Well, for one, the R9 270 GPU is already a pretty hot, even on the Sapphire Dual-X. Plus my case was pretty small, the BitFenix Prodigy M. CF with zero slot gap some more. Card temp reached 90+C for bottom, the top card reached 100C even on stock. I only had 2 x 120mm intake bottom, 1 x 120mm CPU AIO out rear, plus 230mm out top. Well I think even with bigger case, the result would have been the same because of the zero slot gap between the cards. Basically the top card is taking in the hot air coming out from the side of the bottom card. So after a while, ditch that, and when for a single R9 290 GPU. Now using Asus GTX 970 Turbo OC SLI. Goes well with the NZXT Phantom white color case.

Very nice white casing and colour matching with your GPU.

Will you be replacing the 2x Asus GTX970 with GTX10XX series?

Don't know yet. I think the price now is overly inflated. I'll wait for both AMD and Nvidia to come out with complete range of competing cards, then I believe the price would rationalize. Then I see how it goes.

If just going by Firestrike result, my current GTX 970 SLI rig setup still above the best (as of today) single GTX 1070 rig by 1,000+ pts. So why would I want to spend RM 2K+ to get roughly the same performance.

I am also having the same thoughts that the price is over inflated at the moment.

I am just interested in VR and 4K at this stage and since there is limited content for both, I can wait.

Definitely not worth it to spend RM2k+ to get roughly the same performance.

Because Firestrike is not a game? Some games just do not work with SLI. If that happens, then the other card is basically a brick. Furthermore that 3.5GB debacle is very real (not so much previously but will surely be sooner or later).

Yeap, that's true. Even some games that I play like FIFA 15 and Killer Instinct does not support SLI. But the major ones support SLI, so that's okay. And you mention that 3.5GB debacle. Well, that's a disappointment too, but not as much a disappointment to me when it turned out that Maxwell lack of support for DX12 Async Compute feature (regardless if it has pre-emption ka, load balance ka, better scheduler ka. Point is, GTX970=No DX12 Async Compute. Period).

So I think I'll wait till the dust on 14/ 16 nm process node GPU settles down, and hopefully the prices too. In my opinion, a fair price for what GTX 1070 brings to the table is around RM 1.7-1.8K. And that won't happen till AMD comes out with a competing card.

Pascal has pre-emption and load-balancing, something like an alternative to DX12 Async Compute. But Pascal does not use DX12 own Async Compute feature (if you look at most benchmarks, very little or no difference for Pascal running DX12 or DX11). Anyway, Async Compute or no, as long as the FPS is better.

Wait for Leadtek GTX 1070. The MSI GTX 1070 is ~ RM2.4k sweat.gif I wonder if we will ever see the light of day (locally) of a non-reference less than RM2k.
