Well that depends on the gym's per entry payment vs monthly membership. Based on my experiences with many gyms, it is never worth it to get membership if only 3 days a week.  Minimum 4 days  biggrin.gif
*
Anytime fitness for example... I think monthly 98. Per entry 30? If you go 3 days a week already cover back in 1 week time biggrin.gif

I don't know other gym coz never ask before haha

To all sifu sifu,

I am looking for some advise on transportation back to Malaysia. Preferably a bus to KL area. I always use FirstCoach but it was for holiday. Now that I am working here, I notice that its impossible to book a ticket especially for Friday after work and Sunday evening.

Can someone please advise me?

Thank you !
*
So far I've tried KKKL (from Larkin), Nice coach (From KL Sentral, with sandwich and android personal entertainment system and blanket etc one more steward onboard one), Eitabina Express (From KL), Causewaylink Express (From Jurong) all quite alright one.

Only one time I straight go Larkin straight get lure to buy one bus. Not very bad but not very well maintained and not very clean. Next time reach Larkin must slow slow walk d don't rush haha

I think I am going to take Causewaylink Express end of this month since its nearer to my work place. Do you know where is the pick up point for Causewaylink? I know it is at IMM Building but unsure where is the exact location.

Go out from the exit from Burger King to the loading bay. The bus counter that you need to exchange your ticket is just above burger king. If really can't find can talk to the uncle also wink.gif

Between, should I start apply another job if the HR never response two day after the face to face interview?
*
You can always apply more jobs then if get more than one only you select among different jobs.

Btw 2 days really kinda short la... Normal interview simply also 1~2 weeks d. Up to 1 month also possible.

Anybody got try DBS Malaysia Remit ?? What is the estimate exchange rate they giving ?? Since now they charging $0 service fee, i figured it could be good using DBS to transfer money rather than carry across custom.
*
You can just go in and do a trial transfer or just click at the "Current Exchange Rate" page when you're in the Malaysia Remit page. I have used the service 3 times. Money received in Maybank on the next working day normally. Just take note DO NOT transfer when it's not working days and after 5pm (can't remember the time). The rate shown is just indicative and it lowers a lot than the "indicative" rate when the transfer is actually done on the next working day. Instead of the rate when shown during the time you do the transfer and the rate at the time they actually process your transfer, the rate became much lower.

The first time I used the service I transferred at night, next day is a working day. Shown indicative rate IINM is around 3.048 but the final amount I got in my bank shows only 3.017.

That's my piece of advice. Other than that it's fine.

QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Nov 28 2015, 01:20 PM)
the good thing about Sg compares to Marehsia is you can get a pretty good deal on IT stuff at the shop in your neighbourhood mall. Shops like Challenger, Courts & Harvey Norman.
*
But the bad thing is everything still more expensive than converted price in Malaysia.

Not really. Last time before Malaysia GST this is true, but after GST it's not so clear cut. Example go Apple Store and check prices, it is almost universally cheaper to buy in SG.
*
I mean things like accessories. Mostly still cheaper in M'sia. Computer prices too. Phone prices too (at least for Samsung all those), off contract Malaysia much cheaper at street price. SG is like everywhere selling at retail price.

Like I said, GST in Malaysia has evened the playing field a LOT. Have you compared lately? Example:

http://www.lelong.com.my/asus-strix-gtx980...6-10-Sale-P.htm rm3,599

Selling in Singapore (bizgram asia) at sgd1,199 i.e. rm3,621

Cheaper in Malaysia? Yes, by 0.6%. Last time before GST it always is significantly cheaper to buy everything in LYP or whatever, but now after GST it's not.
*
Yeah I have not compared lately but earlier this year after GST implementation when I bought my laptop, it's easily 200~300SGD cheaper in M'sia biggrin.gif

Any idea any shop here sell ori local phones at lower than retail prices? That's very normal in M'sia but SG mostly I see selling at retail hmm.gif

To be frank, I rather buy and pay a little bit more like $50 on electronics. The after sales service and service centre is so much better and professional compared to malaysia.
*
For me it depends. Sometimes the price difference is quite much like $200~300 extra then I'll consider buying it from M'sia. Anyway... As of now I have not claimed electronics warranty even once. All went past the warranty period without hiccups. Maybe that's why I have no concern of warranty/after sales issue.

*touch wood*

QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Nov 29 2015, 11:03 PM)
True. Also with 'lemon law' customers have better protection. Reminded me that I actually returned a Belkin electric socket after 2 weeks of purchasing from Courts when I found out it's cheaper ordering from Amazon. No problem even when I told them the truth. Try do it in Marehsia.
*
Seriously? It's Courts return policy not apply to all shops right?

QUOTE(vikingw2k @ Dec 2 2015, 12:26 PM)
Food
about $4-8 like what the other dude had mentioned. When you are free, walk around and you might bump into cheaper alternatives. E.g. some places offering $2.40 for 2 vege 2 meat kinda mixed rice.

Transport
- BUS - Raffles Place to JB - Go to Bugis mrt, walk to Queen Street and board bus CW2. It'll cost you $3.30 to JB CIQ and then to Larkin bus terminal. More info  here.

- BUS - Raffles Place to KL - Take mrt to Lavender or Nicol Highway, walk to Golden Mile Tower, buy bus ticket from Starmart to KL. It'll cost you $30 for weekend and $20 for weekdays. Alternatively you may book online here. Golden Mile to KL is about 6-7 hours.

- FLY - Try browsing TigerAir, Jetstar or Malindo's website and wait for promotion.

Room Rental
- There are 3 types of room. Small aka utility room(1pax), Common Room(2pax) and Master Room(3pax).
- A small room is about $450-500(without aircond). Some landlord might include utilities(electricity and water) in your room rental fee, some you have to pay separately.
- A common room ranged around $600-800.
- Masterroom is about $800-1xxx depending on what they are including.

Mobile phone.
- Mobile phone package ranged between $30-50 monthly for average user(data and calls).

Example of monthly breakdown,

$500 Room Rental, small room 1 pax.
$600 Food - $20 x 30 days.
$  50 Mobile Phone
$  50 Transport (Bus & MRT)
*
$50 not enough for transport I think. Say $1.5 per way to work. One day already $3. 20 days $60 d. Some activities on random day/weekend, another $20 maybe around $80.

$600 for food depends I think. Currently I use about 600 for food + phone + transport + groceries per month. But my work place nearby normally just eat food court la. $3-6 per meal. No need $20 a day.

Haha... Just saying... I was using less than $450 a month on all those thing previously in the first half year when I just came to SG. Since then there's some adjustment in salary and so the increase in expenses haha

QUOTE(deodorant @ Dec 2 2015, 03:53 PM)
Singapore is a lot more competitive than KL is. If you can't make it in KL it's unlikely you will fare any better in SG. Anyways you can always PM your CV to our "BIG FOUR" daikor/daikarche's here and see if your profile is worth their time. Banking/Finance Fiona Chin, Oil & Gas MacKiddo, IT Lester1987, events scitzo.
*
But I think he mean...

Work till die at KL still earn nothing have to ikat perut. Might as well work in SG till die at least still got savings.

I think so haha.

Seriously I'm glad that I chose to work in SG 1.5 years ago. That time, calculate working in KL still got like RM500 savings per month based on estimated salary. Now if work there... Maybe every month negative d. Have to really eat roti everyday.

Hi,

Just wondering I have ald get the job offer. Fill up there EP Pass from my HR.
My HR say will send me the contract asap. But so far have been few days, not yet see her sending me the contract, shld I remind her?
*
Why so eager? If confirm already apply EP nothing much to worry I think. You can ask, just saying you're still waiting for her reply. But I don't think is much of a problem as you'll need time for the EP to process too.

QUOTE(KilJim @ Dec 4 2015, 02:22 PM)
Contract as in employment contract?
You need to sign that before your EP application if i remember correctly
*
I don't think so...

I signed after they apply EP for me. But that time just right before the new EP law enforce. Not sure now.

I only hope I can save $1k-1.5k, looks like possible eh?

Monthly expenses $1k really a bit too extreme la. I only 3k range also have to spend more than 1k each month d.

But < $2k should be easy. Room $800 Food $20 * 30 = $600 Transport $70 (that's what I normally use la) Mobile $60 Grocery $150?

Total also around $1.7k only. Savings $3.3k! But this is not my level la. I still far from that cry.gif

Somemore if you girl hor... Go out makan with guys just let them pay tongue.gif Can save more for shopping biggrin.gif

QUOTE(fruitie @ Dec 19 2015, 12:48 AM)
Wah, you guys just lived up my hope! I was thinking to work in SG for 1 year only can buy my house in KL. Looks like it may happen sooner than I predicted.
Actually in term of room, I don't need a master room. Just a little room will do, for myself. A/C or not doesn't matter, I can live with it so long there is at least a fan.  My only requirement is I must stay alone, cannot share room, share house is fine.

By the way, wanna ask you guys, is it OK if my friends or family members come to my place once a while to stay for few days? Assuming if I have friends from Malaysia or other countries wanna visit me in SG? Will the landlord and housemates allow? In general?
*
If you really earn 5k, I don't think you should squeeze in a small room. Get one with aircond. It really gets quite hot some time in the year.

Whether can bring or not depends on your landlord. If you sublet from another person (that person rent whole unit and sublet it out), most probably they won't mind but if you stay with owner it really depends. In tenancy agreement for sure they state cannot bring any visitor/let anyone stay overnight.

If don't mind fork out extra, go for those one bedroom studio type of place. You can be the king biggrin.gif

QUOTE(ivanlio @ Dec 19 2015, 12:49 AM)

Ok. Thanks. Will do further search.
*
If want near MRT can choose teluk blangah/redhill. Otherwise if you find places along Jalan Bukit Merah, you have to walk quite a distance to the MRT station. Few blocks away biggrin.gif

But I'm taking bus daily no matter where I go because I stay somewhere not near MRT biggrin.gif It's fine for me but not really for everyone else. Your choice wink.gif

3. yes. more frequent. the iris apps. AWESOME.
*
Normal increment in SG range from 2-3% but in M'sia, it's not hard to see 6~7% increment per year basis. Probably to cope with inflation.

Nah inflation is not the same. I'm not in the finance industry but just based on what I "feel". Everytime I on holiday back to M'sia, I can feel that prices are like increasing exponentially. Just take one plate of fried rice. I think the price in KL has probably gone from RM4 to RM6/7 in the last 5 years. In SG probably still the same price at the same store or maybe just $0.5 increase.

IINM, few months in 2015 SG is actually experiencing deflation instead of inflation. biggrin.gif Not sure

If more than 183 days, SG Gov consider you SG resident (not citizen, just resident. Not PR too). Then they give you lower tax rate (resident rate). Otherwise if you stay less than 183 days, they tax you 15%. This is so that you don't suka suka come in and go. Most probably for manpower control.

I think such rule exists in other countries too.
