Aspire E15 E5-571G-54MR
or
Pavilion 15-ab240TX

i only play dota 2 and football manager mostly. and watching video. i dont mind acer because i dont have any bad experience with this brand. infact i have one acer laptop still running for almost 8 years without problem.

pls help.
*
pavillion 15 is using intel hd5000 isnt it?? so many series this pavillion. how much is your budget?? hmm.gif if the hp comes with gt940m. and acer is gt840m. its better pick hp. better gpu even not much different. 940 series is brand new 800series

QUOTE(mdnurman @ Jan 1 2016, 10:22 PM)

Pavilion 15-ab240TX comes with gt940m.

the price difference is about rm400. the differences between acer and hp are the gpu, hdd size and warranty which hp comes with 2 years warranty. or maybe brand name.

i dont know if the price difference justify the spec differences tho. hmm.gif

and my budget is about 2.5k btw.
*
yes. 840m and 940. performance is almost da same. just that 940 is re-brand of 840 series + pavillion equip with bigger storage.

price different sometimes influence by warranty.

acer comes with 1 yr warranty? if 500gb is ok for you. if like dat. acer is good choice.
then remaining money, use for external hdd + ram.

sometimes, i dont like hp hotkey laugh.gif

QUOTE(pocalypse @ Jan 2 2016, 07:49 PM)
Looking for a laptop. Any recommendation?

1. Preferred Brand: any brand
2. Budget: 2K to <3K
3. Usage: movies, downloads, online surfing, MS office document/powerpoint, edit PDF, mild photo editing.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14" or 15"
5. Other preference:
a. intel i5 processor, preferably 6th gen.
b. do not require touchscreen
c. do not require 360 flip type
d. preferably with optical drive

Side question: I noticed thus far only Acer and Dell offers i5-6200U processors, do you guys think how long it takes for other brands to start offering i5-6200U?

thanks.
*
Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-572G-57N0 15.6" (i5-6200U, 4GB, 1TB HDD, NV GTX950M, W10H)
Acer Aspire R 14 R5-471T-53ZK 14" (i5-6200U, 4GB, 128GB SSD, Intel, W10H)

other brand to offering skylake i5 maybe depends with the outcome of the market. importing the series too. malaysia market growth seems slow

Not the resolution but apps that sometimes scale horribly that result in microscopic text or the fonts don't scale properly. No such prob with FHD because majority still cater to the latter
*
oh.. yes. it is. the text. cant it be fix by using windows own font re-scale? or even being calibrate the font in some apps still looks horrible? hmm.gif

Morning All~ Can help to suggest? smile.gif
Preferred Brand : Any, but must with less heating problem
Budget : 1.5-2K
Usage : Mainly Gaming -> Dota2, Football Manager and CSGO.
Size : Any size more then 14inch
Preferable : I5 (as currently using I3 not the best for dota2)

Any laptop/notebook.. Old type but can run game smoothly within the budget can. Thanks ya! smile.gif
*
i3 or i5 actually does not matter. gaming need graphic card utilization. i3 or i5 shows different fps due to its integrated graphic card which is different in each processor. thus, its shows different graphic display when playing some games.
can check this notebook

Acer Aspire E5-474G-53QGc 14" Laptop/ Notebook (i5-6200U, 4GB, 1TB, NV 920M, W10H)
Acer Aspire E5-574G-54DV 15.6" Laptop/ Notebook (i5-6200U, 4GB, 1TB, NV 920M, W10H)

both using latest processor

2) Lenovo G4080 80E400G5MJ
*

sorry for didn't elaborate well.
the 3D modelling is not extensive.
is just ACAD and design some softwares.
not going to use it regularly bcoz it is for my part time job.
most of the time will be streaming watching movies.

lenovo is slightly more expensive than the acer but i'm getting i7 for lenovo.
if i7 for acer it would be different price.
but lenovo quality is reliable right?
*
oh, means you can stretch your budget until that. not really. acer is reliable than lenovo actually.. and acer still keep up with its reputation. as past many years, acer now not really the same with old acer. lots of changes.

how much do you think you can stretch ur budget?? how long will you gonna use the ACAD?

U would like to know if AutoCAD takes advantage of multi threading, hyper threading and multiple processors.....

Some components in AutoCAD since release 14 do handle multi threading (for example, the AutoLISP interpreter is a thread). AutoCAD Release 14 itself is not a thread-safe application and not really a multi threaded application. For AutoCAD 2000 and later, releases do have some support for dual processors and hyper threading, but no more than two cores will be utilized. On dual-core processor systems, you will see significant increases in AutoCAD application performance, particularly for graphics and file I/O operations.

If u r using AutoCAD on a multi-processor system (i.e., more than two cores), umay see a slight performance improvement, but only as much as the operating system is taking advantage of the multiple processors.

An ARX application can make full use of multi threading as long as it is the only thread that communicates with AutoCAD . Again, this is because AutoCAD is not thread safe. Falling to do so will cause synchronization problems.

so, dual core still ok for AutoCAD
