You really save a lot eh...
loll...
Or do you have a partner to do an expenditure balancing?
*
nope, still single.

saving as much before heading home is the objective when I first step foot in this little red-dot. so working towards low and doable living expenses is the first step to start.

my expenses $1300/mth (all-in) is doable due to location of stay, work, restricted weekend spending in neighbourhood malls only. location is the key word here. for me stay (bk pjg), work (sg kadut) are consider low krass areas, not CDB status, eventually food, transport, dressing, make-up, heels, handbags, hair-do need not be above average. so-so will do thumbsup.gif icon_idea.gif .

only go downtown once a month, with proper budgeting, I can still manage to do 2x per year SEA travel (a way to reward myself) icon_rolleyes.gif

p/s '0' luxury living for the past 6yrs. brows.gif bangwall.gif

It is kinda low to be honest.

At the very least, I'd say
meals = breakfast 3, lunch 5 and dinner 5 so that's 13/day. No drinks with meals. That's 390 for 30 days.
MRT = 1.15 one way, so that's another 69, assuming you travel twice everyday.
Rent is like, what, 550 nowadays?
So that's 1,009 per month already, and we haven't included other stuff like mobile phone bills, groceries, clothing, entertainment, travel home expenses etc etc.

That's a pretty frugal lifestyle as it is already really, and not very enjoyable if you ask me.

I'm sure some of the other fellas here have some useful money saving tips though, which will be very helpful.

my $1300/mth living expenses breakdown :-

weekdays breaky - $4; lunch -$5 & dinner -$5 =$14*22=$308
weekdays transport - provided
weekends feel-good (all-in) - $80*4=$320
room rental/mth - $450
phone/mth - $56
groceries, etc/mth - $160

total $1300

p/note-this is living expenses (comfortably living to me) while, cumulate bigger % on saving/bonus payout, not salary drawn.

weekdays breaky - $4; lunch -$5 & dinner -$5 =$14*22=$308
weekdays transport - walk to office (FOC)
weekends feel-good (all-in) - $100*4=$400
room rental/mth - $400
fibre/mth - $50
phone/mth - $50
groceries, etc/mth - $150
life insu/mth - $150
early critical illness/mth - $150
med insu/mth - $40
saving plan/mth - $250
family/mth - $1000

total $2948 and this is not including other investment commitment in msia...

u r paying $340/mth for protection. I adopt 5:4:1 thumb of rule. meaning a distribution of:-

1)50% - expenses plus all commitments (loans, parenting etc);
2)40% - saving
3)10% - protection (insurance/medical card)

for your case, $340/mth for protection calls for a nett bring home income/salary of $3400/mth. judge for yourself then, are u over-protected? (that's my math, may not apply to others)

I thought your take home nett $1300. Now I know it is expenditure.

To the rest, I do agree the basic expenses will cost about $1200, which is about comfortable level.
If $900 and below u probably just working machine, eat sleep work and repeat. With minimal outing and misc. expenses.
So to save and bring money back home, I think its best to have take home nett $1500 at least, although bargain power is less cause u need compete with other countries e.g. Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, China etc. But u must also able to save and live comfortably, otherwise its better in KL or MY as at least u are local citizen with certain privileges such as hospital, clinic etc (SG medical fees is one of most expensive in the world, aside from US *Unless u are fully covered by company*). If there is no pulling factor or career/personal future plan I don't seems to find it attractive to come and work here. And of course family should be included into consideration as well.

Happy to see many people earning decent here smile.gif

JUST IN: Qualifying salary for Employment Pass applications to be raised from $3,300 to $3,600 from Jan 1, 2017

The change is part of the Manpower Ministry's (MOM) regular updating of the EP qualifying salary to keep pace with rising local wages, maintain the quality of Singapore's foreign workforce and enhance their complementarity to the local workforce, MOM said in a press release on Tuesday (July 26).

The previous minimum EP qualifying salary update was in January 2014, from $3,000 to $3,300. http://str.sg/4SNZ

MOM said it will provide lead time for businesses to make adjustments. Existing EP holders whose passes expire:

Before Jan 1, 2017: Will be able to renew, for a duration of up to three years, based on existing EP criteria.

Between Jan 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017 (both dates inclusive): Will be able to renew, for a duration of one year, based on the existing EP criteria.

July 1, 2017 onwards: Will have to meet the new criteria for renewal, for a duration of up to three years.

Hi guys. I am a mechanical engineering fresh graduate from local u, I received a job offer as QA engineer in sg with basic salary of $2100 and transport allowance $100.
May I know what is the expected salary for fresh grad engineer? Btw I am a girl, is it harder for me to land on an engineer job?
happy.gif  happy.gif

may be ard $2-300 lower than mean for a bolehland mech fresh grad. that depends on d nature of business of ur employer as well, if manufacturing, $2100 as a starter >> ok so so la.

don't let this small $ be ur determining factor here, treat it as a steping stone (tho steep) to start with. if u can prove ur worth, additional $500 upon confirmation shd't be an issue. thumbsup.gif

just skip spa/facial treatment for the 1st-6mths la...aa

Hi all.. Questions, from the application received from jobline, the pass stated was "Type of Pass: EP" , which is stands for "Employment Pass" right? And reading from the MOM page, EP holder "Candidates need to earn at least $3,300 a month and have acceptable qualifications." right? Or for some cases, it doesn't matter?

maybe u miss out the key word somewhere >> GUIDELINE blink.gif

hi guys. i'm getting frustrated at getting no favorable response after sending my resumes to so many companies for a post of architect assistant. i've been jobless for almost 7 months now after finishing my degree in january. working in singapore sounds intimidating but the idea seems more and more attractive by the day. i'm gonna read this thread and do my research and hopefully i won't have to become a disappointment to my family any longer soon.

i suppose the labour market is extremely saturated and competitive right now? i'm not picky and willing to work anything but i bet whatever i apply, thousands of people will apply too and it's a scary thought.  sweat.gif

favourable respond icon_idea.gif ?

if u r a Malaysian RA, u will be head hunted. just talk $$$
