emerging Market fund  hmm.gif  Quantum fund has overlap with Cimb APDI...  hmm.gif
No love for REITs?  laugh.gif

Erh...
Actually cimb apdi doesnt overlap with affin quantum because cimb can invest to samsung alibaba tencent, but quantum cannot.
This year these giant asia tech stock surge close to 70%, but becuase of quantum cannot invest to them, so its performance just so so...

in other words, CIMB APDI is superset of quantum so no point holding quantum if you already own CIMB APDI hmm.gif

Yup, many info in fsm faq are not updated or confusing. For example, no switching lag time for wholesale funds.

If i m u, i wont sell eq fund directly, i normally switch eq fund to bond fund first for credit, sell bond fund when need money.

There isn't much overlap between quantum and cimb apdi.

This is proven by the correlation result in morning star.

Quantum primary charter is malaysia, phillippines and singapore.

Cimb apdi has very little exposure in those countries.

Quantum has higher correlation with KGF than Cimb apdi.

I think it is somewhat true, isn't it ? The best realistic return yearly for UTF is 10+ %.

Maybe can retire rich but cannot retire young.

Yes true, if qualified by "if you want to retire rich and young". UTF will not give you that.

One would need to go for higher returns investments to"retire rich and young".

Higher returns, higher risks, and you could lose your pants.

After trying to understand all the morningstar info, i found that

TA Global Tech & CIMB-Principal global Titan correlation is 0.85
CIMB-Principal Asia Pacific Dynamic income & CIMB Greater China Equity correlation is 0.81

And also my PF is very heavy on Asia which is 69.07%, Americas 18.62%, Europe 12.30%, should i reduce on Asia?

My top 10 Countries is:
China 21.75
United States 17.80
India 11.65
Malaysia 9.28
Australia 6.21
Taiwan 5.53
Singapore 3.59
Japan 3.09
Hong Kong 2.48
United Kingdom 2.43

Should i reduce on China?

Now with all this overwhelming info, how to i pick the best fund to balance out my PF rclxub.gif

Currently fund that i have:

Affin Hwang Select Bond Fund - MYR - 10%
CIMB-Principal Asia Pacific Dynamic Income Fund - MYR - 20%
CIMB-Principal Global Titans Fund - 20%
CIMB-Principal Greater China Equity Fund - 10%

Another 40% how should i distribute? After taking the test in FSM, i just found out that i'm an aggressive investor if it means anything.

Thanks everyone for helping out.

hmm.gif my uneducated guess is....the higher the number (1.0) means the more correlated of the 2 funds under comparison.
the (-ve) number means lesser correlation.

while waiting for responses,....you can try read this for some added info...
