this is typical of tm/unifi. everything depends on who u speak to, in consistencies all the time.
i went thru this kind of exercise a few months ago, had to call 5 times to get something sorted out. they will log the report, send u emial and then silence, you call again, someone else says somethign diff, log another report, silence again, repeat...
having been thru it, having read all that in the unifi/broadband threads, having spoken to several of my friends on unifi, this is what i found. but, again, may not apply to all, depends who in unifi u speak to, who u negotiate with. call it segmentation or discrimination, watever. tm/unifi style, no doubt. ..
.. some upgraders get rm179 with megapack; some rm169 w/o pack; worst case, some pay rm199, w/o pack.
Interesting...will call again when i am ready to push for upgrade, will try to get a discount for the megapack.
.. yes, no new equipment supplied; but dun worry about modem - as long as u r unifi customer, u get lifetime warranty. if confirm kaput, report to get foc replacement within 48 hrs.
Did not know about the lifetime warranty for the modem...shite...thought if that kaput will have to fork out myself. Guess i can upgrade in piece right now.
.. router - all new routers after signing contract get 1 yr warranty only. the router they supply is not very good. after upgrade, u r much better off buying and changing to a new router rm200 will get u one with stronger wifi, more stable ethernet, max the potential. rm300 gets u a dual 2.4/5ghz band which is useful for highrise congested with wifi users, less so for houses.
Lol...the very first day i got my unifi, I've already swapped out the router...to the TPLINK. Now I have 2 1043ND that is connected to each other to expand my wifi coverage in my home... cancel to reapply to get new cheap modem and new hypptv box is not a good idea - if someone is waiting for a port, u gvie up, u may not get it back, so wait....
I was just going through the threads in lyn...apparently ppl complaining about port full. Better hold on to my precious port.
wifi - i played with samba/smb and nfs too. never got to nfs as there was no need in the end.
for older media players, smb works fine for flac, mp4, mkv up to 720p dts. can't handle 1080p dts.
older androids, smb works up to 1080p dts. can't handle iso/bdmv/dtshdma - those 30-50gb folders.
my latest android 4.4, everything works on samba.
having said the above, i am not sure if the wireless router made a diff as i changed router recently.
Good to know...I have been using NFS for a few years now. Since my old media players then doesn't cut it to stream 20GB++ movies. Been loving it since.
Will try out SMB again since androids are 4.4 now. And now lollipop...blazingly fast? lol.
