Hi guys. Was thinking of buying into Affin Hwang Select Bond but with the recent BNM OPR cut, is this still advisable? Bonds only make up 20% of my portfolio and this is mainly just for diversification purposes. And since this fund mainly invests in Asia region, it should be ok rite? Thanks.

Guys if my UTs declare distribution of income and the NAV drops, FSM will reinvest the income so performance figures will be back up soon?

Hi guys need some advice... Was looking for a balanced fund to invest in and 2 on my radar are Affin Select Balanced and Dana Makmur Pheim. Both quite similar on the fees side, DMP outperforms ASB by 1% long term. ASB is more conservative in their choices, investing into more large cap. DMP's choices ah... some never even heard before sia... But despite this ASB's PTR is quite high compared to DMP's (which indicated DMP is much more confident in their picks) 🤯😵

Wanna know you guys' opinion on this

used the chart center tool to see the movements of returns of this 2 funds for the last 3 yrs...
looks like the returns of Dana Makmur Pheim are much more volatile when compared to Affin Select Balanced during the last 3 yrs period.

Yes it is. I'm leaning more toward DMP as I'm already exposed to large cap stocks via EPF or AmanahSaham.

Still cannot fight with eunittrust their number 1 competitor

Actually, I did a compounding interest calculation assuming regular additions, the 1.5-1.75% sales charge doesn't really impact returns in the long run (I used 30 years as a holding period, as I assume most of us here are long term investors). If I remember correctly, it reduced CAGR by <0.05% (since sales charge is charged upfront and not compounded like mngment fee which is already accounted for in annual returns).

If you wanna use eunittrust, go ahead. But eventually, the sales charge will be increased as they gain more clients (I assume), and thus doesn't matter much in the long run la...

Good luck investing!

ps. probably not a good idea to insult FSM in front of FSM clients as I'm sure a lot of people will get triggered biggrin.gif

I really don't see this as an insult honestly

It's good to have discussion like this. Malaysia is unique in where we don't have easy access to good ETF that have both low fees and also we can mix n match ourselves. Closes is those robo advisory that we have no control over.

UT seems to be the only available choice locally. And given enough pressure, I hope eventually they too will lower down their fees to a level comparable to ETF. Fingers cross.

UT is pretty much taking a 10k feet view on things to invest. Not everyone has the knowledge to invest in stocks. And I always believe it's very important to have a good understanding of the thing we chose to invest in.

Yep, hopefully eunittrust as a competitor will also encourage FSM to be more efficient and further lower their sales charge to be more competitive... Competition will always benefit us the consumers rclxm9.gif

What I would do is see if the fund manager has any sudden change in investment strategy, if not I continue DCA since in it for the long run. Either that or if the fund is underperforming similar funds then I'll sell.

Also has anyone read this article:
https://dividendmagic.com.my/that-1-fee-imp...ng-on-your-own/
Quite misinterpreted as fund fees already counted in returns...

Congrats to all that bought China funds, good year 😂😂. Most of y'all taking profit or DCA still?

Maybe consider diversifying into other regions. I think 1 or 2 funds in China/Asia are enough, perhaps can diversify into the Western side or even Malaysia (I own DMP and historical returns are about 9+%, so MY funds not too bad if you do your research and identify solid funds).

Hi all, question here related to calculating performance:

How do you all calculate your performance?? The ROI that FSM gives us in the portfolio section is not a very effective way of looking at performance especially if we RSP (which most of us do) cuz it only takes the return on dollar invested...

So do you all just use the CAGR values in the 'analyze my portfolio' section? Or some other way?

I recently start tracking TWR, MWR and ROI

Each is a measurement of slightly different way of measuring portfolio performance.

I see...

When people refer to 'annual return' of funds, they usually refer to the CAGR or MWR/TWR, not the return on dollar invested?
