Rough estimate puts it around RM1xx.. Can be purchased from online stores like Aliexpress and Lazada.. Do check around locally first.. Good to patronize local sellers and plus, it'll get delivered faster and no possibility of dealing with customs..  smile.gif
Yup, using the Neo U1.. Unfortunately, I can't comment too much about its wireless capabilities as mine's only a few feet away from the router and cabled.. I can say based on light reading, that it's got a decent external antenna, supports wireless AC tech. To address the network lag, I would advise you focus on improving the home LAN (wifi) connection.. Especially if still on stock TM's router.

i do not do gaming... can ask seller too.

and comments from other users.
for kodi, the best i found was Superbox build.
been using it for 3 months now.
the only drawback is it is BIG, takes up to 2GB of the memory! biggrin.gif
in english, kodi offer some decent links.
check kodi thread, look for adrian super tv, avengers, adrian sports, sportsdevil addons - there, u find skysports, tsn, bein, etc.
very hard to explain kodi, u need to read and try...

china channels - get addons that have cctv5 and cctv5+ - these are the best sports live tv channels.

While still a decent Wireless N router... Depending on the required coverage area, perhaps its optimal to upgrade to one that supports the newer standard & provides better WiFi coverage? Of course, doing so, particularly for a 4Mbps line, appears like overkill... I must point out that you'll still benefit from improved LAN performance.

Such behavior is quite normal.. For best results, aim for subtitles with the exact file names as the media being played or ones Kodi specifically tags "SYNC".. Example:
Media: blabla.1080p.plumberly.mkv
Sub: blabla.1080p.plumberly.srt
Sometimes, it doesn't have to be exact and still work.. This applies mostly to Blu-ray releases or a specific group's release, cuz the media timing is the same across all files, no matter how they are named. I.e blabla.720p.plumberly.srt or blaskbla.plumberly.srt.... Etc..
*
Don't know whether it is coincident, now the sub title seems to be in sync after switching over to q5 PRO.

QUOTE(lyc1982 @ Jul 27 2016, 04:28 PM)
alternatively..use kodi to play the movies...
kodi seldom has sync issues with subs...
*
Don't understand. I am using kodi to watch movies.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jul 27 2016, 04:33 PM)
are u referring to usb playback or kodi streams?

for kodi streams, u must choose the matching subs from the subs provider(s).

for details on kodi, can ask at kodi thread - many experts there! biggrin.gif

kodi stream.

Thanks all.

Morning guys,

Hi all, I've come across the model by q-box powered by that amlogic s905 2/16GB model

Basically I'm planning to use it for movies, live sports and maybe drama series occasionally. Other than that maybe some YouTube and FB for my wife

From what I've surveyed, it's around RM260 +/-

It should be good enough for my needs?

Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif

streamyx is known to have stability issues, unlike unifi which is a lot more stable.

routers... the popular brands are asus and tplink. however, u need to be sure if a model works with streamyx. best to check in this section:

generally, can say yes, will be ok.

but it depends on a few factors - your incoming stability, your router and the type/links of the "HD" video streams, if any other device in use.
ethernet connection will surely help.

But here Unifi just started but my area still not yet...yes I'm in network and broadband thread too last time they help me to disable the ipv6..I agree streamyx got stability issue but while streaming its like hang and the WiFi signal very bad that's the reason looking for new modem.. once Unifi available in my area will subscribe to it but hope in future Unifi wont start quota all

Hey...first things first.. inform wifey that FB does not belong on the big screen... Later you kena and sit on the couch screaming inside, while she scrolls FB feeds.. tongue.gif

Next.. If referring to the box in the image below.. At that price point, its quite decent and should accommodate your needs. Of course provided you don't run into unforeseeable circumstances in the future like installing an IPTV app that refuses to cooperate with this hardware, due to a lock-down or whatever.. In which case, oh well! console.gif

Hmm, as advised... Things do get tricky when Streamyx is involved, you'd get better answers in the Network and Broadband thread.

Tip: When it comes to wireless routers or modems or combos, etc... The rule of thumb is to purchase the best performing router within your budget. This is generally decided by price. For example, as the RRP cost of say an Asus router goes up, the better performance it produces (theoretically). IMO, I wouldn't settle for anything less performing/featured than the Asus RT-AC55UHP.

For router and modem recommendations... Please see above.

Shopping from Aliexpress is relatively straightforward. Stick to the following basics and you should be good.
*Create a free account.
*Search for item you are interested to purchase.
*Take ratings and reviews into account.. Narrow down seller options to a preferred seller.
*Add to cart, select shipping option.. Preferably something express... I.E. Fedex/DHL
*Make payment... Order gets processed and shipped.
*Delivery.. Profit!!

A standalone Modem does a specific job, same as a standalone Router does its job too. They are designed to carry out dedicated tasks. The best router paired with a crappy Modem will still result in crappy Internet. Same applies to the best Modem being paired with a crappy Router. That's where Modem-Router combos come in.. Try to balance both worlds in one device.. Now, since you are all too familiar with the Networks and Broadband section.... You get what needs to be done next! biggrin.gif

hey guys, not to hijack the thread, but just wanna tumpang and ask a quick question related to androids...

i know android boxes, i have android tv and use an android phone.

using an ipadmini but planning to buy a samsung galaxy tab s2 9.7.

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_s2_9_7-7438.php

anyone using this device?

will this tablet do (almost) everything a box does?

how similar is an android tablet to an android box?

the ui/navigation more similar to android phone than android box, i suppose?

what will it NOT do compared to a typical android box?

any samsung special bonus feature or drawback to be aware of?

just wanna get a few quick comments... thanks.

I would like to do a survey here after trying a new TV box recently. Noted a significant difference in the speeds, startup, shutdown etc.

Seeing a faster response is indeed comforting. Ha. So would like to compile some data and share later. This may also determine which TV box I get later! Ha.

Appreciate your inputs as below:

TV box model:

Cold startup time (from power on to seeing the internet connection and time on the screen):
AA=

Shutdown time (from pressing shutdown button on remote to seeing the red light on the TV box):
BB=

KODI aspects

Startup time (from clicking on the Kodi icon to seeing the full root menu on the screen (this may be skin dependant)):
CC=

Shutdown time (from clicking on the QUIT/STOP button on the screen to getting out of Kodi):
DD=

Many thanks!

P/S Just state the following in your reply
TV box model =
AA=
BB=
CC=
DD=
