QUOTE(WallChecker @ Jul 21 2016, 12:01 AM) I thought your take home nett $1300. Now I know it is expenditure. To the rest, I do agree the basic expenses will cost about $1200, which is about comfortable level. If $900 and below u probably just working machine, eat sleep work and repeat. With minimal outing and misc. expenses. So to save and bring money back home, I think its best to have take home nett $1500 at least, although bargain power is less cause u need compete with other countries e.g. Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, China etc. But u must also able to save and live comfortably, otherwise its better in KL or MY as at least u are local citizen with certain privileges such as hospital, clinic etc (SG medical fees is one of most expensive in the world, aside from US *Unless u are fully covered by company*). If there is no pulling factor or career/personal future plan I don't seems to find it attractive to come and work here. And of course family should be included into consideration as well. Happy to see many people earning decent here I remember , I wrote as take home living expenses", no?

QUOTE(anything98 @ Jul 20 2016, 02:00 PM) Any IT/media company is hiring law grad (Malaysian but graduated from UK)? PS: not intend to practise in SG. You are too ambitious. Be prepared for low pay. Somemore want to come to expensive Singapore Passion for game/IT will not sustain you long in job. My advise to you is earn as much when you are young. After 10 years of practise, you'll accumulate enough then you can do anything you want - open an IT company, develop own app game I met many successful doctors, specialist, researchers who earn well in their career at the same time chase their passion during their free time - become DJ, motor racer, care for strays etc. Opt for this kind of life is better Consult your parents, seniors and elders on your career choices This post has been edited by knwong: Jul 21 2016, 08:48 PM

QUOTE(rookie93 @ Jul 21 2016, 11:09 PM) quick question, do employment pass holders need to contribute to CPF? Only PR's and Citizen need to contribute to CPF or after working for 2 years. But if your employer is willing to pay CPF for you, take the chance. You might have less to use monthly but you get quite a lot of savings tax-free.

Ultimaweapon rookie93 CPF contributions not allowed for foreigners at all, not even voluntarily.
Some companies do encash the employer CPF portion though.

Thats like double Malaysia's EPF

The real problem is the 15% ABSD. Waiting to be a PR saves me 10% right, which could come up to a nice $90k+ or more? That's a LOT of money. Painful. Can almost buy one small flat in KL and collect monthly rent. BTW $20k enough for renovations meh? Things are cheaper here in SG? This post has been edited by madmoz: Jul 22 2016, 09:15 AM
