Hi all, recently I been looking at working in Singapore...

May I ask, is SGD6000 considered a lot? To me seems quite few for a senior technical lead role. I'm fetching close to RM9k now. Should I compare dollar to dollar?

Any opinions are welcomed. Thanks! notworthy.gif

That's too low.
For technical roles especially in IT you should get no less than 1:1.

What more a sr. tech lead.

Yupe. But I will enter Singapore only June. Morever, I may refer to HR for any corporate telco package after I joining company, so I may not getting my Sg no. so soon.
*
Yes, correct. U will need valid EP to get corporate package. For Singtel, u must take combo package with contract period to enjoy corporate package. I just went check few hours ago. Recommend u to take tourist simcard when u arrive, for Singtel 5 days (SGD15), 10 days (SGD30), including the day simcard activated. This are based on my real personal experience and just two weeks ago.

Compare dollar to dollar is like compare orange to apple.
A friend of mine, he got SGD8k from a shipping company while he's earning RM12k. I got SGD2.8k while I'm earning RM4.2k. Did you see the ratio?
SG is going into deflation nowadays, the food is cheap, a meal only costs u about SGD3.00 in the hawker centre. But the working environment is stressful, especially for tech support, end users in Sg are more articulate and computer savvy. Good and bad, it depends on how important you perceive money.
By the way, do you mind to share with me what role are u doing? Software dev, tech support, or consult?

The Net Surfer one could argue that both you and your friend were underpaid when you came over (or you took a job with lower responsibilities and therefore lower pay).

I personally came over 5 years ago at 1.07sgd to 1.00myr.

Anyway I recall from some statistics n comparisons done by an old member (seantang) many versions ago, 1:1 holds true for more junior roles, but as you rise in seniority, the sgd figure starts to lag myr figure.

I will move in to Singapore in 1st July 2016. I had contacted with the agent thru whatsapp. The agent saw the message but no reply. I wonder will the agent entertain me if only I called them or the time I enter Singapore (I am still in M'sia now), OR because I mentioned I prefer no agent fees applied, any idea ?

P/S: My budget should be no problem, $500 for single room.
*
you engaged an agent and you said no agent fees applied. mana ada logic bro?
and normally they allow viewing 1 month before, so you should try in 1st June perhaps?

i had been approached by few head hunter, all of them can't offer me anything beyond SGD7k, even for contractual role... i'm really surprised. Further check with some forum there, alot of them said SGD6k is considered alot already... even some of my friend said they are fetching <SGD5k... shocking.gif

Really possible.

If the agent published the ads for the landlord, they will take their commission only from landlord which is half month. But if the agent come to you saying that he/she will now represent you which means to look for a room for you, he/she will look into their database based on your budget then they will go along with other agents then they take from you half month, the other agent take from the landlord. This is almost a loophole used by those agents, you help me I help you mah haha. It's win win for them.

If you nwed sim only plans, just get a personal number from singtel or StarHub.

They have half price on their sim only plans. 10gb unlimited calls for 20 sgd. Well worth it.

One experience cannot be a prejudice at all situation, salary scale different at different level. In tech support, sometimes responsibility doesn't count, skill matters. At salary 2K, both places seems to offer the same. However, when one's salary exceed a certain level (I'm not boasting about how much I earn), companies in that country tend to adjust it. That's business.

Software house tends to be more appreciating their staffs. The only difficulty is handle end user, stress management is quite important for consultant. Perhaps u can do some survey into the company environment, whether it's very politic or management problem, that's important to u. all the best

The individual preference always vary on different indivdual background. Many quickly realize that the lucrative remuneration opportunities also come with certain drawbacks.
