Actually, I did a compounding interest calculation assuming regular additions, the 1.5-1.75% sales charge doesn't really impact returns in the long run (I used 30 years as a holding period, as I assume most of us here are long term investors). If I remember correctly, it reduced CAGR by <0.05% (since sales charge is charged upfront and not compounded like mngment fee which is already accounted for in annual returns).

If you wanna use eunittrust, go ahead. But eventually, the sales charge will be increased as they gain more clients (I assume), and thus doesn't matter much in the long run la...

Good luck investing!

ps. probably not a good idea to insult FSM in front of FSM clients as I'm sure a lot of people will get triggered biggrin.gif

I really don't see this as an insult honestly

It's good to have discussion like this. Malaysia is unique in where we don't have easy access to good ETF that have both low fees and also we can mix n match ourselves. Closes is those robo advisory that we have no control over.

UT seems to be the only available choice locally. And given enough pressure, I hope eventually they too will lower down their fees to a level comparable to ETF. Fingers cross.

UT is pretty much taking a 10k feet view on things to invest. Not everyone has the knowledge to invest in stocks. And I always believe it's very important to have a good understanding of the thing we chose to invest in.

Yep, hopefully eunittrust as a competitor will also encourage FSM to be more efficient and further lower their sales charge to be more competitive... Competition will always benefit us the consumers rclxm9.gif

Yes. I am appreciative of the level of data they allow us to get from the system. If they offer actual support to access their data for us to analyze even better. For that I am willing to pay their sales fee definitely. Getting proper data is hard and factsheets and some simple graphs on screen won't do honestly.

Thanks. 0.5% is good, just wish they extend it beyond end July as right now the good stocks/UTs are expensive

or this
Regular Savings
An investor may invest in unit trusts funds by making regular (e.g. monthly or quarterly) investments to their fund.
This may be a more disciplined approach to invest in unit trust funds. By making equal and regular contributions over a period of time, this may reduce the impact of market volatility.
This is commonly known as dollar cost averaging.

If someone is doing DCA and has been topping up consistently on a fixed day in the week (for weekly) or particular date (in a month) - would it still be considered DCA if they defer the topping up on a day which is 'super good' for the market as it is akin to timing.. but here the defer is just a day or 2 when there is profit taking or a dip.. and then top up then.

i guess in the long run - it doesnt really matter but wonder what do you guys practice?

DCA should be automated and does not require any manual intervention from the user.

But hey if you are free to do that just go ahead.

thumbup.gif i am still staying invested in this 2, but i have turn cautious. Too much optimisim in the market. I will take a slightly contrarion stance and add a little bit more defensive fund. I am at 57% equity, 26% defensive, 17% cash now sweat.gif
