hmmm... well, i was told that... only people who are not good enough will go out of the country and think that they can do better elsewhere... there are still many people who can do really well in malaysia, just that you have to be REALLY REALLY good to do good in malaysia... while average-good people will have to move elsewhere just that they cant compete with those really good ones... and also they think that they are doing better other places mainly because of the exchange rate and while they are still getting the same pay in dollar to dollar...

Transportation, $50 is the min for it as need to travel a lot. It's like staying at Kallang but working at Raffles Place.
Maybe as per your suggestion take bus is lot cheaper.

As I would say monthly expenses has to be really well planned .Else gonna be suffering. Newbie always tend to get bully or low offer pays.

Quick note: I have not read the previous posts.. so not too sure what is going on but when i saw this post.. i think i should write something to reply..

I think it is a lil unfair for you to say such things, although you were told about this. Yes, i am currently working in Spore.. and i resigned from my company and the branch in Spore found out and offered me a job here. No doubt, you have to be "REALLY REALLY good to do good in Msia" but i think, you need to do good just about anywhere you are at. Then, people will notice you (not because you suck it up) and appreciate your work.

About "average people" move elsewhere and can't compete.. i think it is an unfair statement. I think we need to proof ourselves as well in a foreign land. Why should a foreign land hire you if you can't perform? Or not credible? I would think that they have their own local grads or even local manpower available as well? Maybe not sufficient.. but still..

And about the exchange rate. Now.. this.. i have been talking about this issue since i got here (or even before) in Spore. Even my employers here wanted to pay me slightly lesser coz they said 'if you convert it back to RM, it will be so much more'. Do you know what i said to them? I told them straight off that 'unless you're telling me that i can convert to RM and pay for my lodging, travel, makan and other stuff, then yes.. please feel free to pay me that amount'. I think as a matured person working in a foreign land, we tend to look at currency as a dollar to dollar thing. And i do have to admit that the spending power here is higher compared to Msia.. and i shall not get into that coz my reply is getting a wee bit long.

IMHO, i feel that, no matter where you are, you have pros and cons. Am i doing better in Spore? Well, can't really say yet but i can say that i am good at what i do. Otherwise, i will not be where i am now. Have you thought that some people take this as an 'opportunity' to further develop their skills and develop themselves esp working in a foreign land? Not everyone wants to rub it into those who are working in msia's face that they are flashing big money. If you know any, then be mature and smile at them when you know deep down they are just simply being a kid..

Guess that's that from me. I'm not trying to offend anyone but that is just my opinion on this matter.

I'm an E&E engineer wanting to work my way to Sg if I could =) But it seems that SG gov is pouring money into biotech medical stuff now and last time was water treatment research (due to water conflict with Msia) No demand for E&E

Did you ever try to get a job in singapore ? E&E is always has high demand in singapore. Even my brother in law fresh graduate can secure a job in Singapore with 2 offer at same time.

How many millionaires and billionaires do you know personally? Were the people who 'told' you that millionaires and billionaires themselves? If they are, why are they still in Malaysia - since by their logic, only the 'very' good stay in Malaysia and the inferior ones all leave?

But think logically. People coming to Singapore are not saying that they are better than Malaysians in terms of being hard working or smart working. All they are saying that for the same amount of effort and brains they put into their work, Singapore pays more... for various reasons... ranging from availability of higher paying jobs to racial issues to exchange rates.

I meet some people like that as well. Unless they themselves ARE indeed the millionaires, billionaires and corporate high flyers that they speak of (ie. they are examples of those cream of the crop who apparently all stay behind in Malaysia) - I don't entertain them. I have no time to listen to stories about their friend's friend's brother's wife's younger brother who supposedly earns thousands each day. At the end of the day, it's whose wallet is fatter? You want to criticise me for my choices, show me the money!

Wow, this thread getting interesting now, everyone have some points in it.

Well, i would say if the foreign company needs you, it means you have some skills they need where they couldn't get any of Singaporeans.

Some experience to share with, last month i got a Job offer ( i was so excited) and work for 2 weeks turn out i do not like the job so i quit after that. Been scouting around for jobs in Singapore either direct company website/ jobstreet/jobsdb/monster/<no spam links> but they do not offer my position that im interested in ( im not picky just something I want to achieve in near future).

Okie waited for 2 weeks almost give up where so sudden M1 give me a ring for a post. I would like to tell you guys if you want to work in S'pore try frist before you conclude anything.

Once you try to apply the jobs offshore, you get at least certain percentage of getting the job. If you dont try applying the job, you get nothing not a chance to get in S'pore to work.

Anyway off for the serious conversation~ get some relaxing question to ask ~ U guys meeting up this coming week? im staying at west area.~

ohh ya guys can u guys download movies at Singapore? i have problems downloading...if i use bittorent do i get cough by the gov?

wow i say its harder to get a job in sg coz u r looking at International Competition there where else in msia?? Errr errr...btw, the good ones dont stay in msia ler. If the good ones stay in msia, the average dun stand a chance. (sorry dont mean to say the ones staying back here not good....of coz there are good ones but less oredi coz oredi cabut elsewer like sg, i hope u get wat i mean) And the rich ones in msia.....well ya most rich in msia are biznes people....and i do agree that there are more biznes opportunity here in msia compare to sg becoz of its population. (that also depends nowdays..most rich business are "grab" away liaoz loo)

I have been working here for almost 3 years. Boring but pay is much better compared with Malaysia. It's is very safe here too. Even small robbery case will make it to newspaper headlines.

But working pace is much faster. You wont go out with frens or yamcha after work. That's what my frens at Malaysia normally do. But I always go back home after work. Too tired and lazy to go out after work. That's why I feel working environment here is different.

I guess you'll be rich if and when you retire
