Gosh why all the grey and gloomy pictures... For your info, I'm a recruitment consultant as well and most of my placements are foreigners !

that's wonderful! as for my firm and the ones that I know of, we only accept SG (or PRs) only. New MOM regulations only allows us to specify Singaporeans Only so usually we don't really mention the nationality restriction in some job advertisements, we are just looking for more candidate response :/

anyway got a call from one of the top banks for an interview. hope it's a new beginning

Dear all, need some advice from u all.

My employment pass (EP) was approved but I need to undergo medical checkup in Singapore before going to MOM to get the EP. All can be done in one week. Hence, when i enter Singapore, should I enter as tourist or as foreign expats? I will enter Singapore in December 20, starting work in December 23.

Let say i write on the white chit (which is usually given to passenger on airplane) that my reason in entering singapore is to working, but my passport does not has the EP sticker, would they allow me to enter? Or i should state my reason for entering singapore as tourist?

Pls advise. Thanks

Your company should send you the IPA (in principal approval) letter. Come in to SG, enter as whatever also no difference. With the IPA letter you are allowed to start working while doing the health check, EP fingerprinting, etc.

Yeah, medical pass. No AIDS.

Btw, what time is good to go to MOM to get my EP pass? Is morning less people there?

Kinda want to skip the crowd if possible. I got tired of waiting at Malaysia "efficient" passport office for 2 bloody days with more than 8 system breakdown.

AVP = Assistant Vice President. It really depends because when i worked as collection my AVP is my manager's manager. But when I went to loan department, AVP is manger's manager manager. Lol...

Funds back office side. From what I gather it doesn't seem so high up, but I'm still trying to gather where that rank is in the pecking order.. (title inflation lol)

yup, is not really that high. Most of the company use this strategy.

The reason is because when customers are angry or wanted to complaint, they will say "I want to talk to your manager".
So in order to reduce the escalation case, they give title to their staff as "manager" or "senior manager".
Besides, with this "manager" or "AVP" in your name card, you would able to gain trust easily and respect. (Consumer's Behavior)

I even saw a department in other company with 3 staffs. (Director, Senior Manager, Manager) sweat.gif

How you become your manager's manager? Your boss's boss? Should be managing a group of managers right?

Titles in banks are meaningless for now. When I joined fresh from school, my title was assistant manager, so much different from the job scope of assistant manager now. Job is to oversee the department for my boss who only come in once or twice a month. 30+ people, some AVPs and some VPs.

Banks in the old days will come out and grab those high performing people and start grooming them in a different way than normal employees. You will notice a different job opportunities. For fresh grads, they look for scholars/medalists, once you are scholars then the corporate ladder become a lift, with lift operator inside asking you which floor. Some titles are created for interim position. I was "parachuted" into the dept, no assistant manager position exist before that. They are preparing for the take over of my boss's position for me, so the temporary title and the position disappear after my promotion. 5 years bond, NCC for 6 months, but hefty sign on bonus rclxm9.gif .

Your employer.
Since they are the one applying for you...they should have the IPA.
You should request it to be sent to you.

Anyone here know any public bank with cash deposit machine nearby JB CIQ/ city square mall? (within walking distance).

And what to do, eat, buy, visit when in JB (within walking distance near CIQ/ city square mall) ~ no car , so need to rely on JB public transport or walk.

Thanks.

Anyway, thanks for your input.
