A buddy of mine gave me a white maine coon kitten today, aged 2 month +. Very playful and active.

Any recommendations on dry and wet food for that breed? And suggestions how to rotate wet and dry.

I just bought RC Kitten 36 small pack just for starter (recommendations from the pet shop), but my friend said RC is no good sad.gif. But i search online RC also have Babycat 34, are those any difference?

And for this maine coon am thinking giving him the best food he could get. At the pet store they carried brand like orijen, evo, purina pro plan, rc, iams, blackwood.
*
Well ive been using RC for a while now, cat happy and healthy, just choose the maincoone type, once i changed to RC fit or somethng my cat developed scab, most likely the problem with your cat is not the food la, its just getting used to the new environment. Its better that you ask the past owner what they have been feeding her to make the transition easier.

There will be endless discussion on what is better..its neverending..same like baby milk, baby carrier.

What is fact is that RC is a well respected brand eaten by cats all over the world.

My grandmother fed her cats with IAMS n rotate with wet food twice a month, she had more then half a dozen last time...oldest was 17 years, all the cat she took cared lived at least a decade..she bath and cleans them weekly.

Most important to cats is rotation of food, cleanliness eg drinking water, poo etc, and stimulation. Feeding them raw stuff is definitely a plus...tried it with my cat...gave her a bloody salmon..she looked at it with a "meh" face. T_T

Do all that consistently and keeping your cat indoor..your cat will live long and prosper. If you plan on letting your cat outdoors, vaccine is required yearly.

Most people dont have problem with expensive food in the 1st/2nd year..but consistent loving after that is what makes the difference.

QUOTE(Emanyshie @ Feb 24 2015, 09:42 AM)
hi guys, so here is my story...
i have adopted two kitties..one is quite like tabby + white coloured male and the other one is calico female. both are domestics. i hv had them since July last year. I cudnt get their age right...when i got them both, the previous owner who took care of them said they are almost 5 mths. but i can see the calico female is quite petite..somewhat over 3-4mths...then the male tabby is quite big for his age. i did spayed the male tabby after a month or so...so he is getting quite chubby, meanwhile the calico female is still in 'prestine' condition (not yet spay) and petite even she's getting older. so recently, both of them got some fleas on their body which i noticed last friday, it was horrible to see those bloody bugs running around their furs. i was quite shocked because i did left them in their cage when im away from home since 28th January then came back around 8th February and let my family fend them of course..but none of them realised that my fur babies got them fleas. even my dad's domestic long hair black cat got it, nobody aware of that. i brought them for ivomex shot except the DLH black cat, because i only have budgets for my two cats. before that, i did shampoo-ed them with flea & tick shampoo but not that effective. so the next day, i went to the petshop to buy those flea collars and some advantage spot on for fleas. i dunno if those things are enough to battle the fleas..im quite panicked a bit but calmed down eventually when i try to look for those bloody bugs in their furs...i didnt saw them running around but quite a few did fell on the bed and some on the blanket. i hope they are gone for good...

so did anyone have this kind of situation with the cats?? pls share your experiences and opinions...thank you
*
Frontline and diatomaceous earth have worked fairly well for me

For DE you need to be more consistent, every 3/4days continuosly for 3 months

Frontline easier 1 dose for 1 month.works extremely well..but you know la chemical toxic in any way is never good

Thanks! Really a female. Haha.
I thought so lucky found a Male Calico.

Any tips on reducing cat's poo poo smell?
My cats poopoo (sometimes fart) are really stinky. Not sure is it due to the dry food they eat.
*
Use crystal litter sand brand Cat IT, other brands are not as good
People who come in my house will always comment how there's no cat smell.
Feeding my cat RC mainecoon interval with fussy cat wet food

hah i've used cat-it before as well and can confirm the products effectiveness when it comes to covering the smell
it is also the most expensive compared to most cat litter brands. and because its non clumping, you'll need to empty the box and clean it at least once a week.

i am currently trying tidycats at the moment which seems alright (not as effective as cat-it crystal litter) but almost half the price. more budget friendly and affordable to change the sands every 3-5 days.
good thing my 2 kittens are not fussy tho. i've changed like 4 type/brand of litter already
*
Whichever suit you best..i tend to use one CAT IT bag (5kg) for one month...around rm 15 a month for me.
One issue is that due to it being crystal, you cant totally scoop the pee and poo out.
Its a hygiene concern...but i control this by having mats around the litter box and another mat before my cat leaves her space..so i kept the spreading of the crystal at a minimal.

Spraying water is generally frowned upon these days.

A cat that is 8 years or older is considered a senior cat.

8 years is senior eh?

Well im off the opinion is the least jahat way to diciplined your cat

QUOTE(suejielun @ Mar 8 2015, 08:14 PM)
im new to this world.it is not almost a year i can finally hold a cat but even before i can feed them only putting the food on the floor.well i got 2 cats from my uncle..the first cat that my family get ,gave birth to 2 kiitens and the other was adopted by us last august.the problem is one of the kittens was diagnosed to have sporo fungal.the kitten name was Lulu

FEBRUARY:I went to government veterinar to treat her ears.the wound on her ear keep getting smaller .

SUNDAY MARCH 1:  LULU was seem to be inactive and keep hiding around the corner and vomitting,I brought her to government vet because i cant afford because i am fresh graduates who still looking for a job..but officer said that LULU got feline but they didnt know which one .i was confused as they didnt state which feline virus LULU was diagnosed.but they saw the bruise hidden under her fur on her upper back and said let delay the bruise for later treatment.so as they prescribe antibiotic and antibody but LULU seems to be still weak and have some bad odour on her wound.one week passed the fur on bump kept fall off and the wound seems to be worsen so i thought it is one after effect of the antibiotics.

8 march yesterday:in the afternoon i saw LULU back got worsen so i quickly when to nearest private vet, the doctor diagnosed LULU and said she got sporo ,she asked me to let LULU with her (forever).my mother seems to agree with her as my parents still have 4 children who still in school, college and university, and they cant afford the sporo treatment no more.

i cried and begged my mom to let me take care of LULU as i still available right now.from what i have read the treatment may cost a lot.my mom only gave me two weeks to see how LULU was progressing and it has cost rm175 already and my mom said she can only afford it for two weeks.im desperate right now.

the vet said it is going to cost more after this and my mother said  she dont any money to spend on this treatment anymore.should i gave up?this is the first time i ever love a cat and this happen.and i also staying with my grandparents.i afraid it will affect other cat and my family member

i read some of cats who survived sporo but it is going to cost money.Help

"Because of its potential for infection in humans, your cat may be hospitalized for the initial treatment. In many situations, outpatient therapy may be a consideration. Several antifungal drugs are available for treatment of this infection. Your veterinarian will choose the type that is best suited to your cat. The treatment generally takes some time; at least several weeks after the initial treatment before the patient is considered recovered. While your cat is being treated, you will need to protect yourself from infection. Gloves and face masks are suggested, but your veterinarian will instruct you on the best methods for minimizing risk of transmission"
Please take necessary precaution!!!

My best advice, learn to let go, cats are not human, your money has more importance towards your livelihood, same with your moms, she made the right choice.
Last time my family cat was diagnosed with leukemia, My aunt spent close to 5k to try to keep her alive in a hospital.
I find this stupid, Cats are not human, They are family, but not human. You just need to learn to let go when its not viable anymore.

Truthfully if my cat got a disease that i know after some research can be fully cured..i would even swipe 10k of my card.
But if i dont have the money, or the disease is like cancer or leukimia, i would let go.
Your money has more importance to your livelihood. This is my humble advice.

There are several high end cat hotels in KL, one ran by some expat, she even has a cert...but need to book way in advance..scallywag in kampung tunku...wife wanted to send my cat there...it was fully booked. in the end sent the cat to a local petshop...she seemed okay from the experience..all fur intact..but the owner is abit "funny" crazy cat guy.. This is astakatz near bandar tun hussein onn.

There are some bad reviews about that guy especially..but not on the treatment of the cats when they are boarded there.

actually different sources does mention that cats do gain weight easily after neutering/spaying
http://pets.thenest.com/neutering-cat-make...-fat-11320.html
don't get me wrong though. i will spay/neuter my cat no matter what. even tho my cat doesnt leave my condo, i don't want my cat doing her mating call in the middle of the night when her 1st heat comes... lol

plus neutering/spaying removes health risk involving reproduction organs.

and weight problems that comes after neutering/spaying can be handled like u said through proper dieting & exercise.
*
Well it helps if you have a cat that has an extremely fussy tummy.
No matter how i feed my cat, she is still thin.

She can even mogok makan T_T
I saw my auntie threw a biscuit on the floow for her cat...the cat duly obliged lol...i dont think my cat would even flinch.
Last time i bought a tuna and steamed it for her..she gave me the not impressed look and waltz away

Guys just out of curiosity, what wet food do you feed your little ones?
I give her Sheba or Fancy Feast Royale.
I noticed that Sheba has got a lot of gel (I believe this is starch), but not as much as Royale. Nowadays I remove all the gel and starchy content before feeding her.

What about you guys? Any particular brands? Or home made meals are the best? Boiled chicken/ fish?

Thanks.
*
Hmm my cat loves those gel and starchy things lol
sometimes she would just lick that and leave the fish meat -__-

Ive preferred fussy cats for a long time now...it seems to have alot of fish meat in it.

That's why I'm looking for alternatives, besides the fact that the starch/ gel is about 30% of the content doh.gif

You know the best is actually...buy a steamer...buy those cheap ikan at pasar...the ikan bilis type..or whatever ikan for cheap.

10 times better then any can food..steaming is important to get rid of bacteria and stuff la.

I would do this...but damn cat too fussy

Hi Guys,

My 4 year old cat fell from the 5th floor of my apartment, was in the process of moving house, my "lovely" maid left all the room doors open, and 2 windows open when she left the house after cleaning. Shes not new, been with me for 2 years, i always makes sure my house is safe for my cat before i leave.

Nearly had a nervous breakdown, circled the apartment a few times, found her laying down under a car, i was swearing constantly in my mind.

Sent her to clinic nearby; then proceeded to UPM the next day. UPM facility is very impressive, i can say the vet here are very experience in handling serious cases. They have ICU for cats, dogs and birds.

In summary my cat got; pneumothorax due to punctured lung & abdominal hernia (surgery). Clinic (xray, meds) cost me RM200+ UPM hospital (warded for 5 nights, surgery) cost me about rm 1.5k. For the procedures that they did to my cat, the price was super cheap, because at the clinic the were quoting 1k just for the surgery, i cant imagine the price if i went to Jalan Ipoh Vet Hospital.

Love you cats guys, make sure windows are closed. My cat is recovering..T_T, shes eating, walking, pooing normally now, tho i can see that shes still in pain.
If accident happens skip the clinic go to gov vet hospital in upm or kl.

Haven't bough a comb yet for her, any good ones below rm30 or so?
Giving her RC kitten food and Brit care for kitten as well
And Burp wet food once a week.
*
Regarding comb, i prefer to use the plastic blunt ones, very cheap under rm5, can find it at mr diy.
I also have the furminator that cost Rm50+ but i find it too harsh on my cat,
she likes the plastic ones better, does not trap the fur as good but i mainly use it to massage my cat and keep her fur looking "brushed".
