The funny thing is it seems only the web browsing would be disconnected... not my IM or P2P or even ping. I think.

Did anyone logged a complaint with Maxis about this before?

Whats the default upload speed for 1Mbps package?

I called maxis but the guy said my case closed, but the vendor have been informed bout my installation. I told them i juz called the vendor. The guy said will check again. Was 2 bz 2 get pissed, got a few missed calls from maxis i guess.

Then in the afternoon got a call from a guy sayin his comin 2 instal the thing! Hallelujah!!

Am home now and what can i say.....impresive....very impresive....

Yes... those lousy good for nothing installer... happened to me before... lost my form la... maxis haven't process la... this la... that la... took them over a month before coming. I actually called up the installer, technician and maxis to screw their ass almost daily. Good way to vent my frustration at that time. haha

If the upload speed is really capped at 64kbps, IMO it would be enough for a single user to use the connection but if you plan to share the connection, 64kbps of upload is just not enough. Plus it wouldn't seem to make sense if the download speed is at 1mbps while the upload at 64kbps.

From what i saw at their website just now,the terms and conditions that stated the download limitation is directly accessible(clickable) from the wired broadband info page so i believe it may apply to wired connection too.

actually, MAXIS BROADBAND FAIR USAGE POLICY is meant for both wireless and wired broadband, however, so far, anyone using maxis broadband and bt'ng??

5.3.1 Each customer's total usage per month shall NOT exceed 3GB of data volume transmitted (total upload and download usage). This is to ensure that no individual hogs the bandwidth at all times.

well... if this is strictly applied, no point also... simply download 3 movies gau dim jor... also called up maxis broadband customer service, and he said service would be barred if exceed 3Gb volume, any user can clarify this please?

and again... if so... what is the meaning to have 24x7 connection but we cant fully utilize it? *sigh*

Just register the standard package today, ask the promoter and read the T&C but did not found the 3GB limitation data transfer exceed policy.
I do ask the promoter about the policy but seem she just claims that u can download unlimited, (dunno whether is she lie?)
After I confirm that the contract T&C do not have the data limitation policy (Impossible the rules was invisible but will appear after I signed kuah ?), I have signed. Just feel will I regret after this? God bless me...
Actually do seeking for ownership transfer but hard to get reply, then due to the urgent of internet usage, somemore DigiMall have the Maxis promoter today, so I take the risk to go for it. sad.gif

5. Fair Usage
5.1 At Maxis, we want our broadband service to be fast and available for our customers at all times. This clause is designed with that goal in mind. Maxis views the vast majority of customers should not suffer from a slower service because of a very small number of high bandwidth users.
5.2 Peer-To-Peer and File Sharing Software
5.2.1 Certain software/applications which is used by a small number of customers to send and receive files containing very large amounts of data (including without limitation traffic from peer-to-peer software/applications (such as Bit Torrent, eDonkey, Gnutella) or file sharing software (such as Limewire)). These activities may cause network congestion and can negatively impact the speed at which other customers can access the internet.
5.2.2 Maxis does not guarantee a service level and/or connectivity to users of peer-to-peer or file sharing software/applications.
5.2.3 The system that is used to provide the Maxis Broadband service can identify very high bandwidth users and Maxis seeks to manage the customer's usage by throttling their bandwidth to a much lower broadband speed to ensure fairness to all customers.
5.2.4 The customers are reminded that the software (as mentioned in section 5.2.1 above) allows the download of illegal content which Maxis prohibits, which is an infringement of copyright and/or intellectual property rights and rightful owners of such copyright and/or intellectual property rights may take measures to prosecute. Each individual download can be traced by the customer's IP address back to the customer's account with Maxis.
5.2.5 Maxis reserves the right to release customer information pursuant to any copyright (and/or intellectual property right) infringement if it is required to do so by any law, regulatory body or court of law.

5.3 Excessive Usage
5.3.1 Each customer's total usage per month shall NOT exceed 3GB of data volume transmitted (total upload and download usage). This is to ensure that no individual hogs the bandwidth at all times.
5.3.2 If a customer wishes to use more than the volume permitted, a written request should be made to Maxis.
5.3.3 Maxis reserves the right to reject the said application or charge for any additional data volume transmitted from what is already allocated
.

6. Enforcement on Breach of Policy
6.1 In respect of the customers who are in violation of this Policy, Maxis may, at its option and discretion, have their bandwidth managed, service suspended or terminated (with or without notice as Maxis considers appropriate).
6.2 To report any illegal or unacceptable use of Maxis Broadband service, please send an email to customercare@maxis.com.my

very sad ...

Do you need a maxis line for maxis' wired broadband?

If your line is Telekom's, I think Maxis would have some trouble putting a broadband through the system, no?

My question is whether Maxis uses TMnet's backbone for connections outside of Malaysia.

no need to worry about the 3gb limitation(it is not being implemented).stability and connectivity is also good.the only thing that sux about maxis wired broadband is the customer service. try calling up and see.they don't even know what to do about package upgrades.
i went to the cs centre in ttdi to ask about upgrading my speed from 512mbs to 1mbs and the supervisor says i have to pay a penalty of rm83 per remaining months in contract on top of the higher monthly charges.i have to pay more just so i can pay more? is streamyx doing this aswell? the signup ppl told me when i first registered that if i wasn't satisfied with the speed then i could just call the hotline for a package upgrade without any issues.my advice is if u wanna signup make sure ur signing up for the right package.maxis has no time to limit your bandwith(they don't even have time to sync information between departments).if anyone has any information on package upgrades pls share here.thanks and mods, sorry if
i'm posting in the wrong thread.

it depends..
when the maxis broadband was launched....
many ppl register for it..
its fxxx!
i almost wait for a month to get the service! vmad.gif
but after that i dunno la
because that time they prepare not enought modem for installation! doh.gif (what kind of service?)
now i think is ok... smile.gif
and yet..i found tat their technical support team is good
last time ,there was a problem with my maxis broadband..
so i was very unhappy so that i called to maxis broadband CS immediately and complain to them!
then u noe what happen?
im suprise that after 1 day i complain to them
they straight away send a technician to my house and help me to settle my lines problem! brows.gif smile.gif thumbup.gif
im very satisfied with their working efficiency!

maybe u are just plain unlucky to get a trainee helpdesk operator sweat.gif

complains usually take at most 1 day for them.usually after a couple hours, they'll come to your house inspecting what kind of problems you had.

they even gave tips for my mom too for not putting the speakers too near the monitor, otherwise inteference will occur. laugh.gif

Yesterday I recevied direct mailer from Maxis Broadband asking me to sign up their service (HSDPA i.e 3.5G)...Offer is that all charges like installation, activation, deposit, bla bla bla are waive...Best part they waive the 18mth contract if I sign up during promo period. I only pay for subscription & modem rental fee only... Am still thinking of it..

Hi magiara. What is your download speed average? What client torrent you are using. I just subscript to maxis 512. First dl quite fast at 50kb/s. But second dl get 10+kb/s althrough many 1000 over seed. I m using utorrent and don't have a good networking connection even set the port forwarding. Maybe kena cap by maxis?
By the way, I m same area with you. smile.gif

kelvyn, Im from Jln Tempua 16.

You can come to my house and try it if you want... but you must enter naked though, kiddin

You want a tracert to wow? I suspended my account so I cant really provide u the exact performance, but I assume it should be stable

I still got the game installed at 2.1.3 you can bring your 2.1.3 to 2.2 patch for me and u can try at my house

As for WC3 bnet, it as stable as playing on IPX. So far I havent experience any spikes

As for BTing, I dont do it often, so I do it at night only. Im tweaking it as maxis got scary upload. I on max download at 20 kb and upload at 5 kb

Else the upload can shoot up to 100++ and I scare I might get into trouble

By the way, what is the outgoing server for maxis? smtp.maxis.com or smtp.maxis.net or..... I can't send mail out as my email is jaring.

Gentlemen, maxis wired is having a promotion. They waive all the start up fees (eg registration, installation, deposit, what not) worth rm300. They waive 12 months of their land line phone fees (rm25/mth for 12 mths).

Promotion ends Nov 30.

Now, I am a maxis wireless broadband user. Should I change to wired? Is wired better for torrent, games (WoW, CS) or they are the same thing?

Not really. Alot of hidden fee inside this deal. If you don't have a line, you got to pay $125. My first bill come for phone is $14+ for don't no what fee. Than come the real first month broadband fee for 512kbps is $81.60 from 1/10/07 - 6/11/07. I m new user.
Anyway the download speed is really fast which I almost can get 100% speed average. Better than the capping TMNUT.

Can get 100% speed?? I hear average is 80-90%. Where is ur area? I wish to apply but my are is not covered, just can use wireless one, cant torrent (only midnite can). Sad. cry.gif
Get the news from a reseller, now is promotion period, for applying Maxis Wired broadband together with new Maxis fixed line need to pay RM75 (fixed line deposit- refundable when terminate) and RM50 (fixed line installation). Maxis waive 12mths access fee (RM25/mth). Then the broadband 512 package is RM68 (normally RM80); 1M package is RM88 (normally RM100). Did u apply both together? If yes, sure u can get the waiver of fixed line access fee RM25. Why cost RM14 for fixed line(Did u use the phone, additional charges if make calls same like TM point)? If u r not using the phone, icon_idea.gif pls call to customer service to clarify it) For ur broadband, 512 is RM68 per month. But since ur bill is from 1/10/07 - 6/11/07 (36 days * RM68/30days then cost RM81.60). blush.gif So i dont think got hidden charges excluding de 5% service and government tax (Broadband do not hv de 5% charges). Wish u enjoy it!! thumbup.gif

The phone usage charge is only 0.64cent. I will see what is exaclty the charge on the second month. I really sastify with the speed that over 75%. The download speed at minight is around 50.2kbs+. Average around 46kbs. Compare TMNUT with I got to use VPN to achive 85% speed. That is max I can get. If TMNUT without VPN, is only 20kbs. Staying in puchong.

sure can.but i've not tested any latency-influenced games like WOW or Counterstrike.

although i played some online games before like Granado Espada, Ragnarok, Tales of Pirates, Rakion..i heard that these Korean games are not that heavily influenced by latency.

hi, i just got my wired maxis connection today and would like to recap the following

1. lock in period is 18 months
2. internal wiring preferred to have been done at your place. Mine was fried, and i had to pay a contractor an additional RM 100 to get it done again.

oh yes i am on the 512 kbps November promotion with line and broadband.

tested on speedtest.net
3. download = 439 kbps
4. upload = 108 kbps
5. ping = 130 ms

hope that helps

256kbps.....30kb
512kbps.....60kb
768kbps.....90kb

dunno the bt speeds, but just updated the following info

tested on speedtest.net today

download = 484kbps
upload = 105kbps

I suppose the whole bandwidth limitation is not put to practice by Maxis. That is comforting to know but reading through this thread, I realise that the connectivity and stability of Maxis Broadband seems to be good in the beginning but slowly, it flucutates and subscribers seems to get random download and upload speed. For those who are experiencing stable connection, I guess its goodnews to you guys but on the other hand, for those are not experience what had been promised by Maxis Broadband, I hope the situation and condition will change or perhaps they will improvise their service for the better.

I'm still having mixed feeling about recommending Maxis Broadband to my aunt, who will be shifting to Pusat Bandar Puchong residential area. I know that the mentioned residential area seems to be under Maxis in terms of phone line service. Anyone who is reside there, care to share your latest experience with Maxis Broadband? Highly appreciate. smile.gif

But i wonder how come they always have disconnect problem at midnight??? I called their support line, they told me SERVER DOWN??? and ask me try tomorrow morning???? Really WTF!!??

Added on January 23, 2008, 10:18 amI just found out if you disconnect in night time, you will never connect back. But it is fine at day time....

Added on January 24, 2008, 9:09 amAfter few days continuously complained to them, i finally can get my connection speed perfectly. I can reach the maximum speed for my emule and bit torrent!!!

Highly appreciate. smile.gif
*
My experience with maxis broadband is good and I get "extra" bandwitdh from my package. Can't complain any. You can ask your aunt, just take the maxis broadband. Highly recommended. Beside that, there is not much choice for Pusat Bandar Puchong residential area. Either streamyx wireless (sux) or maxis wired.

Download speed is good, but the upload speed seems suck. Anyone know the upload speed will affect online game (dota) or not?

I am considering taking up the 1mbps package actually but still confuse between choosing Streamyx or either Maxis Wired BB

I will be staying at Shah Alam, Batu Tiga there.

I am just scare what if their users get more and they suddenly implement the 3GB max usage per month then we will be dead.

2ndly is, can they still use p2p without any tweak/tune in the day time except from 1am-6am.

May I know approximately it will take how long if I suscribe to it ???

their maxis wireless connection also not that good. it was 6month back when i been subscribe to maxis wireless bb but it always get disconnection bcos of low signal mad.gif (the staff told me that my area is under maxis network). then i was quickly change to wired bb and i get average 800kbps speed. the connection is ok for me unless the the technical support really suxx. i have facing disconnection 2 times before (no dsl signal on my modem at all). i called to their customer service few times to complaint before they send my problem to the technical side. Damn, each time i encounter tis problem they need about 5working days to fix it vmad.gif . is it my problem?? now always praying & hope nothing happen to my bb again.

i'm living in pusat bandar puchong so no chance for me to change to other internet provider service. doh.gif

I have just get Maxis Wired. The only problem is I cannot use P2P as eMule and BT. The connection cut off after 1~2 minute and I cannot online at all. No download / upload shows.

Why? I saw some of you can use P2P... need any special setting on the modem?

Using Maxis wired broadband. Zytel modem. Full speed the whole day. No DC (yet... hopefully never). Just received the Planet Wireless router. Took alot of calling to get the router, cause they 'forgot' about the promotion that was promised when I signed up for the 1Mbps service. But now, everything seems fine, the router works like a charm. Set up all security setting and currently two XP pro comps are networked via and sharing the net connection.

Dear LYN Members,

Excuse me I'm kinda using Streamyx for a long time & I just shifted to my bro's house for renovation (old house) so the streamyx also shift to his house. So I was wondering I'm getting a new Internet Broadband and I was wondering is Maxis Wired Broadband really good at the location of Bukit Damansara [ How good is it for download? during morning , afternoon , evening & night ]

P.S.: I'm signing up for either Home 1.0 or Office 1.0 [ By the way which is better? Home 1.0 or Office 1.0? ]

i guess home 1.0 is ok. 1mbps download speed and 384kbps upload speed. u don't need more than 384kbps upload speed right?

speed is stable throughout the day. unlike tmnet, the speed doesn't deteriorates during peak hours (5~7pm, 10pm~12am). torrent is 100% workable too, no ports blocked/ smile.gif

Maxis wired broadband is good especially you're active p2p user. There was one restaurant near Apartment Sutera Indah that offer free internet for customers (now already close ... maybe out of business). They were using Maxis Wired Broadband. I always use it for BT and the download speed is good.

Better use maxis wired rather than maxis wireless. I have horrible experience. My friend in Desa Anggerik is going to apply for Maxis Wired soon.

wait, before that can u point out the 3GB thingy in their fair usage policy please? because AFAIK only the wireless version has that sweat.gif

speed caps at your subscribed speed. it NEVER goes beyond that, unlike streamyx where there are times if u realized you're over the speed cap. as for bandwidth throttling, there's none so far. connection is as stable as ever, heck, when streamyx users faced service interruptions, maxis wired users never felt that XD

but be prepared, their DNS server is a bit sucky, which means sometimes you have to click refresh again for the websites that failed to load.

Thx for replying my question smile.gif This is the website i saw http://maxis.com.my/personal/broadband/termncon.asp

I assume is under wired broadband also because it just says maxis broadband there sweat.gif Hope wired broadband doesn't have this problem.

About the speed cap thingy, so it means if i subscribe for the 512kbs my speed will not go beyond that is it? I'm fine with that, just hope the speed can be consistent for the whole time biggrin.gif

Oh, the DNS server so far i think should be ok for me. But psychict post's saying that we can change the DNS server. How to do that actually?

Thx once again for the reply cloudstrife07 biggrin.gif

Don't border about the 3gb cap. Just get the maxis wired broadband if you want good p2p. Have using for 1 1/2yrs and p2p most of the time. Average 60-90gb permonth with max and stable connection. thumbup.gif

well, it is based on experience dude. im sure s6x has used both maxis wired and wireless, just like me.

maxis wireless was good last 2 years (2007), i can get 100~200kBps download and torrent anytime anyday, and play online games. nowadays it's just crap.

note: using maxis wired at my hom and maxis wbb at rented house.

Hi! I'm considering switching to Maxis' wired broadband service since streamyx's wireless service, which I'm using now, is driving me up the wall with their frustrating technical support. (I couldn't connect to the Internet since last Tuesday, and despite making six phone calls and an email, no one on their end has come to offer a concrete solution as to what's wrong.)

Their current offer looks good: RM88 for their Home 1.0 Mbps package. It's much cheaper and faster than what I have for my current setup. I've also had a good experience with their dial-up service before they'd stopped providing it.

But what's stopping me from heading down to a Maxis centre just yet is the 3GB cap. Reading the posts above seem to suggest that it doesn't matter. I don't download much torrents (just sometimes), but the idea of a cap doesn't sit well with me. It's the constant wondering if I'd hit the limit. tongue.gif

So yes, is the cap a serious issue, and what's the worst that can happen if I do go past it?

(FYI, I'm a heavy surfer, and I tend to download archived files - for Sims - that range from 1MB to 30MB a lot.)

Also, what is the modem brand they'll provide, and will it work well with my existing router, which is a Linksys WRT54G?

Thanks so much!

Hi equustel,

Don't worry about the cap thingy, AFAIK they never impose this rule. I've been downloading lots of TV shows, MP3s and movies using bittorrent and I find no issues with the cap. Btw, I'm using 512kbps package since 2 or 3 months ago and the speed is ok but stable. I plan to upgrade to 1mbps soon. Funny thing about the charges is on the website it is RM68 for the 512 package, but they charge me RM80 and they give 50% discount for the first 2 months. I'll receive my 3rd month bill this month, then only I can find out whether they are charging me RM68 or RM80.

The modem they provided me is Aztech, but can't remember exactly what model it is (not at home now). I'm not sure it will work well with your router or not. I think there shouldn't be any problem. Plan to get a wireless router once I get myself another laptop/netbook. At the moment I'm using only 1 laptop.

I'm currently on Streamyx and staying in Ampang. For some reason, rapidshare download is super slow (less than 5kb/sec) for the past one month. Do you guys think Maxis broadband is a better option? Same price to me anyway.

First of, are u talking about Maxis Wired or Wireless? Since u've mentioned Streamyx, I assume that u're not in Maxis Wired area.

This thread is about Maxis Wired hence u need Maxis fixed line to get it.

cos it sucks, nuff said. i guess they traced my acc to be a heavy downloader, so my average speed is only 7kBps sweat.gif no use complain, their L1 support dunno anything. technical team on the other hand, will surely cover it up and blamed my coverage for it.

What package you take? Very high speed. But you need to test it in DL mode than you know the constant speed. I love maxis wired. 2yrs DL in constant 100Kbps speed. Maxis really give 100% speed. Worth the money every bit. Not like tmnut, best f**king effort.

What package you take? Very high speed. But you need to test it in DL mode than you know the constant speed. I love maxis wired. 2yrs DL in constant 100Kbps speed. Maxis really give 100% speed. Worth the money every bit. Not like tmnut, best f**king effort.

im using my old laptop right now to do some cleaning + updating.

here's the screenshot:

user posted image

now the speed hovers around 200~220kBps.

i'm taking 1Mbps package, which should be around 100kBps download.

u can always use your wireless router to replace Maxis's ADSL modem. just remember to enquire the Internet Connection username and password from the person that installs the modem at your home. modem user and pass is always admin admin. smile.gif
btw, does maxis wired covers your area? iianm, u can't use TM phone line to use maxis wired. your house phone line must be under maxis to use maxis wired smile.gif

well, maxis wired works just like streamyx though, as it's a wired broadband, but the thrill of enjoying it..no other screamyx users can experience it tongue.gif

im not so sure about that. as for my area, Bandar Country Homes, got 2 diff phone line, maxis and TM. ppl who are under maxis apply their wired broadband, while ppl under TM applied streamyx. usually those using screamyx are in the front part of Country Homes.

It is easy to know your area got maxis or tm. If your phoneline is tm, than no maxis line and vise versa. Cause they can't provide both line together for a same place. This is not wireless.

wireless and wired different infrastructure iianm. the teams also different. and as prasys said before, the cost of operating wireless broadband is more expensive than wired, hence the stupid speed and mindless capping limit. smile.gif

1) No cap limit. DL as many as you like.
2) Give you double speed. You take 1M package, you get double speed. No stupid best effort speed.
3) And not just speed. You get constant speed also.

Which broadband co. can give you this package? "

For old place, there is no chance maxis can go in. But for new place/Taman, there is a chance. But very much depend on developer and provider. The developer can choose which to use and maxis ve the main line to that site.

Hi guys, I'm new here, as you can probably tell.

I have a couple of questions, and this seems to be the best place to ask them. First, some basic info. I'm currently using the Maxis Wireless Broadband HDSPA package at RM 138 a month. Based on my personal excruciating experience, I can tell you straight up that Maxis strictly observes its 3GB quota per month. Thus if I frequent P2P sites often, and perhaps download a random torrent or two, I'd end up with a throttled bandwidth about two weeks into any given month. This is extremely frustrating, as you would expect to be able to, at the very least, access the web with decent speeds on a RM 138 package. Needless to say, with the contract period up, I'm looking to ditch the service as soon as possible.

So, on to my questions. As an average P2P and BT user, I need an ISP who doesn't have a paltry 3GB of so called "fair usage" quota. Does Maxis Wired Broadband enforce that very same quota I just referred to? I say this because looking under the Maxis Terms and Conditions for broadband, they state that the same "Fair Usage" policy is effective for their wired service too. And my research on the topic has yielded conflicting results, not enough for me to make any decisions just yet.

Secondly, would it be better if I abandoned ship, so to speak, and apply for a P1 wireless package? Sure it's wireless and will have the same inconsistencies as my current package, but they have a much better fair usage policy, which I doubt I'd be able to exhaust monthly. Again, research in this department has come up with both negative and positive reviews. Perhaps this isn't the best place to be asking this particular question, but I thought I might as well kill two birds with one stone and go for it.

Oh, and besides, the area I'm living in is pretty much confined to either Maxis or P1. If there are any other ISPs servicing this area, I am unaware of them. Thoughts?

As I stated above, the only two ISPs I can possibly consider is either P1 or Maxis. Which implies that my area is covered by both.

Though I suppose weighing the pros and cons of both said ISPs, the stability of a fixed line will outdo the theoretical speed of P1 in my book.

I have to admit, I am now more than a little apprehensive about registering with P1 Wimax. The main reason being I reckon the fast speeds of P1 can only hold true for the time being, seeing as it is a new service with fewer customers than other established broadband providers. Once the numbers start piling up, I suppose P1 will become just like any other wireless service in Malaysia.

For safety I've decided to stick with a physical copper wire instead.

When you said maxis, you ve to make it clear wired or wireless. Cause not many people know maxis ve wired broadband and when you bundle with P1, we will think you talking about wireless. tongue.gif

Last time when pay bill at maxis agent, Show her my house maxis fix line no. And she tell me go telekom pay. biggrin.gif

For P2P and BT, fix line is still the best. Wireless still unreliable. Now somemore with quota permonth. Using for 2yrs+, I only complain once. Cause by line spoil. Other than that smooth only.

I could argue otherwise, but seeing as it is pointless, I'll concede the point.

In any case, I agree that the Maxis sales people are incompetent at best. When applying for the wired broadband, they somehow got my application mixed up and that resulted in me having to go back to their center in Sunway Pyramid to reapply. Though on a lighter note, their sales rep informed me that Maxis wired has no fair usage policy. I.e. The download quota is unlimited. Hooray.

the recent "sucks big time" you're experiencing is that Maxis DNS has problems in getting our requested page, hence my complaints on Maxis DNS and resorting to use openDNS.

a free DNS server hosted at Europe solves all the problems when using a paid DNS (maxis). what a shame.

Not quite yet. I just reapplied yesterday, i.e. Friday evening. Seeing as Monday is a holiday, the soonest I'll be able to get said wired broadband is on Tuesday. Hopefully nothing goes wrong with the application this time around. Though, truth be told, it wouldn't surprise me at all if something did.

well, i hope you'll enjoy the wired broadband WITHOUT MUCH HASSLE laugh.gif

also, keep in mind, if the Service and DSL is up, but u can't go into any page, try obtaining the DNS IP from openDNS.

maxis DNS usually sucks during public holiday where everyone is at home (e.g Merdeka) but not during Festive holiday (e.g Raya, CNY)

Hi guys. I've got another query.

How good is the modem/router supplied by Maxis? Lets say I want to have my router on the ground floor, and my PCs on the first floor? Will it still be able to function efficiently? Or should I consider getting another router or even a new modem+router?

maxis's modem is for one PC only. for additional PCs u have to buy a switch or a wifi router or just replace it with an ADSL wifi router. smile.gif

btw the modem is Aztech DSL 605E.

I thought my belkin got problem.. I bring over my friend house and try using with streamyx..
no problem at all.. doh.gif
so my advice, use back maxis modem and buy another router should good enough
last time I using that modem, on for 24/7 no problem at all thumbup.gif
btw, any router will do..

Thanks for the reply. I happen to be privy to the knowledge that the Belkin modem+router 2 in 1 models are all incompatible with Maxis fixed line solutions, unfortunately. Though as you said, any wireless router should do. And since Belkin is offering a lifetime warranty on their N routers, I think I'll fork out some extra cash and go with that.

Perhaps a change is warranted, then. I'll put it through some stress tests soon. If it disappoints, then I'll start keeping an eye out for modem+router 2 in 1 models that are compatible with Maxis wired broadband.

That doesn't sound promising. So, I'll have to hope that the Aztech router Maxis provides can rough it out well enough for my needs. That way I will only need to acquire a new router.

P.S. I must have said something that the Maxis people didn't find very flattering. I say this because I haven't been able to access their HSDPA service in the past two days. Extremely frustrating having to rely on the much slower EDGE service.

According to the Maxis tech who installed the internet, the only other modem brand that is compatible with Maxis besides Aztech is Zyxel. Don't know how accurate that statement is though.

P.S. Maxis wired trumps its wireless cousin by a mile. Whats more I save 50 bucks per month for a better connection. Damn contract was preventing me from changing sooner.

Are your utorrent networking connection in green or red? If still red, your port forwarding still not right. If green try others port no.

Maxis wired free upgrades - from 256 to 512 & 1.0 to 2.0.

got the memo which hinted immediate and automatic effectiveness of the upgrade from Maxis yesterday. my speed has not been upgraded yet though. called Tech support and as usual they don't know anything about it ....

can anyone who has actually recieved the upgrade confirm/share the necessary procedure to activate the upgrade if there is any such procedure at all?

... p/s feel free to brag about your newly upgraded & uncapped download speed if you have rclxm9.gif

I actually got the printed memo in my mail yesterday from Maxis. Though I don't see anything about any upgrades or new packages on the website. The memo also mentions that existing maxis wired customers can get maxis wireless for RM58 a month vs the regular RM108 with waived activation fee. Of course... I wouldn't pay RM25 a month for maxis wireless...really bad experience there.

and i grew fedup of it.

1. CS will ask to reset modem, and then change to GPRS. why the hell i'm paying for speed up to 640kbps if i can only use GPRS?
2. intermittent connection
3. sometimes no connection at all but at phone got 3G and i can videocall. funny
4. that bukakke-white modem
5. 3GB upload and download. yeah right. you're downloading something from rapidshare, and then connection down. and in the end you had to download AGAIN, which results in higher bandwidth usage.

Damn. My aztech wifi modem just kong. This is the third aztech modem and average one year replace one pcs. Brought last year aug and spoil yesterday. No more warranty. Really suspect this aztech modem got time bomb inside.

Try the linksys wag200g yesterday. But won't work. DSL ok, network ok but internet just won't connect.

Any others wifi modem to suggest for maxis wired? No more aztech for me.

Hmm, I pay RM88 and I just registered last month.

Seems I got lucky, eh? If I had waited just that bit longer I'd be throwing an extra RM12 down the hatch each month.

U all are so lucky.

I am using 1.0home package also, but just get speed like 256 home package, i also pay RM88 every month.

I got email maxis about this problem but they still haven't solve for me, half year already.

i also got receive maxis's letter about their 2.0Mbps free upgraded, but the speed is still same slow and this few day keep cant connect. More look like downgrade for me, not upgrade.

This turtle speed is really "consistent", i test it every day for almost 1 year, and i get the same speed as below every day.

What can i do?

Just got myself a belkin G modem router after the aztech kong. Easy to setup. In few minute, the internet connected. Speed not much different with aztech.
Didn't see any speed upgrade from maxis. Or already upgrade but I don't know since I m running 2x speed since day 1.

May I ask, do you guys switch on your modem router 24hr? Do you ON/OFF frequently or hang very often?

My new belkin modem router hang and need On/OFF everyday. Something wrong liao. Seems like cannot handle the traffic. Last time use aztech, hang only every few day.

Is there any setting need to be set that I don't no?

My mom said to me that the modem frequently hangs than the aztech. i'm seldom at home nowadays so i didn't notice it.

posted at network tech support section about that modem hangs at odd hours. after installing the new firmware posted by one of the forumer, the hang is less frequent.

still, i guess i'm starting to regret purchasing this Belkin, and you confirm my regretness. lifetime warranty doesn't justify the pain we had (e.g. having to reset the modem every now and then)

will be selling this Belkin and get Linksys WRT54GL with custom DD-WRT firmware from MX510 if i got extra monies. selling as "not compatible with Maxis Wired broadband".

most of the DC i saw it's not because of cannot connected, but because the modem cannot search the DNS server sweat.gif

Maxis don't have router. You must specific the brand. It should be the aztech. Maxis is more choosy. Buying the modem router also difficult. rclxub.gif

Puchong. I think you got to be patient. Maybe maxis implement stage by stage. I don't get letter too. But I don't no why I have this double speed.

Since it good, I keep it silence and don't bother to tell maxis.

Added on October 26, 2009, 9:30 amOne more thing I know is, they need to consider the stability after upgrade the speed. Cannot simply upgrade.

I have this experience with streamyx for my office. The tech guys offer to upgrade the speed from 1mb to 1.5mb. But running not stable. After few days call back the guy. Come and check. Said my office line is old and not stable for higher speed. So downgrade back to 1mb.

yup that's what i meant. thanks KKW. smile.gif

connection is more stable then before but still DC, so i called maxis around 5.30pm just now. after doing some followup(which they call and call for 30mins+), they said that they'll just reset the port 1st and if problem still occurs, they will send technician to my home.

and once again, i forgot to take the report number for my own convenience. doh.gif

so far right now ok. i'll monitor the connection for tonight.

well, DC occurs again. i just called them for the complain feedback and said my connection is still unstable, and they said they'll send a technician to my house within 3 to 5 days.

but i said i need the internet urgently to do my work, and the CS requested me to call again tomorrow morning to see if there is any available technician for that day.

Claim another new 1. The belkin service side test it, and said got some problem with the unit.

The new 1 is flush with a new firmware. Will test it with max speed. See any problem or not.

I'll just copy and paste mine (the actual one).
My household got selected for "Fibre Optic BETA Testing" (FTTH) and this is our speed:

Look at the bottom-right, "1.7 MB/S" (Download rate, with down-arrow sign).
Size: 844 MB, ETA: 4 Min 32 Secs @ 48% Completed.

Download 83.67 MB/S.

One of the Maxis representatives called me last Friday, she was informing me about this Maxis wired broadband free upgrade from 1Mb to 2Mb. I thought it's a con, so I asked her to call me back later. Sigh, I should have accepted the offer. Btw, I didn't receive any offer letter like u guys posted earlier.

For this upgrade, do we need to pay extra? is there any T&C ?

If con also, just take the offer. As long as it don't con your money. What a waste. doh.gif
