Hi guys. Not sure if you guys have the same situation for the Maxis wired BB. I find my connection for 1Mbps is very erratic. Sometimes connected at d/l speed 382kbps and sometimes (rarely) at 1024kbps. Mostly around 512/544kbps.

I checked this through the ZyXEL (modem provided by Maxis) admin console.

Is this normal?

Your housing area using Maxis fixed line for telephony? Maxis wired BB is exclusively for those areas.

Wow, really? It that case thumbup.gif

but when i think back, there are certain times during the month when my speed are like slow for days and days, it's not that they throttle my connection?  i wanted to say throttle, does cap means the same thing?

I noticed the same recently. You may have the same issue I have. The connected download speed doesn't stay at 1Mbps constantly (I subscribe to the Home 1.0 package). Everytime I switched off/on the Maxis given modem, the connected download speed can be different (usually 5xxkbps but can be lower occasionally). However, the upload speed is constantly connected at 512kbps.

Not sure if anyone else have this problem. I'll check with Maxis BB call centre on this later.

The dl speed is depend on seed/leech. If you want to check, dl the file that big size, many seed over leech. Check for few day continue without off your pc. You will see the speed is constant.

I don't mean on P2P or BT.

The connection speed is from the modem admin screen:

As a result, the max download speed is limited to the current connection as indicated and that includes anything that you do incl BT and P2P. If you switched off/on the modem, the downstream speed changes. Since I subscribe to the 1Mbps, the downstream speed should be 1024kbps, should it not?

How do i check the connected speed leh?
*
Depends on how your network was setup. Normally through the modem admin URL. Start IE and type in 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (usually). You should see a sign-on screen for your modem/router. Key in your ID/password and look out for the system status or some such.

Updates.

Since Jun2015, I upgraded my Maxis wired from 2Mbps to 8MBps download 1Mbps upload. RM128 per month (not yet plus GST).

I stay in Tempua area, Puchong.

In case interested, you can apply for it at the Sunway Pyramid Maxis Centre.

However, ping time with US servers are pretty dismal (~240+ ms)

wah got 8mbps already ah...  speed stable? how come i dint see the promo of 8mbps...

Stable enough. 8.3Mbps download and 0.6Mbps upload speedtest.org with local KL servers.

No active promo from Maxis though. Even some agents at Maxis may not know until you ask them to check availability.

I needed to go twice to Maxis centre to get it done eventually.

I know this is quite late for me to get into this, but my home P1 2mbps contract is going to end soon and I am searching for alternative. I know that I can either go with Maxis ADSL, P1 or YES 4G, all of them with 2mbps speed with unlimited quota. What I want to know is how high the ping usually is? And what is the average speed you all are getting for the package you paid for? because currently using the P1 2mbps package I am only getting about 400-500 kbps on average, so I would love to know if maxis is any better.
Another question I have is if I can use any wireless router with the maxis ADSL package? As far as I know the included modem does not have WiFi support. So can I use any wireless router that I have or do I need to specifically look for router that works with ADSL? And if I use a router with 5Ghz WiFi would it work with the Maxis ADSL 2mbps package?
I know that's a lot of question to answer, so I would really appreciate if any of you can tell me more about this smile.gif

P1 and 4G, if not mistaken, are non-wired solutions. I personally think that they are inferior to the wired versions due to quota and wild fluctuations in bandwidth depending on user saturation.

As for my experience with Maxis wired ADSL, download speeds are quite consistent (>80% e.g. 1.7Mbps for 2Mbps package and 8.4Mbps for 8Mbps for local sites). Not so happy with upload speed (about 0.7Mbps).

Ping time is lagging (>200ms) for US sites.

I am pairing up a Linksys E2000 wifi router with the Zyxel ADSL2+ modem (also with Wifi fundtion but I disable this feature) provided by Maxis.
