I notice when i use OpenDNS I cannot load Genesis tv show listing. Once I go back to Google DNS its ok. But if I wait for like 5-6 hours OpenDNS ok again. I suspect somehow that OpenDNS is slow to update their DNS. I will try to install a firewall tonight to check out exactly what URL is Genesis requesting.

Bro have you compared or used other media players, would be interested to know how the performance compare to other devices? Does RPi support HD Audio (DTS-HDMA, DD HD etc) also how is the performance while playback of Bluray ISO or BDMV folder over LAN?
This is the only device i have never tested or used and would be happy to buy if it supports the above.

Rpi out-of-the-box output audio jack is only good for headphone sound quality. If you want audiophile sound you need to get sound card add-on board like HiFiBerry, IQAudio or Wolfson. But all 3 brands give you only 2 channel. I have not come across brands with more channels. Me planning to buy HiFiBerry....PM me for bulk purchase.

you do know that multichannel PCM, dolby digital ac3, dts, dts-hd, dolby truehd could all be bitstreamed through the hdmi interface, don't you?

I have not setup rPi2 yet... but based on my previous rPi, I'll be using TV remove to navigate through the keyboard in the XBMC.

great to have a thread like this. thumbup.gif

i hv only had xbmc for a couple of months - on android and pc.

as a new user, one thing i find frustrating about xbmc is unless you have prior knowledge, you do not know which addon is in which zip file or repo! i had reinstalled xbmc on a couple of ocassions and struggled to find what is where. of course, now i know better...

yes, xbmchub and mashup are best, covers most addons.
and yes too, 1 channel, icefilms and mashup are the best there is.
i also use istream and iwo (i watch online) which are found in xunity's "the one" repo.
within mashup, my fav is i-live for live tv stations (not on by default, need to click it on within mashup settings).

for links, i find movreel most reliable.

about chinese addons (now, i can't remember if they are found in superrepo??), i had tried some of them like pps, kankan, youku - all seem pretty useless, dun work. azdrama works but selection is very limited. is this the same experience for others?

for chinese stuff, i stay away from xbmc, rely on the android's native app which is quite good.

i understand... so do other experienced users.

xbmc/kodi need quite a bit of knowledge, patience and effort to get it to work.

there is no one stop center for a complete how to manual - becos the nature of the app - open, limitless possibilities, ever changing.

i can only suggest 2 things:
.. re-read the first few pages of this thread - a lot of info, tips and impt steps to learn
.. google n watch a few you-tube videos on "how to".

short of doing that, u can buy some box pre-installed with kodi and the most popular apps and addons by the seller.

Hi. There is one thing i always don't understand about KODI/XBMC.

Sometimes the movies says has "Local Subtitles is Available" when i try to download subtitles from the various provider. However, i never see the local subtitles by default and i don't know how to activate/select the local subtitle instead of downloading external subtitles.

How do i do that?

Thanks.

local subs mean the video has subs embedded, it will come out auto. the message saying "local subs available" is default once it detects the embedded sub.

videos w/o embedded subs, u choose from opensubtitles or subscene, etc. - those addons that u hv installed n activated.

1) It could be subtitles that's only displayed when there's foreign language in the movie

2) You can enable subs in the audio option (Menu-> Audio during playback). Better yet you can assign keys to toggle/enable subs on your keyboard/remote instead of going thru the menus.

You'll need to edit your keymap file (keyboard.xml)

You can check out the default command control for your keyboard here

http://kodi.wiki/view/Keyboard_controls#De...yboard_controls

And you can modify them based on the functions (action id) that you want from here

http://kodi.wiki/view/Keymap
