anyone here ever bathed their hamsters with bathing sand/powder... how to do it & what brand is the good one...?

Syrians do not sand bath coz their fur is never that greasy... sand bath more for hamsters that have greasy fur, it get rids of the oils properly and condition the fur. For Syrians, I groom using just a toothbursh... just brush the fur is enough.

hun... i'd like to make my Syrians fat lah...not so damn fat lah, but 'good-looking' fat... any idea what is the 'specific' food...?

I don't think hamsters can sweat. THey have fur. Not like us. They most prob drool to loose heat.

i dunno whether this is normal to Syrians... but mine both are so active (maybe bcoz not fat YET...)... they really run on wheels from around 11pm to 6am... even when my wife wake up in the middle of the night somewhere around 3am to prepare milk for my son, still can hear them running...    so i think if they are fat a bit can slow down the running la... quite noisy also....

Get the silent spinner or put some lubricating oil on the axle of the wheel.

Why do you want them to be fat? Don't think of just making them fat. As long as you feed them a good balanced diet, they will eventually gain weight. That's what's happened to most of my hams so far, that's why they look so chunky.

My ww.. I feel like wanna cekik it sometimes. I put the bedding nicely for it and it'll kick one spot away in the corner then pee there, as a result, the pee won't be absorbed by the bedding and it'll stink. grrrr...

Bald area with some red spots? Nah.... don't think it's dangerous or anything.... it could be the bedding dirty since 1 week you left it.

I just Googled hamster hair loss, the_catacombs, you should try and read up about it there.

Anyway, hairloss got a few types... 1 is from bad nutrition... well, I think you feed your hamster well rite? Sometimes hair loss can be a sign of vitamin problems...

Another would be mites.... they are really microscopic mites so you cannot see with your eyes, must use microscope lah. Normally can call this mange. You hamster got any dandruff coming out? If yes, bring to vet to treat.

Another thing about hairloss... hamsters around 2 years old is considered old in hamsters... and just like old people, we also experience hair loss.... so old hamsters will have hair loss... but yours only at the butt... so... I do not think it could be a sign of old age yet.

Ur custom made cage looks nice, but the problem is the bedding will be kicked out often wor.....
Since ur hamster got bulu problem, try change to breeder celect see see, and u'll have a cleaner floor also wor......
