u haven't got it right:

on the right android box and sufficient broadband speed, u can have many other great apps incl:

tvapp.so - a free iptv with many great channels incl discovery, national geo, fox sports, bbc - all in hd.
*** installed that on my PC but cannot play. Impressed with their channels in the list. Will re-download and re-install and see.

popcorn time - video on demand for thousands of eng movies, a variety of file size and quality to select.
*** will try this out later.

assorted chinese apps - tonnes of chinese stuff, mainly in mandarin
kissanime app - all the japanese anime u want, eng subbed.
youtube app - the usual youtube to watch anything available.

astro... if u must have wahlaitoi or supersports, yes, stick to it.
the rest of the channels can be found elsewhere somehow.
i dumped astro 1.5 yrs ago, saved so much money and get to watch lots more!

could not agree more. from super pack 1, i downgraded to basic (for unforeseen emergency case). have been using android box for more than a month. why?

1. screw asstro for la liga, serie a and ligue 1 issue. not even offering customers to reduce price
2. hundreds of channels from iptv apps, at minimal price. not mentioning live channels in kodi too

3. i can watch whichever tv shows that i want, whenever i want (fear the walking dead is not even on asstro)
4. save me the time to download shows/movies which i have been doing for years

Yup... Noticed it these past few days. Tweak firewall here and there, check if being blocked by Antivirus etc.. Nope. It's dead. Hope it's only temporary.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.. 100% Legal.. Genesis, 1 Channel, etc.. NOT!! As for documentary "Rise of the Hackers", bro, if that worries you then you really don't want to know what can be done & very easily today. See that smartphone on the table across you or in your pocket.. That my friend is the ultimate spying device.. It has cameras, mics, fingerprint scanners, GPS, phone metadata, etc.. And they don't even have to force people to buy/use it.. While we are at it, have you seen Edward Snowden's documentary, "Citizenfour"?

Subjective... We here try to avoid such ranking.. Read the thread.. Multiple devices have been mentioned. Make an educated decision based off posts, reviews & videos showing performance.. Then there's budget.. What's good for me might suck badly for you.. There's no perfect (Rolls-Royce) box.. Please Read!!

That's unusual, what TV box? Does the box have an SD/USB update method which was mistakenly activated? Try disabling auto update if possible, or freeze the OTA app with Titanium Backup.

OTA (Over The Air) or better known as FOTA (Firmware Over The Air).. Basically means the device is able to receive & apply firmware updates wirelessly.. Think like updating a Windows PC from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, updates are downloaded & run.. Core system files are replaced, etc.

Connecting mobile to TV box... Could be through mirroring, DLNA, casting, etc.

Titanium Backup is an app available in the Play Store. It's a powerful app that requires a rooted device with busy box for best performances.. It can be used to freeze apps so they don't run until after you unfreeze it. Think of it as disabling the app versus a complete uninstall. So in your case, if rooted, you can locate the OTA app & freeze it so it doesn't "phone" home.

While there are android viruses out there. It's not really necessary on the TV box as one should be careful while using it. Besides, it's a media player and shouldn't be used as anything else. However, if better safe than sorry applies, then I'd recommend Avast or 360 security.. Grab from the play store.

Since there are so lack of 4k materials and hardware, I think it is not a big miss if skips 4k feature.

So could anyone recommend good tv box with 2 GB ram, 16 GB emmc rom, support trueHD, dtsHD, atmos passthrough, support BDMV, BD-ISO container and all the goodies except 4k feature? Would the price be much cheaper?
