Proton Persona SV 1.6 2015 / 2016

Hi everyone, I am looking to buy my first new car and my budget is just RM55K. I am looking for a low maintenance car to travel to work, something that I can afford to pay monthly also. I have been browsing for cars and currently Proton Persona SV 1.6 seems most reasonable for my budget, plus I am looking for a sedan.

My worries, is Persona SV 1.6 a reliable car? Sometimes I see a very good review and sometimes I see a bad review and also very bad reviews about Persona in general. Some shared about their problems with Person within only a few months of purchase, there is also a complain on fuel consumption.

I do not want to get the Persona SV 1.6 and suffer financially. Then it would truly be pointless leaving me to feel cheated.
Please advise and if you have any other cars to recommend within the budget of RM55k please do so. Thank you very much for your time. smile.gif

Pros:
1) Simple car, no fancy electronics. So far haven't heard of anyone complaining about ABS failure or airbags failure for example.
2) Fairly decent fuel consumption for highway drives, averaging around 7L to 8L/100KM.
3) Commendable handling and stability
4) Very reliable engine and gearbox. With the exception of a few cases, I haven't been reading much about engine failures for this car. My car also hasn't broken down so far.

Cons:
1) Bad rear seat design. If you buy SE, M or H-Line then it won't be so bad because it comes with an adjustable headrest.
2) Poor engine performance at low speeds, especially if the car is loaded. This contributes greatly to the high fuel consumption for city driving.
3) Leaky doors. Can be fixed, but is annoying.
4) No front speakers (if I'm not mistaken) for SV. Installing front speakers will most likely introduce another point for water to leak into your car unless the installer knows how to deal with this.

So... for the price you're paying, it's actually quite good. If you do decide to get one, get good tints (like over RM7xx), add the original body-kit and muffler tip, or at least the muffler tip so that the exhaust doesn't look like a penis, and you should be good to go. If you're into driving more aggressively, consider upgrading the tyres and brake pads too.

I'm constantly getting 10L/100km 80% city driving, what could be the problem?

how can a normal car's exhaust manifold crack like this?
you got spray water(or sent to car wash to wash engine) when the engine still hot or not?

Uhm... Nothing. The figure is for highway driving at around the national speed limit. I got an average of 8.4L/100Km during my last trip to Ipoh. Average 110KM/H, 180Km/H for a short section. 140Km/h overtaking. Car had 5 people of average weight.

Edit: 7.5L, not 8.5L

Nevermind it was 8.4L/100KM.

When for proton SC for replacement, they said my car is not a first car to have such problem. Most persona extractor will crack surpirsingly at the same spot and with the same crack. They quoted me RM253.85 for the parts exclude labour and gst.

I sent for engine wash when the temperature of the engine is cold enuf. Not such foolish to do that when hot temperature.

ya, as asked by The_FQ400, how do you aware the exhaust manifold is cracked? do you remove the manifold cover since long time ago? (i guess so as noticed the oxygen sensor still plugged in while cover wasn't there)

I went for a regular EO change and IAFM repair. After all set, the mech said that something wrong with the sound of the engine/exhaust when he rev my car. So he took out the cover, and we laugh..and said "dah sampai masa untuk 4-1 ekzos upgrade (its about time for 4-1 exhaust upgrade)"

Thank you for the kind reply, brother. Yes I do find that the skinny exhaust looks so..cheap. smile.gif Would you recommend the rr mugen bodykit or the R3 bodykit? I will definitely go for a sporty look rather than the normal SV look.

Should I ask the seller to add the accessories before purchase or should I do it myself? I was told that if I do it myself at car accessory shops it would be cheaper.

Currently I would just ask for one of the mentioned bodykits, maybe a nice spoiler, fog lights, better looking steering, muffler tip and sporty rims. Can't think of anything else at the moment. Would it cost a lot?

Over time when I am financially improved, maybe leather seats, better tyres etc.

Thank you for the reply, I am worried about buying 2nd hand cars and lose money facing car problems. But yes 2nd hands are way cheaper.

I'd suggest the original Elegance H-line body kit. Looks the best with the car. I bought the Persona muffler tip directly from Proton for RM70 when they had the 20% discount. New one should be around RM100.

I own the car 10 months now.
The problem i faced along the way was leaking windscreen (solved by SC they put back sealeant)
Plastic rattling just abit ( i fix myself)

other than that no issues. just pass my 20k this month.

overall is a nice car to drive. For fc i get around 8L/100km
my drive is 75% highway 25% city drive.
Persona SV is a heavy car so fuel consumption will be higher compared to like example myvi (different segment, but near to similar price range).

FC also depends on how u step the paddle right?

Nice. This and the Ws2 extreme additive are really worth it. My engine became quite silent below 3k rpm. Above that it reduced a little. The engine also revs quite fast.
