I've just received a SMS from Maxis, it says "You're selected to enjoy 2 mths FREE Maxis Broadband (1.5/3GB pkg). Show this sms to redeem the offer at your nearest Maxis Centre by 30Nov09. T&C applies. C1181"

Does anyone here receive the same SMS? what is this all about? is it really free at all, which I doubt so.

Yea true.. If let say, they charge u extra for 2mpbs package.. so it worth for every penny

This results in me being able to download 700 mb of files through uTorrent in 8 mins.

I don't have to pay anything cause they WANT us to give constructive feedback.
The service may never be available to anybody cause they've gotta compete with Streamyx (which monopolizes the ISP)>

Crazy, but true.

from what i understood from my last chat with maxis customer service, this is exactly the same as current year end promotion (first 2 months free, 1.5/3 GB quota, FOC USB modem), but you only need to pay RM38 per month after the 2 months FOC ended (versus RM48 from year end promotion)

This evening maxis call and offer to upgrade my MBB from 512k package to 1mb package with same price. But my mbb already running at 1mb speed few yrs liao. So I not sure what speed would they give me? Maybe 2mb speed kua?

And another offer to me is wireless 3.6mb free trial for 1month with wireless modem. No extra charge whatever. I just straight take the offer. Will come to my house this saturday. Will download kao kao for 1month than send it back to them. Ha.....

I need Techno to confirm this

1. Is the IP accessible outside ? i.e are you able to be a host or do you get funny internal IP. You can check if torrent ports are opened

2. Have you tried playing any MMORPGs and stuff , if possible post traceroutes to youtube.com, and wow servers. I'll give you a list , I just want to take a look at it

Yes, I'm able to host servers in Halo Demo: Mac and Halo Trial: PC.
I'm able to seed torrents no problem.

When you say "Maxis Wired BB".
You mean Maxis Fibre Optics (FSBB)?
I started the trial on Saturday, 14th November '09.
It'll end in 3 months time.

So at the mean while, get few pc, run 24hr. Download whatever you can. Don't waste a single bit of band.

Exactly what I'm doing.
Even the technician instructed me to do that.
He said that they (Maxis) are testing the load/peak.

I immediately went to Adobe's website, logged in, and proceeded to download.

This is my download speed (Transfer rate: 6.14 MB/Sec) on the top-left area:


About 2 minutes later, I called him back and told him the download had completed.
When I told him my download speed, I think he stunned co*k...

well, my area recently maxis had just upgraded the speed x2. so i guess fiber isnt going to be anytime soon
