Ms Michelle Qiu, 20, passed up offers from a top US college and a local university to become an oil trader, but she faced some initial opposition from her parents, who believed she should get a degree before working full-time.

Despite scoring straight As for her A-level examinations in 2011, the Raffles Girls' and Raffles Junior College alumnus passed up offers from a top college in the United States and a local university.

Check out these 10 strangest requests from Singapore bosses

2 in 5 employees get non-work-related tasks.

If you have received a really bizarre request from you employer at least once in your life, then you are not alone.

According to JobsCentral, nearly 2 in 5 Singapore workers (39%) say they've received requests from their bosses that had nothing to do with their job scope.

In addition, 21% of respondents say the requests were downright absurd.

JobsCentral compiled the following list of the top 10 strangest requests from Singapore bosses:

1. Dress up as Batman for a client meeting
2. Swap all my pink office stationery with hers (blue) because she dislikes blue!
3. Wait in my boss’s car and look out for traffic police. His car was parked illegally at a double-yellow-line lane
4. Find a dog that does not bark.
5. Do homework for my boss's children
6. Bear his traffic offense!
7. Take his shoes to all the cobblers around my office area to compare prices, just because the nearest cobbler charges $13 for mending fees
8. Book a hotel room under my name and credit card, and then lie to my boss's wife when she called the office
9. Draft my boss's appeal letter to LTA for his traffic summon. The letter was well received by the LTA folks, who let my boss off with a stern warning. I was given time-off for it.
10. Get a refund for an item he purchased three years ago!

if she gives u notification within the notice period, then it is fair.. she has to compensate u for any agent fees incurred..

if u r still not happy, can ask her to compensate u for relocation... if cannot settle u can contact aloong our daiko member

Tenant moves out in 1 day after meeting nightmare landlady

A man has taken to Internet forums to complain about a landlady who had allegedly imposed a variety of unreasonable rules, such as charging him for watching television and not allowing him to leave the bathroom floor wet after a shower.

The tenant, who goes by the username 'Disputed' on an online forum, said that he had rented and moved out of the room at Blk 63B Lengkok Bahru within a day.

'Disputed' said in his posting that he had moved in and paid $700 rent for a room at the Lengkok Bahru flat on October 26.

While he was moving in, a neighbour who saw him told him that previous tenants had moved out of the same flat as they could not get along with the landlady. When he asked the housing agent about what he had heard, he was told that the neighbour did not have a good relationship with the landlady.

After moving in, 'Disputed' said that the landlady started to impose many new rules on him. For example, he was not allowed to use the freezer compartment of the refrigerator and was only allowed to use a small space in the fridge.

He was also told that the bathroom floor had to be dry after he took his shower, and that the kitchen lights and fan in his room should not be switched on.

That was not all. His landlady also told him that no sound should be made when he was opening or closing the metal gate at the front door. She also insisted on increasing the rent when she saw that he had placed a television in his room.

Although he argued that these rules were not mentioned in the tenancy agreement, she told him that she had the right to change the rules as and when she wished as she was the owner of the flat.

Personally, the highly population and competitive culture in Singapore did not suit me well. Unfortunately, they didn't resonate with my heart at all. Well, I guess it really depends on people's perspective or preference.

Regarding rental, don't mean to sound racist here...
but if you ever get a dirty housemate from countryside mainland china or some exotic countries.... good luck don't let the bed bugs bite.

Have you ever stayed with someone that stinks so badly that people can recognise you from smell alone ?
How about someone with a few kg of leftovers under their bed ?
Shoes/slippers are good for public toilets, streets and room too. The same pair BTW.
Or clothing cupboard that smells of piss, heck the entire place smells of piss.

Dirty usually means a whole different level when it comes to a certain group of people.
As dirty as some Malaysian and Singaporean may be, I've not met anyone who qualify in the above 4 criteria.

i used to carry fish on my back to make sushi, my boss say using trolley will spoil d fish.. so d fish water drips on me.. even after bathing i smell like fish.. sad, but my dorm mates nvr complain

Fish smell is still acceptable.
Faeces smell however...
What I meant is that person stinks like shit so much that my friend who's staying in the same unit starting smelling like shit too.

I'm a realist, but most importantly, I'm not a hypocrite.
I would rather stay with an educated Malaysian regardless of race than a construction worker fresh from a village in Bangladesh.
My personal experience tell me there would be a lesser chance of hygiene problems if I stayed with the former.

faeces is diff case la... no one in d right mind would want themselves to smell like shiet, in america a lot of homeless smell like pee... pity them doh.gif

How about a less educated Malaysian construction worker with mud patches on the boots, dust all over the shirt and smell of sweat at the end of the of day, will I be discriminated against by fellow highly educated countrymen?

So regret never study good good in when in school. Now people look at me down always say from kampung. cry.gif
