QUOTE(Reanne @ Oct 2 2006, 01:27 PM)
About the lab blocks, anyone who has ordered from me will receive it on the day of the gathering. Please confirm with me via PM whether you still want it or not. smile.gif

A warning though, the blocks are not very suitable for dwarves such as robos and campbells, especially the robos, as they prefer seeds due to their size and nature in the wild. Some dwarves are stubborn and rather starve themselves than eat, so when introducing the blocks, make sure they eat it within 2 days. If they do not consume it in 2 days, then it is better if you stick with whatever you were feeding them previously.

These are much more suitable for syrians and winter whites. I have found difficulty feeding the blocks only to robos and campbells. But there are exceptions to this as 5 of my robos refused it, while 3 other robos loved it.

Err.. I'm serious, not joking. Further discussion will chat with you through messenger.

Eek Eek is quite skillful lately. She had learned new ninja skill. Now she is able to climb up a 1.5 feet container with just 1 string of wire(I used the wire to hang the water bottle) sweat.gif Everyday, roughly 5am+ she will jump to my bed and disturb me from sleep. Today she even turned aggressive on me by making noise when I tried to grab her as she don't want to return to her housing sweat.gif Ofcoz, as usual, even she is aggressive, she won't bite me tongue.gif

All the BBs are very chubby now. All had learned how to take mealworms from my hand. Very tame, though a bit timid. Now they are learning how to run in the wheel. hahaha.. very cute to see 3 little hammies run in the wheel laugh.gif

All because of your fault tongue.gif make me so poison with the pudding bb.
Ofcoz I know lah.. pudding is not for adoption. If I were to adopt, I will choose robo long time ago hehehehe...

She ar... super duper naughty. Lucky she didn't get close to my gliders' cage. Or else, I don't know what is the outcome. The main reason why I don't want her to roam around my room is my gliders tend to get aggressive over hamsters. sleep.gif

Mine just bought, quite young. I don't even knw the type. The girl who sold them to me claims they are dwarf hamsters but they look like they dont look dwarfy, lol. Too bad my phone kena stolen, if not i will post some pics and get advice frm u experts. Also, i need to knw the type coz i need to separate them if they are different before they fight to death.

Anyway, the hams tried to bite my friends and i on the day i bought them. and ever since then i didn't really dare to touch. Can anyone teach me how to tame hamsters?

They rarely run on the wheel also. In fact, Dhoosh thinks it's her private bedroom, always climbing up to sleep there. Why?

Rub hands on their wood chips or bedding, get your scent familiarized. smile.gif Time will tame them. As for sleeping in wheels, why not? tongue.gif

DO not ever bath a hamster.... if you do not do carefully, can die... or get terribly sick with cold... better you just get dry powder shampoo for small animals and use on your hamster rather than put him at risk.

u can bath a hamster, but then u need to do it carefully.
for me, i got bath with my 2 hamster.
but then straight after after bath i clean them with dry clean cloth.
then blow them with hair dryer, so that they will get a bit heat.
the hair cooler is blow hot a bit only, then jus wind blow,
if not, u keep on hot blow, they not die of cold instead of hot.

But when hair dryer too hot, can burn a hamster.... so is either die of cold or get burned from hot dryer... so must really do carefully.

wow, how come ur hamsters are so tame? mine, everytime i even touch them, they jump in fright and rush away. why why why? i've never hurt them so this is not some kind of trauma thing. In fact, i stopped touching since the time shmoosh nibbled on me/tried to bite my finger off.

you bought from breeder or petshop? If never tame since young, or the parents of the hamsters are wild or aggressive, then their offspring will also be like that. Normally those from petshop get little human contact, so they are slightly harder to tame than direct from a good breeder.

lol
They had a hamster exhibition not too long ago. From what I heard, the hams there were all in terrible condition and they only had campbells save one miserable hybrid winter white. I bet you bought a campbell. Campbells do tend to bite and are VERY nippy. I have one and she bit me before.

i think they gave me two from different species. they dont look alike at all. their fur is also different. one is like my old ham. the other is like glossy and mice-like. i am going to murder them.

Errmm... Mouse-like? Chinese hamsters are mouse-like, not campbells or winter whites.

Maybe some pictures can allow us to help identify the species.

ya, but my phone got stolen. and my digicam no battery. *sigh* technology is a real pain in the butt. definitely not chinese hams. i've seen pics and mine look nothing like that. campbells are very small? mine are quite big, not robovski (or whatever it is)

Anyhow, you can get mealworms in aquarium shops or regular pet shops. They are not very fat, heard you can get better stock if you breed. wink.gif

Well, his dad loves mealworms but I haven't bought any mealworms while he was around. I think he will eventually take it if you give it to him.

Sluis and Prestige is my recommendation if you can afford it. Very natural, minimal or no perservatives and colouring.

What hamster you are having? Try this method: Put food he likes on the middle of your palm, let it approaches and it'll sniff your fingers then slowly move to the food. Repeat the step until he's familliar with you. It need some times though. That's what i did when taming my hamsters. But i wont guaranteed that your hamsters wont bite you laugh.gif

Yes, feeding mealworms won't turn your hamster aggressive. I hand feed my hamster mealworms. She know which is my finger and which is the mealworm. She won't accidently bite it. The funny thing is, she close her eyes and sniff for the mealworm without biting me tongue.gif

I feed her cricket too. She is still tame. So don't worry.

Further more, if you feed chicken (cooked), your hamster also won't turn aggressive.

Sigh. Guys, you need to know Syrians are the best starter hamsters for first time owners. Not campbells, not Chinese, or Robos even. That way, you eliminate your fear right away with the most gentle breed from the start. smile.gif It's like keeping a Shih Tzu first before keeping a Rottweiler or hyperactive Jack Russell. Sort of only lah. smile.gif

Who's goin to the gathering, can we have people there with cams? happy.gif Capture my new fat puddings in action hehe.

You feed chicken, fish, beef, bones, mealworms, crickets... won't go aggressive, that is just a myth lah. Why follow a myth? If read books, can feed meat and eggs... this gives high protein, makes the fur glossier and grow better quality. Also, it gives hamster the chubbiness.

It is the upbringing and breeding of the hamster. If petshop hamsters, they got high chance of biting since they got bad experience with people or have never been held before.

Animals do not become aggressive from eating any sort of meat.

it might be, but then is all depends on the place where u put your tank.
if indoor then is ok for them...
but then if u put those place which they easy get sunlight one, then it will be not very good...
or else, if u scared then u can put timer fan over your tank there lo,
but then make sure the fan speed not too fast, if not, all bedding flew away...

It all depends on the hamster's upbringing and also the breeding condition. Pet shops get their stock from commercial breeders, have you seen the way they breed? Really terrible wan, maybe 1 cage got 1 to 3 males and about 10 to 20 females... all breed in crowded space and of course the hamsters are aggressive and moody in such a condition.

So always get from a breeder. Really, worth every penny coz it does make a difference. I used to have Syrians from petshop, they bite but after get one from Reanne, so tame I so love the hamster now....

Now I'm breeding winter whites.... well, closest to what I can get lah for WW coz many in Malaysia are so terribly hybrid liao....

Anyway... a nice litter of 5 were born last night, and so fast 2 got booked hahahah.... Well, they are lucky.

hmm.... ok then... mayb i'll buy a few mealworms and let them try.... my hamsters dont seem to have instinct la... when i open the cage, first thing they do is to jump out and wonder around.... when i handfeed them kuaci or other food, they dont even bother.... why is this??...

i realise only female syrian hamster will store up food... male hamsters dont bother if u give them food when they are not hungry... they only look for food when hungry... otherwise, dont bother....

anyone has similar experiece with ur hammies??...

It's like human lah... we eat fish we touch fish, we eat chicken we also can touch chicken mah.... so what are mealworms? Nothing to fear also, if scared than use spoon or forceps lah. Simple as that.

This mealworm geli thing has been repeated SO MANY times... and it is always the same answer.

my mottled is soo so thin lar....feed everyday also like that. i tink he is too hardworking, always go exercise. i hardly see him off the wheel.

besides, it seems that one of my campbell alwayz steal the food of the WW. I juz make a guess coz the campbell is quite fat compared to the WW. Also, i alwayz hear the squiek sound. can i solve this prob by providing a larger cage?

the mottled aquarium only have a wheel and a water bottle. is it too plain for him? what can i add?

You can add old glass cups or some cardboard box to hide...

As for the other problem, yes, a bigger, I would say wider cage would do best loh. And give more food in the feeding bowl.

Well, it depends on you. A wire cage is good coz good ventilation... bu it can be quite dirty with all the shavings flying around. The good thing about wire cages is that you can attach extentions or other plastic stuff... wheels and all sorts...

For tank, less dirty, it won't stress the hamster with cage biting... personally I like tanks heheh... can fill up with more wood shavings and not that messy.

How big? You can make it have some nice levels... get metal racks or cardboard box... quite many people in gerbil forums do such tanks...

Do you live in Bangsar? One of my hams escaped. She's a big silver grey syrian girl.

Eh? Give birth? Ok, that's not my ham. tongue.gif

Well, you'd have to leave her alone where she is housed now and give her shredded tissue paper. Tong sampah box? Can, as long as it's clean. Don't disturb her for 10 to 14 days except for food and water. Give her hard boiled egg white and wheatgerm for added protein. Japanese tofu also can. Everyday you can give her a small portion of fruits and veggies such as apples, bananas, celery, carrots and brocoli (No cabbage, lettuce, citrus fruits or durian). Any of the egg, tofu, fruits and veggie should be removed if not eaten within a day.

You can handle them safely after 18 days, but be sure to hold them close to the ground, not too too high as they tend to be very jumpy.

Buy hamster food as well -- at the pet store hehe tongue.gif Kuaci is not good la if given in large quantities -- it's like junk food to them. They love 'em but it's not good. You're superb for taking this homeless hammie and her newborn pups into your home! rclxms.gif All the best with caring for them.

No idea what hamster it is? Whether it's a robo, a winter white, a campbell or a syrian?

guys, i need help on my hammy. i just realize that he had hairloss
on his tummy at the right side of his body.

he started to stop playing wheel about 4/3 month ago. after playing
he kept scratching his belly, after a while he never play it anymore.
i don't see anything wrong with him. he's active as usual, xcept he don't
play wheel. and at first, the hair lost was just a little and i thought
it was a lump bitten by ant.

i've check with hamsterific illness guide. both mange & mites
caused by mites. i don't see any mites on him.
and i had another hamster in that cage but he wasnt infected at all.

i'm not sure if its ringworm or just the usual hairloss.. what should i do ?

cod-liver oil - scot imulsion can?
yeast tablet is on what ?

You also found that site? Actually, small animals means dogs and cats also included. The vets that open clinics are stated as small animals clinics but not all knows how to treat real small animals. It is only a term for domestic household pets....

Not really. Provided you supply enough protein for the mother. If the mother is too stress, she might eat her own baby to get enough protein for the rest of the baby. Some mother hamster is stressful with human interaction after it give birth. So touching it will also cause her to eat her baby too.

If diet is controlling well, and don't disturb her nursing her baby. The mother won't cannibalize it's own baby at 99%.

Coconut hut can get from Pets Family or Pet Safari or Natural Aquatic. A lot of pet stores have it la. It's about RM7-9 depending on where you get it from. My hamsters don't like the coconut huts -- it's also pretty useless for them since it's supposed to be elevated from the ground and hamsters are not into climbing much unless there's ladders, etc. I don't know -- mine's just not into using the coconut huts. tongue.gif I even tried placing it low on the ground for them and they still won't use it.

If you need to fatten them up, then it's okay to feed that much. I feed mine now with only 6 mealworms a day. I also feed my hammies with steamed chicken, turkey ham, eggs for added protein. And they love apple and carrots and small pieces of bread.

Out of curiosity, where did you get the information that apples and carrots cannot be fed to dwarf hammies? You can give apples and carrots twice a week. Dwarf hamsters can be allowed proportionately more vegetable matter than syrian hamsters. Apple, carrot, and even pear are better than vegetables (like cucumber) which have a high moisture content. Avoid feeding lettuce though.

Oh and with regards to the mealworms, well, my dwarf hammies each of them take one mealworm a day la -- sometimes half -- sometimes more. So altogether, I dish out about 6 mealworms a day for them all. Hehe. Up to you la -- it's best that they eat their mixture of seeds, etc. So the rest of these are just treats and extras. Bread also, I give twice a week only. Animal protein is important for them -- so you can give a bit of mealworms, crickets as well, and dog or cat biscuits. Just a bit. Sunflower seeds -- give sparingly, it's like junk food to them.

With regards to turkey ham and chicken -- you can offer these as treats as well. Not to be given as their main source of diet la. So once a week or twice a week just as well.

You can feed fruits everyday.... well, just small bits. If you only feed an apple or carrots as a staple diet, sure it will get diarheaa and diabetes... but small bits a day is healthy for dwarf hamsters. I feed mine all small bits of apples and carrots everyday. As long a bit is ok.

Choy Sum is good, bak choy also can but it has more water content that choy sum so feed little of that lah.

Hehe no la -- the key is moderation. Like I said, their main diet is their hamster mix -- the seeds, etc. The rest are good for them as added protein and nutrients. But as with everything in this world, too much of a good thing can turn out to be a very bad thing.

And yeah, careful with the watery products, can cause diarrhea.

You can research on the internet tongue.gif -- I haven't read an article that says apples and carrots cannot be fed. Also, they like bananas too. Give them once a week la. Just a tiny chunk for them to much on. Some like it -- some don't. Mine enjoy it as a treat.

In small amounts, they also appreciate mango, grape, and strawberry. Again, too much of a good thing is icky for them. Just remember that hehe.

Well, these are all precautions taken by hammie owners -- once again, the key is moderation. The only proven stuff that are dangerous for hammies to eat are human sweets, like chocolate or candy, salty food, garlic, onions, pickles, raw kidney beans, raw potatoes, etc.

I've been feeding my hammies with this diet for years and I've had hamsters for more than 6 years. They all live long lives. Just go with your gut instincts and also, research more so you yourself will be more confident with the diet that you want to feed them with.

All the best!

Wheatgerm oil for birds? I think it should be ok. Cod liver oil is also ok to feed but I don't suggest feeding from a bottle. Use the capsule type because it's neater and easier to give. Just pop the capsule with a clean needle and squeeze onto the mix in the bowl before feeding. Only put the oil into the bowl of mix when you're about the feed. For the wheatgerm oil, just put a few drops into the mix like the cod liver oil. The most you can use is only once a week.

About the cod liver oil, don't buy the cheap ones because some brands do not purify them properly and may contain harmful chemicals. To be on the safe side, use distilled cod liver oil.

Robo and a spot? The spotted, does it look like the 1st page hamsters? Robos should be housed with only their own kind, Robos... never mix different dwarf hamsters with Robos... robos are the smallest of hamsters, mixing them with other hamster breeds can be... well, dangerous... a campbell can kill a dwarf... a Syrian can easily kill any dwarf.

You hamsters got long tail or not? That picture is a chinese hamster, it has a longer tail, compare to most hamsters, their tails damn short, like 1cm while chinese hamsters got longer tails and a more mousy look.

Take pics of your hamsters lah.

Hamsters cannot be spayed or nuetered, too small and malaysian vets no experience on doing it on small animals like hamsters, damn risky hahah... Good that you bought 1 males thumbup.gif less breeding thumbup.gif

I feed mine according to their bowls, empty then I refill everyday. Remember to have good water supply for them.

The kuaci used for birds and hamsters do not contain salt, only the ones that we eat do have salt. But don't give too much as it's very fatty.

Do your spot hamsters bite? They're probably mottled campbells.

The seller told me that they r only around 2 months old. Whenever i put my finger in the cage, they do nibble, but mayb they're still small, it does'nt hurt. When i put them on my palm, they seldom nibs, but once a while they will. What they always do is they poo on my hand..... doh.gif

I'll try to post some pics later, so that the pros can identify my hammies......

Mottled is a colour pattern...

This is a normal mottled...

A russian campbell is the normal type of dwarf sold... quite rare to find Chinese hamsters especially in pasar malam... coz the only place with chinese hamsters is Pets Wonderland petshops... and it's a rare sight now...

The other types of dwarfs are russian winter whites and roborovskis.

When i take them out and hand feed them, they do not eat, when i put them back in the cage, and hand feed them again, they will rush to the food and tend to bite it off from my hand, some times even try to ite my finger......hai...
THink need to spend more time with them though.

Hamsters acting like that is normal. They just feel insecure... not all hamsters will take food from your hand. They still see your hand as a something like a big monster trying to grab them...

Slowly tame them. Hand feed them in their cage first, let them get to know that your hand supplies food, soon they will become tamer and won't poo on your hand so much.

hehe, actually the hamster may not be as fat as it looks. One thing that I had noticed with the hamsters that I used to have, is that they're mainly just fur. Another thing about hamsters is that they can really curl up into a round ball, which makes them look even fatter smile.gif

Hahaha.. hmm.. that kinda brings to mind this sapphire winter white that I used to have. Pity I dont have any pics, been years already. Jumped down from my table once before I could managed to catch hold of her. Now, you'll think that a hamster is small enough not to make any sound when it hits the floor right? Well, this one had a *PLOP* sound when it hit the floor, kinda like a sack of fat hitting something solid tongue.gif

The male is normal winter white and the female is pearl winter white. Some female is more dominant over territory. So atk is very common. Unfortunately, you have a dominant female. I suggest you to separate them if the female dislike the male. It would be better to have them separate rather than doing nothing.

I also separated my female and male. Both enjoy their solitary life and I have no worry on uncontrollable breeding.

I have to share this news with you all. I have two hammies and one was very aggressive before this but now...rclxms.gif So so so tame rclxms.gif Well, sometimes he bites me a lil but at least he's better then before.sweat.gif I let him play outside of the cage and carry him around .Sometimes,he gets scared because i can feel his heart beats so fast. Im so happy because i thought this hamy will be aggressive forever but he's tamer now. smile.gif He likes to stand on two feet on my palm look around and sit down and stand on two feet again..haizz..so cute.
However,i still cant make my two hammies become friend. They surely fight after sniffing each other . shakehead.gif

lol
Charmers aren't they? biggrin.gif

I know my kitchen is messy, but got lots of stuff, hard to keep neat. To me it's considered neat already, compared to last time. sweat.gif

The SH blonde girl? Lol

Good to know Booze is being good. Next time remember to post pics of her ya. smile.gif

I got a new white rat today!!! She's so cute! And so tame! I suggest if you want a pet rat you can let me know because my friend's rats don't bite, but they are sold as feeders though. Unusually tame for feeders.

Wonder what to name her?

Sorry for OOT biggrin.gif But cannot tahan, she's so adorable. biggrin.gif

You sure the tail? It could be the butt.... coz it happened to my friend, blood came out of the butt... died from internal bleeding caused by infection inside.

Then he hurt himself. Just was the tail with some saline water or weak solution of dethol... then if possible, dry the tail. if the cut is bad, just apply a thin layer of antibiotic cream.

Hmmm perhaps it's time to change to a new cage? Tell me your budget, I'll scout or recommend some for you. smile.gif

"Nippon" paint is not that recommended. Might be toxic for the little rodents. ^^

This is why quite a number of keepers and breeders use tanks and storage boxes... last long and no need worry about rust. Cheaper also.

Just got 4 WWs from a lelonger. he said he had no intention to breed the ww, it was all accidently and all four are from same litter - born Sept 23, 2006. What surprise me is that all of them are hand tame, have yet to byte my fingers biggrin.gif Just put my hand & all will come to me

But pity my 1 year plus robo - lonely, couldn't find partner (same sex) & I'm thinking of finding her a new owner & home cry.gif

I would say it's nonsense that he didnt intentionally breed them. When you put a male and female ham together in one cage, they will breed sooner or later whether you like it or not. Go scold your seller.

About your robo, if you put it up for adoption, I'm sure there are many who are willing to give it a good home. smile.gif

Got that thought too... tats why I took all four. At 1st, thought of buying 2, but since buy 2 free 1, tats gonna leave another 1 (of same litter of 4) with the seller. Felt pity over the 1 left, I offered the seller a price for all 4 - These healthy and tame four WWs comprise of 1 female & 3 males in which I currently house them separately by dividing my 2 feet aquarium

Wahh... long time no see you here... welcome back.

The colour now nice... but it will fade and become browner... well, this happens to the puddings here coz hybrids and not very good breeding gene...

Midvalley? Better not buy from there. The only puddings they have are the ones imported from Holland that cost RM58 each. Frankly speaking, they don't look good and healthy like the one you see in the few previous posts. Their colour and markings are inconsistent as well.

The stock in Pet Safari doesn't look good, last they did but they may have switched supplier or just ordered too many and became too overcrowded. Use the other female I have la, but I think have to wait till muffin is bigger, later my fat girl bully her.

Pudding is the hybrid of many generations from the mix breeding of winter white and russian campbell.... but please do not try this mix breeding yourself.... it can go very wrong.... and later something can become wrong.

Where and which petstore? Coz that price is like the lowest ever.... too low, spoil market.

Pets wonderland hamsters are expensive coz they are imported from Holland... so you cannot compare local hamsters and imported hamsters.

Red eye, you got dwarf of syrian? If Syrian, never have 1 pair or they can fight very badly.

Sunflower seeds are okay but you should give hams a good mix of food, like seeds, grains, and the occasional fruity treats. They like honeydew, apples, pears, whatever that's not citrus-based like oranges and lemons. ;_;

RM5.50? Wo...still got 50cents? Hahahahaaa...
Actually, the price of RM5.00/per hamster is normal here..meaning in UPM because we have the veterinary faculty. Actually the Hamster is for study purpose and not for pets..but i dont know if now they still selling the hammy for that price or not..

All Pets lover dun be mad aaaa....it is for studying purpose especially in sex study (sperm) and the hammy will be killed after the study. blush.gif

And one more thing, they only selling in bulk

RM5 is normal if bought in bulk.... but single hamster RM5 kinda too cheap....

IN other states I know the price very cheap.... Penang RM8 only... but KL, rarely go below RM8 loh.... this kinda cheap price would make more people get hamsters but also without proper knowledge, they may never realize that a hamster can breed non stop. This is why for pet, it shouldn't be priced so cheap. I bet some would even buy for their snakes to makan...

It's a mottled campbell. It's not mix breed, you can't really tell for campbells but their genetics is already a mess in malaysia. So it's a mottled campbell. Period.

It is normal for hamsters to fight..... the myth about dwarf hamsters must be kept in pairs or they will die from loneliness is just rubbish I would say.... If both are siblings, then ok, they won't fight but introducing adults or young adults, sure fight for territory. Better you just keep them seperated, both would like it that way.

Many people keep dwarfs alone these days coz it is much safer.

Hold them 5 minutes a day, so they won't lose their tameness... later it will just ruin your trust with the hamsters as they have short memories, they won't remember you after 1 week also.

Two of my pearl WW females have a love hate relationship. They fight and eek-eeked and roll all over the bedding/hay and after that, they sleep together and clean each other up. What's the deal?doh.gif lol.

females take faster to broaden while males take much longer. If its a male and it's very big, then it's probably 8 months to a year.

Go handle it la, you'll know then. Whether it's tame or not cannot really tell from their age. Only can say they can be skittish when young.

So, would you like a hamster that you can play with or a hamster that looks nice but bites?

It's all up to you, but if your hams are over 10 months of age, it's better to adopt them off than sell.

Heheheh... Reanne don't remember... his hamsters are those that h put in the container in the drawer last time...

Anyway, z3r0717, just keep one. I would also suggest you to keep the chinese dwarf. Campbells, bad breeding in Malaysia cause them to become aggressive... Chinese Dwarf not so bad so it is a better choice than a campbell.

Yes, leave her alone. I let my female live alone when she was pregnant and have pups. She won't be lonely, coz she will have the pups and sometimes males don't do anything but mate back with the female straight after birth... so yes, better seperate.

pine wood shaving is harmful for bedding for hammies rite, whatever the brands may be? so, any recommendation of other type of bedding to use & where can I get them? Read somewhere that they used cat litters as hamster's bedding, izit ok? Some even mix pine woodshavings with cat litter for bedding... izit ok too?
I'd used living world pine soft wood shavings for 3 years now, and now realised its harmful and feelin' guilty over my pets sweat.gif

Yes, pine is harmful. If a hamster living on pine dies, and you disect the body, you can find the lungs and liver already deformed from disease.

You can use Chipsi Super. Or Chipsi Extra.... another good bedding can be used is corn cob bedding.

Cat litter... not all cat litter is good... coz some hammies may consume the litter coz mistaken for minerals... anyway, get hold of Woody Pet. It is a good bedding for hamsters.

i'm using delikate soft wood shavings... although its did not stated of pine or what, I assumed its pine as same color & look with other brand using pine shaving. Ministry of Pets forumers recommended Breeder's choice cat litter as bedding since it's made of recycle paper & organic, but expensive for 2l = RM21.90. Other cat litter from japan just cost RM15.00 for 5l sweat.gif but not sure can use or not.

Came across woody pet... can use meh? The hammies won't eat them? will choose if it is safe coz cheaper than breeder's choice cat litter - thanxs

Woody pet is safe to use. It is a good bedding lah.... Ya, Delikate never state what wood... same with many other types of bedding. Yes, Breeder's Choice is good but I don't think available in many shops. Stick to Woody Pet lah, hamster won't eat it. I use Woody Pet for my Tortoise.

You can feed dog kibble. Go and ask for sample packets and feed loh. You can feed cooked chicken and fish also. If possible, a few mealworms a day.

Well, not really. Hamsters enjoy the comfy feeling of hay as nesting material and chewing material... also, hamsters won't poke themselves.

there is "dawai" (what is called) within the cage... it is set of cage, provided since i bought it... but i think the space between one to one is too big, it make difficult to robos to run away in the cage... once i put off the bar, but is not siut, the robos difficult to drink becoz the bottom is too dig... then, i put it back and i cover the bar with paper... thats why its look like that...

Better to not buy cages with bar bottoms for any animal. Painful for their feet. But if you're willing to go through the extra trouble with the newspaper then oklor.

PLease read the hamster caresheet links on the 1st page since you are new to hamsters. Don't get spoon fed here. Learn yourself the basic needs of a hamster first.

Dog pellet is also called Kibble and biscuit. Yes, it is good for hamsters. Not too oily for them. It gives them protein and minerals.

Plain paper won't absorb the pee. PUt some tissue, at least it can absorb the pee.

Bowl is not so good. SOme hamsters can drown in water bowl while some become wet, catch cold and fall sick. In the mean time, you watch them drink. You place the bowl of water and jaga them. Once they finish drinking then you take out the bowl. Do this twice a day.

If it is an ulcer, need vet. If it is cataract... then no need go Vet loh, coz they won't do operation on such a small creature,.... and it would cost a lot of $$$...

You can treat it yourself, you can go pharmacy and buy artificial tears eye drop. Don't get eyemo... get other brands...

Well, how old are the babies?

If they're below 10 days then better not. If they're around 10 to 13 days, then it's ok. But make sure you don't touch them directly. Use the old nesting tissue to pick them up and place them back gently, together with the tissue. Another way is to use a metal spoon and rub it against the bedding, then scoop the babies with some bedding. Remember to place some of the old bedding under the babies on the new bedding after you're done.

Honestly, there is no point breeding unless there is a super rare colour or breed dying out. Just keep the hams as pets and don't hassle yourself with a full to the brim tank. Enjoy them as it is. It's the quality not quantity that counts. wink.gif

Yah, it comes with both stand, the bearing(I dunno what u call the middle thing) and a suction cup if you use for tanks...

Sorry, I got no pic since very old and I threw the box away. Anyway, if you near Taman Megah's Pet Family, drop by there, many cheap wheels.

Yah, that's the one... I didn't see these wheels in Midvalley... also long time never go 1U ahahah... but it is a cheap and good wheel.

But I think the size too small for Syrian hamster, even they put picture of Syrian for the yellow wheel, but it feels cramp.

I bought the large 8.5 inch comfort wheel... expensive but my hamster loves it!

The ingredients are quite limited, actually. Might not be enough. If I were you I'd stick to the more trusted brands. Plus, your hamster can't complain if the food is bad right? Since it's the only food available in the cage, no choice but to eat lor.

PS: To all those people who say 'Well, since my ham/gerb/rat/mouse/dog etc eats it without a problem, the food must be ok la.' I hear this statement A LOT. But when I look at their animals, they look very scrawny or undernourished. Some people also think it's normal for them to look like that.

Your pet can't complain. It's like feeding your ravenous dog trusty or pedigree. They will eat what you give them simply because there is no other choice for them. Some pets even try to eat stuff that's not edible due to lack of nutrition.

Vary their diet and rotate brands or change something in it once in awhile. It would improve the quality of life of your pet and they will receive a much more rounded and sound nutrition.

lol
Pet's Wonderland doesn't stock Prestige. Got Sluis, but old stock.

Pet Safari has both.

It's normal for them to pick and choose. You'll have to leave it there for a few days for them to eat at least 2/3 of the food.

Today went to Petaling Street... Petsmore got supply for Sluis and Prestige.... and the other shop down the road got many cheap wheels. Also some new stock of Syrian hamsters... their winter whites and robos look sickly but Syrians active and better looking since stock just arrived.

Edit:

Here's my new hamster's pics...

Can put. As long as there're no sharp edges. But I see no point putting a mirror for hamsters, birds maybe, not hamsters.

Mirrors, whatever for? ^^ Better place wood chews and toys for em. Anyone needs a pink hide toy for hams? Not using it, maybe available for trade since my Pearls prefer the coconut husks.

One week cucumber, the next apple, then carrot, then pear. Should be safe. Veg is a little wet for me, so I prefer those dry treats like carrots. smile.gif
