I just started working and have been researching which credit card is suitable for fresh graduates who are starting their careers (with an annual income of RM24,000) and trying to build a good credit score for future loans. I found that the UOB One Credit Card is often referred to as the "first credit card" and is frequently mentioned on Xiao Hong Shu and Facebook because it’s easy to get, has simple terms, low fees, and offers attractive cashback rewards. Its ease of approval and reputation as a trusted bank make it a popular choice for first-time credit card users. Is this true?

I didn’t choose the HLB Wize card because its weekday benefits didn’t seem that great, though the weekend cashback is quite impressive. After considering everything, I decided to go with the UOB One. That’s why I’m asking here: Is there any other credit card that might be more suitable than the UOB One? Please recommend one for me!   notworthy.gif  I plan to use it for daily purchases like groceries, occasionally for petrol, and sometimes for entertainment.

1. Annual Income: > RM100K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Not a must, depends on benefits.

3. Card required for: Best all in one (too greedy?) Cash back, airmiles (bonus if have). Mainly used for Dining, Insurance payments (autodebit), Petrol, TNB, Maxis, Time Broadband, Online Transactions, Groceries.

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank 2 Platinum, Ambank Visa Signature.

Was looking at the RHB Shell Chard, I think may be able to hit the monthly speed ≥ RM2500.
I will free up from the AMEX/weekend restriction. And allows for rebate from utilities and insurance payments, i think ?

Need some recommendations:

1. Annual Income: RM180K and above

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must, doesn't mind calling to ask for waiver, but not Amex platinum that must pay RM3k annual fee type

3. Card required for: Dining, e-wallet reload (shopeepay), all retail spent is ideal, prefer cash back but good airmiles conversion that are not limited to Enrich works too, some overseas spend

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank Barcelone VS, Amex plat for weekend 5%, Alliance VS cashback card, Affin Duo, Public bank VS, CIMB TWE, UOB Premier miles elite, Standard Chartered Simply Cash (will be canceling after Apr)

5. Interested in CC from: HSBC VS for lucrative Ringgit Plus promo; is RHB any good?

6. Others: Any cards that give good benefits for paywave transactions?

There is way you can use M2C Amex to cover Maxis, Time Broadband. Pay these via POS Online, charge to Shopee PayLater. Then on weekend use M2C Amex to settle Shopee PayLater.

RHB Shell Visa give cb for Petrol, Online Transactions, Groceries. You may use Dining as filler.
For TNB, pay via myTNB app for example, and charge to RHB Shell Visa. Similarly for other utilities.

For Insurance payment auto debit, you may consider Affin DUO - 3% cb capped at RM30 for e-Commerce/Online Transactions, eWallet, Auto-Billing.
Or Bank Islam Visa Platinum-i - 3% cb capped at RM30 for Online, Auto Billings, Grocery and Dining, monthly spend must > RM500.

RHB Shell Visa - you can use it to reload Shopee Pay - 5% cb capped at RM50 (RM1k), but then you need filler to hit minimum spend RM2500

For paywave transactions, consider Affin DUO+ - 3% cb capped at RM50 for contactless transactions.

You can pay Maxis through the MAE app and select M2P Amex directly.

Thanks for taking the time to reply ! Seems like there's no one-card-fits-all card for me, haha.
Just did a compilation of my expenses. Insurance is the single largest monthly expense for me, around 15-20% depending on the month. But still not sure if it warrants to get a card just for it.

Just realised Dining is not part of the CB. Hmm, will have to analyse again with the new info.

Thank you !

Hmm, what function is it under ? Is it just under "Pay Bills" ?
It works for the CB ? I always thought its similar to JomPay and that is not eligible right ?
Anyways, mine is Hotlink Postpaid, not sure can pay to "Maxis" anot. Even if yes, my handphone bill is minimal in the grand scheme of things anyways.

I just got BIMB Visa platinum today, and will enrol the autopsy (autopay) for the insurance. Let's see when or if the CB will be credited to my account.

So have you gotten CB for autopay for insurance?

1. Annual Income: RM120K+

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Preferably yes

3. Card required for: Best all in one Cash back, airmiles (bonus if have). Mainly used for Dining, Insurance payments (autodebit), Petrol, Utilities, Online Transactions, Groceries.

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank 2 Gold, Aeon Gold Visa, RHB Rewards Motion Code, HSBC Platinum Credit Card

I think I'm looking to upgrade my cards. One of the card I have is the RHB one which was changed by them from Classic card which I got in 2008 when my annual salary was 24k. RHB never really upgraded anything and I'm still on very minimal credit limit on that card. So I'm kinda looking to upgrade my cards.

1. Annual Income: RM30K to RM60K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must (but okay if easily waived and not expensive)

3. Card required for:
- Cashback on Petrol (daily commute of 100km, might reduce after job relocation)
- Cashback on Online Shopping (Shopee, Lazada, etc.)
- Cashback on Groceries
- Direct cashback preferred over reward points (but open to points if benefits are clearly better)

4. Existing credit cards (if any):
- RHB Islamic Rewards (Not activated)
- RHB Islamic Cash Back (Not activated)
- HLB Sutera Visa Platinum (Not activated, annual fee charged but waivable upon activation)
- HLB WISE Visa Gold (Not activated, annual fee charged but waivable upon activation)
(Note: All were applied at a booth set up in my company – applied out of curiosity, haven’t activated any)

5. Interested in CC from: Any bank (currently eyeing CIMB Cash Rebate Platinum)

6. Others:
- First time credit card user
- I regularly spend on Shopee, possibly RM500/month or more, but I don’t track it closely so it may vary
- Prefer cards without overly strict maintenance requirements (e.g. high min spend or too many swipes)
- Want to avoid paying annual fees unless the card gives strong value
- Optional: EPP (Easy Payment Plan) – might use later
- Main goal: Build credit score as I'm just starting to use credit cards
- Ideally looking for 1 beginner-friendly card that covers petrol + online shopping
- Open to learning basic stacking strategy if worth it

Please cancel all the credit cards that you dont plan to use. You don't just simply apply out of curiosity. You don't want to leave it hanging and have balance owing just because you didn't cancel it. Just don't do it...

Recommended easy to use card --> Maybank 2 card amex.

The cards should be also showing up on CCRIS I guess? At least they will show that they were approved by the FIs. How can one apply so many cards “out of curiosity”?

Maybe change your RHB card to RHB Shell Visa, 12% cb for Shell petrol cap at RM50, 5% cb cap at RM50 for Groceries, Online, E-wallet, Utilities, min spend RM2500.

For auto debit, can consider Affin DUO, 3% cb cap at RM30 for e-Commerce/Online Transactions, eWallet Reloads/Transactions, Auto-Billing.

I applied since 3 Mar and until now still no news. Check eCCRIS status still outstanding. Really speechless on the speed of approval for Bank Islam credit card

QUOTE(ideaplus @ Mar 7 2025, 08:45 AM)
I applied and received a call from the Bank another day.
After I submit all required documents, the bank needs to verify my employment status.
The whole process from applying until the card is ready for collection, which is roughly 7-10 days.
But I have been informed I need to walk in to collect and need to do biometric verification as well.
