yeah per meal... wow and my friends are saying i am under feeding my cats .. lol
its about 2 scoops from the chinese soup spoons (img link below)
http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/1721324...Ramen-White.jpg

and yes i have heard that cats significantly gains weight after spaying/neutering.

my cats are also very afraid of going out the house. but when they are at home they chase each other all over the house. its hilarious to watch really.
*
My serving size is perhaps one big, full scoop based on the spoon image shown.
Twice a day, morning and night. Most of the time it's just enough, sometimes there's just a little leftover.

My house is my cat's playground really, she jumps over the couch and runs into every room and out, that's why we clip her nails once every 3 weeks or so laugh.gif

8 spoons? Holy crap that seems like a lot
But I think it strongly depends on the food

I feed the stray cats under my block too, but I feed them Vitapet
http://www.savebigbig.com/wp-content/uploa...od-seafood1.jpg

I give them quite a lot of food, then again they're outdoor cats, and un-neutered/ spayed so I believe that makes a difference.

Wow this is per meal? Significantly more than the amount I feed my little one.
This is close to 2 meals already. I feed her twice a day, just over half the amount you give every meal.

I guess it's perhaps due to all the free-feeding then laugh.gif
Then again, I did spay her about 4-5 months back - not sure if this contributes in any way though.

I tried bringing her for a cat walk (using a leash), but all she does is sits close next to me, and crawl around. She's always been a scared kitty, ever since I've known her. She's only used to my family and I. That's why most of her exercise is within the house lol
*
they now knows how to ask for a cat walk, it took a few times for them to get used (to wear the harness and being tied to a leash) to it but still I'll have to carry them across the gate as they refused walk out from the gate when the harness is on. However if any of us left the gate open for a longer time (e.g. 1 mins), they will run out (without harness on). mad.gif
don't understand how's the kitty logic going. shakehead.gif

Haha I've only taken my kitty twice for a walk
Both times she sat next to me and just crawled around a little, I can sense she's scared.

so u've just confirm my suspicion. i did suspect my cat gaining weight (slightly) after changing to eureka. on the flipside, their furs are as beautiful and shiny as ever.
let me know  how britcare sterile works for you and where to get them. a friend of mine is feeding smarthearts and more than double the portion i give my cats and her cats seems to be in a a very fit state.  hmm.gif
*
i'm not sure if Eureka causing them to gain weight hmm.gif as i spayed them and they were super skinny like African kids when i adopted them. you can check if the protein content is on the higher side.now they are like normal healthy kitten (one is abit fat, 7mth at 4.2kg) and i have to say that their fur is soft, nice and thick. no issue for me to comb them everyday.

i'll keep you updated for the Britcare after 2 mths. The seller also feeding it to her own cats hence shld be good. price is higher than Eureka but if my cats eat well & healthy, i'll save the $$ in the long run from Vet visits and sickness.
Smarthearts no good la, maybe look fit cos not as nutritious as the good brands.

try to carry them with the harness & leash on. when they are comfortable, they'll ask to be put down on the floor and they roam.
to be exact, more like they walk me as they choose where to go and explore. i'll hv to guide them not to jump into the drain or go under the car. the leash is more like to keep them around me in the event they freak out and starts running aimlessly. still learning how to avoid cars and loud motorbikes

First of all, SPAYING AND NEUTERING DOES NOT MAKE YOUR CAT GAIN WEIGHT.

It is the sedentary lifestyle and overfeeding that causes weight gain. Go to 1:38 in the video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTmfFTAUiAE

Secondly, by not spaying/neutering your animals, you are contributing to the stray population. Please be responsible and do so.

I'm using smartshift cat litter.
The wood type and crystal not suitable to fill in right ?

I have been using sand, after cat job done, then got leg print on the floor.

Decide to stock up many before the GST.

actually different sources does mention that cats do gain weight easily after neutering/spaying
http://pets.thenest.com/neutering-cat-make...-fat-11320.html

QUOTE
When it comes to keeping a healthy weight, neutered cats have it a lot harder than their fully intact counterparts, according to the Feline Advisory Bureau. This is because the surgery slows down a cat's metabolism by roughly 20 percent. Because of this slowdown, less sustenance is necessary for maintaining a cat's body mass. This means that a cat post-neutering can eat the exact same amount of food as before, but still gain a noticeable amount of weight.

don't get me wrong though. i will spay/neuter my cat no matter what. even tho my cat doesnt leave my condo, i don't want my cat doing her mating call in the middle of the night when her 1st heat comes... lol

plus neutering/spaying removes health risk involving reproduction organs.

and weight problems that comes after neutering/spaying can be handled like u said through proper dieting & exercise.

Yup. I've tried both in my smartsift.
Both failed to do the job.
Cause the basis of smartsift is the clumping mechanism of the sand.

I placed floormat in front of the smartsift, 3 of them side by side to cater the footprint. biggrin.gif

Oh, does your cat has any problem using the smartsift with the door closed?
All my 3 cats refuse to use it when the door is closed. sweat.gif

I'm wondering am I feeding my cat too much? I feed him twice a day with this cup. Used to be full cup, now I reduce to maybe 4/5 of the cup. At night I'll feed him 2 tea spoon of tuna as well.

I feed all my cats with non-grain-free cat food. None of my cats become fat or chubby. There are a couple of cats that look slightly chubby but it's because they have bigger body than the other cats. For example, see picture below. Both kittens are same age. Imagine what the bigger kitten look like now. It actually look like little chubby but not fat or overweight.

Attached Image

Neutered/spayed cat can get fat & overweight but it doesn't mean they necessarily will get fat & overweight. Like spunkberry said, it's all about lifestyle & how much you feed your cat. BTW, I feed my cat twice a day & I make sure I didn't over feed them. I also don't like give them treats between meals.

I just want to say, regardless what brand or what kind of food you feed your cat, fat & overweight cat is bad, as much as malnutrition is bad to cat.

I don't agree with the bold part. Malnutrition cat won't look fit. They would look sick. biggrin.gif

Yes, smartsift only suitable for clumping style litter. Even non-clumping sand litter also not suitable because it's enclosed space & this will make the non-clumping litter expired way earlier than it should be.

Some of my cats also don't want to use it when the door closed but I probably didn't left the door closed long enough for these cats to learn. The ones that have no problem using it even the door closed because I leave the door closed. BTW, I have two smartsift. That's why there's one have door closed & the other one opened. Anyway, I opened the door on both smartsift anyway because the place where I put the smartsift allow the cat to jump to the smartsift (from high place like cabinet). The door parts kinda flimsy, I don't want it to break, so I opened the doors. It also good idea to keep the door open too because my naughty cat like to pull & bite & tear the black filter thing on top of the smartsift. tongue.gif The clumping litter I use very good in controlling odour anyway.

i do not wish to argue cos every cat is different. just like human. some drink water also can gain weight, some no matter how much they eat, they nvr gain weight. biggrin.gif

It's easy. If your cat is not overweight, then your cat is not overfeed. Cat like to eat a little at a time but frequently. Basically, they eat, they play, they poop, they eat, they sleep, they eat, they play, they eat..... biggrin.gif

Wet food is different story of course. Cats will clean out the plate in just one sitting. biggrin.gif

It's hot season anyway. Cats can be more sensitive than us human. They will drink more. Everyday I usually need to refill one drinking bowl twice a day but currently I need to refill two bowls twice a day (evening & early morning).

2 - 3 days? That's quick. Too quick. Worst case scenario should be a week. How many cats share the litter box? Maybe adding another litter box, you know, splitting the load.
