Just to reconfirm... >RM240k is your personal and direct income in Malaysia, ie you will file Form B/BE 2020 by 30 April 2021 or 30 June 2021.

Yes, back to working in Malaysia. Yup, I will file income tax in 2021. Right now my proof of income is offer letter, a few payslips, and 2 months of maybank statements.

Haha, for high income group, there are 2 types of people, high flyers chasing for airmiles and spending a lot on travelling and fine-dining -> all kind of Visa Infinite CC including Maybank Premier CC / Visa Infinite (Note: Annual fee RM800, waived only if annual spend >RM80000);

Some people just like to earn cashback then you may end up having a lot of cashback credit cards (normally monthly cashback is capped at RM30/RM50/RM80, not unlimited) -> Maybank FC Barcelona Visa Signature (1% cashback for general use excluding Government, charities, e-wallets and utilites) or Maybank M2 Visa+Amex Platinum (if you aim for cashback, get Platinum instead of Premier).

Since you are banking with Maybank, apply your first CC at Maybank Card Centre (1Utama / The Gardens) or branch, don't use M2U Online Application or third-party referral service.

https://www.maybank2u.com.my/maybank2u/mala...ds_listing.page

There are some good cashback cards,
(1) Public Bank Visa Signature (online, groceries, dining and 2x free access to Plaza Premium Lounge) (you may add Quantum Visa and Quantum Mastercard as well - for online / paywave transactions)
www.pbebank.com
(2) Visa Duo Visa+Mastercard (Visa for Online / Direct Debit transactions)
www.affinbank.com.my
(3) RHB Visa Signature (online, entertainment, club, shopping and 5x free access to PPL)
www.rhbgroup.com
(4) Hong Leong Bank Essential, Wise etc.
www.hlb.com.my
(5) Standard Chartered Just-one Platinum, Liverpool Mastercard

Thank you so much for detailed recommendations.
I am not the high flying type, hahaha...
Will probably stick with one card, and check out the Maybank cards you recommend.
Again, thanks a bunch.

Best pick:
Maybank 2 card premier (min spend 80k for annual fee waiver). And best airmiles earning.

For klia lounge access can consider scb worldmiles. Or maybe uob VI for some potential regional ones. Most likely you will run out of free lounge access at some point but at least still got unlimited klia lounge...

Check out CIMB Travel World Elite. They are running a program now that gives 10x points for every RM1 spent, which translates to RM1 = 1 Mile.

Thank you for recommendation notworthy.gif Will check these out

Sifu,

Bank told me they can get me invitation to AmBank Priority Banking Visa Infinite Credit Card (need to put in fd, which I need to move from MBB).
I look at the terms of this AmBank Priority Banking Visa Infinite Card, it seems to offer more lounge access and free for life as well.
But I could not work out how the air miles conversion work, this and all the cards you recommend.

What is your opinion? How this card compare?

Thank you.

1. Annual Income: > RM300k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: free or can be waived by certain spending better.

3. Card required for: cash back for Insurance premium, Nirvana installments, etc

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Alliance Visa Infinite (collect points on online spending / e-wallet (not much), overseas spending, airport lounge), Alliance Visa Signature (cash back on utilities, groceries, dining, petrol, misc, charge RM3K per month on this already), Ambank Visa Infinite (airport lounge)

5. Interested in CC from: Maybank Barcelona Visa Signature

6. Others:
Used to have Maybank Visa Signature, but cancelled it.
Is Maybank Barcelona Visa Signature good for my purpose - insurance, Nirvana, etc or there is better cash back card?

Thank you.

1. Annual Income: > RM400k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: preferably free or at least can waive by spending specific amount

3. Card required for: Overseas transaction

4. Existing credit cards (if any):
AmBank Priority Banking Visa Infinite - Lounge access, not use for anything else
Alliance Visa Infinite - Rewards points from Overseas transaction, a bit of online transactions
Alliance Visa Signature - cash back (spend RM3k per month)
RHB Shell Visa - cash back (spend RM2.5k per month)
Maybank Barcelona Visa - cash back (spend RM5k per month)

5. Interested in CC from: BSN Visa Cash Back - 1% cash back on overseas transactions no cap, is there better alternative?

6. Others:
I am happy with the 3 cash back cards that I have (Alliance Visa Signature, RHB Shell, Maybank Barcelona), I get full cash bank every month from them.

I travel overseas for work about 10 days per month. Airline tickets are paid directly by company. Right now I spend > RM10k per month on hotels, foods, taxi etc overseas (claim back from company later), and I use Alliance Visa Infinite to collect points.

Please advise if it is still worthwhile to collect Rewards Points from overseas transactions?

The BSN 1% cash back catch my eyes. Is there better cash back cards for overseas transactions?

Thank you for your advice thumbup.gif

Don't know much about cash back. The next question is what are you collecting the points for? Is it for flyer miles or redeem stuff?

For instance, for Alliance Visa Infinite, though the reward multiplier is high for overseas transactions, you can only redeem Enrich Miles.

For local spend

1. Amex Platinum Charge card RM1.40/EM
2. Alliance VI + Plat + Vcard RM1.88/EM
3. HLB VI RM3.50/EM
4. AmBank Enrich VI RM4/EM
5. MBB World MC RM4/EM
6. HSBC VS RM4.20/EM

For Foreign Spend

[attachmentid=11505142]

If you are gunning to get the most points for overseas transactions, then the best card would be UOB PME. Then again, recently, effective 23rd September 2024, the Air Miles conversion rate for both the UOB VI and UOB PRVI Miles Elite will be inflated to 12K UNIRM  (Previously 9K)= 1K Air Miles/Enrich/AirAsia etc...

Ultimately, it boils down to what you want and your end goal.
*
Thank you so much for your reply thumbup.gif

The fact is I never really have a 'goal' for collecting those points for overseas transactions.
All of my local spends are charged to cash back cards.
Now I have around 1m points with Alliance Visa Infinite and don't know what to do with it.
Never collect frequent flyer miles sweat.gif as I don't travel as hobby / leisure.
And checking through Alliance rewards catalogue, don't see anything that I want.

That's why I was thinking should I change and charge overseas transactions to cash back cards rather than keep collecting reward points.
If rewards points is still more 'worthwhile' compared to cash back for overseas transactions, then I seriously need to think about how to spend those points biggrin.gif

Affin bank seems to have 0% FPP right now till June 2025.
But I am not sure whether college fees count as "retail transaction" stated in t&c.

if purely targeting the spend to hit RM88 cb per month (ie RM1760 per month only); then be mindful of the huge RM550 annual fee from year2 if annual spending didnt meet min RM30k (min RM2500 per month)

Yes, now I remember why I cancelled this card sweat.gif

Maybe Maybank Islamic Ikhwan Mastercard Platinum or Gold is better. 5% cb on Friday and Saturday cap at RM50 on Petrol and Groceries.

1. Annual Income: > RM100K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Not a must, depends on benefits.

3. Card required for: Best all in one (too greedy?) Cash back, airmiles (bonus if have). Mainly used for Dining, Insurance payments (autodebit), Petrol, TNB, Maxis, Time Broadband, Online Transactions, Groceries.

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank 2 Platinum, Ambank Visa Signature.

Was looking at the RHB Shell Chard, I think may be able to hit the monthly speed ≥ RM2500.
I will free up from the AMEX/weekend restriction. And allows for rebate from utilities and insurance payments, i think ?
*
There is way you can use M2C Amex to cover Maxis, Time Broadband. Pay these via POS Online, charge to Shopee PayLater. Then on weekend use M2C Amex to settle Shopee PayLater.

RHB Shell Visa give cb for Petrol, Online Transactions, Groceries. You may use Dining as filler.
For TNB, pay via myTNB app for example, and charge to RHB Shell Visa. Similarly for other utilities.

For Insurance payment auto debit, you may consider Affin DUO - 3% cb capped at RM30 for e-Commerce/Online Transactions, eWallet, Auto-Billing.
Or Bank Islam Visa Platinum-i - 3% cb capped at RM30 for Online, Auto Billings, Grocery and Dining, monthly spend must > RM500.

Need some recommendations:

1. Annual Income: RM180K and above

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must, doesn't mind calling to ask for waiver, but not Amex platinum that must pay RM3k annual fee type

3. Card required for: Dining, e-wallet reload (shopeepay), all retail spent is ideal, prefer cash back but good airmiles conversion that are not limited to Enrich works too, some overseas spend

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank Barcelone VS, Amex plat for weekend 5%, Alliance VS cashback card, Affin Duo, Public bank VS, CIMB TWE, UOB Premier miles elite, Standard Chartered Simply Cash (will be canceling after Apr)

5. Interested in CC from: HSBC VS for lucrative Ringgit Plus promo; is RHB any good?

6. Others: Any cards that give good benefits for paywave transactions?
*
RHB Shell Visa - you can use it to reload Shopee Pay - 5% cb capped at RM50 (RM1k), but then you need filler to hit minimum spend RM2500

For paywave transactions, consider Affin DUO+ - 3% cb capped at RM50 for contactless transactions.

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank 2 Gold, Aeon Gold Visa, RHB Rewards Motion Code, HSBC Platinum Credit Card

I think I'm looking to upgrade my cards. One of the card I have is the RHB one which was changed by them from Classic card which I got in 2008 when my annual salary was 24k. RHB never really upgraded anything and I'm still on very minimal credit limit on that card. So I'm kinda looking to upgrade my cards.
*
Maybe change your RHB card to RHB Shell Visa, 12% cb for Shell petrol cap at RM50, 5% cb cap at RM50 for Groceries, Online, E-wallet, Utilities, min spend RM2500.

For auto debit, can consider Affin DUO, 3% cb cap at RM30 for e-Commerce/Online Transactions, eWallet Reloads/Transactions, Auto-Billing.
