I never agree with using those metal wire cage. A lot of disadvantages:
1. Hamster's legs might get stuck to it.
2. Hamster will bite - BISING!
3. All the shavings might come outta cage when the hamster dig holes.
4. Will rust - poisonous when da hamster go and bite or lick it.

Those toyogo container will only cost u around RM 30 which I think is about the same price as those metal wire cage lar. It's jz that u need to spend extra RM 20 to get a bowl and water bottle and running wheel. RM 30 - u can get a super big toyogo already which is super spacious for them. If u think that consume a lot of space and u don't have the space, u could get the one below RM 20. Jz like mine, i bought one new one the other day for RM 13.90 only neh - cheap and spacious for one syrian only - about the siez of 2ft aquarium tank. The choice is up to u tho .

yeah .. if ur hamster is pregnent, change to plastic one. after 2-3 weeks then transfer to the normal cage .. just to make sure everything is safe ..

plastic tank = money only ... maybe between 20-30 ringgit
died pup coz head stuck = ??? think again !!!

oh ya .. the 7 pups are healthy and getting bigger a bit. I can see clearer markings today and I assume there'll be one or two that look(s) like daddy

get a big aquarium tank... make sure its tall enough so u dont have to close the top for better ventilation... can see them from the sides too... manyak bagus.....

last time the aquarium shop where i used to buy hamster food giving away a vr big aquarium (about 1m+ long) as trash (written there "ini sampah, sila buang")... its still in good condition, but vr dirty la inside... i see inside still can contain rain water, means no leakage... too bad, the aquarium too big for me to bring home la... besides, i not staying here permanently.... holiday need to travel back hometown.... haihz...

plus plus, i keeping syrians, cannot house everyone inside a tank... if other species i sure take adi....

Anyways, i notice that many hamster owners assume that hamsters are to to be kept in pairs or groups.

Alot of my friends do keep different species in the same cage, i really feel sad for the hammies. =(

I've tried to persuade my classmate to remove the different species. She has 2 unknown breed(both male) and 1 WW(female). 3 of them are all in the same cage now, and fighting alot(according to my friend).
However, after listening to my advise, she still doesnt want to seperate them. haizzz.....

All their excuse is the same
"They wont fight one la."
"They are just playing only"
"They are still small"
"They will be lonely"
and the list goes on.

I told her, if the 2 male's breed is unknown, then why would you want to put them together with the female which is WW? Isn't that a risk??
And also, WWs are better to live alone.

She seems to be seeing it like a game, and did not treasure the hamsters life! She will come to me and say : " The big male likes the female, the female likes him too...but the small male is feeling jealous bla bla bla"

To me, it is like playing a game on them!
but what to do, she doesnt want to listen!

haha..u r rite..last time they did have a chance to bite it (BISING!!!!!!)but when i buy this new one..they cannot reach it because the plastic part is quite height for the papa and mama..only can reach it if standing on something...usually if they go to 2nd floor, they just sleep inside the house..beside that..they just lepak2 on th ground floor..

oo..so i just get the toyogo box laa...the small one..haiya..still have to think where to let go the old one..where did u get that cheap toyogo box?i think i still can recycle the bowl and the runnning wheel(i have the stand)..so..how to put the bottle?currently all the bottle that i bought have to ikat / have the holder that can be place at the metal wire..hurm..for the time being, my hamster's leg never get stucked between the barred because it is quite big enough for leg to get stucked (they dun like the 2nd floor pun..jarang2 naik)but for the head..hurm..this is the first case..the jarak of the metal is quite same size with the little notty pups..

but my sister currently using the cages that have the metal bar oso on the floor of the cages..last time, her RC's leg get stuck when she is trying to clean the lower side..the plastic thing that can be pull out like ala2 laci meja tuh..so now..she oredy cabut the metal part and only left the plastic part..so problem solved..they live happily ever after

i got all my toyogos at carrefour. Sometimes got sales... i got mine at RM12.90 is not mistaken.........its around 1.5ft.

i got 5 of them. 3 tebuk lubang using soldering iron. Lepas tu sakit hati lah....then i change method. Use a wire and hang at the corner of the tank.
U can check the 1st page for the pics.
Although doesn't look nice, but ok je lah.....

Gerbils, number 1 excape expert, confirm no no no.........unless u use a wire mesh cover lah, haha.............

no need to tebuk la... hang with wire is better... later when u decide to change the interior design u can move the bottle where ever u like... without leaving any 'kecacatan' to the box...

I bought mine at carrefour too - cheaper at carrefour (i think ). For me, I use screw driver and burn it until hot hot. Then I pierce thru the container lor to put the head of the water bottle. THen I use small nail - burn until hot hot again) - and pierce two holes on top to hang the water bottle. I use candle to burn coz I dun haf soldering iron.... hehe.

Mine is RM 13.90. Should be slightly bigger than urs (i think). I bought it during carrefour anniversary - CHEAP

dun think it's orite for gerbils. Gerbils are good escaper unless if u cover the top with wire mesh or some other stuffs .

Got one looks like agouti ww to me .. hehe. Mine can see marking only and it's still pink with some black markings. So i still kenot verify the colours yet. But can see very tiny tiny fur starting to grow. Got one pup - the largest one among all - his ears popped up today; So cute neh . I might decide to keep a few of the pups depending on the colour varieties. Will plan on breeding project after exams. LOVER SYRIANS!!!

Big suggestion.... sell away your cages and change to tanks.... Robo hamsters should never be kept in cages.... If say 5 years ago, petshop do sell cages suitable for Robos with smaller cage bar gaps... but it became a hassle and cost more to manufacture those cages so stopped production. Your pics show the cages as suitable more for larger hamsters like Syrians....

It's not funny to see the hamster get stuck like that.....

Metal wire cage, RM30 is small small ones.... RM30 toyogo box is way way WAYYYY much better hahahah....

Actually, we can DIY 2nd floor.... Use hot glue gun and clear acrylic plastic, can glue the 2nd floor and add a small metal ladder.... I'm gonna do that soon hehehe.

Gerbil tak boleh loh.... I tried before, ended up my RM16.80 clear storage box from IKEA kena chewed up... this is cause the plastic is not hard enough.
