a. Tax wise, better of in SG as the tax rates are much lower (almost a good 6-7% less of ur annual salary.. ie RM60k taxed at 10% vs S$60k taxed at 4% effective)
b. Quality of life - really depends on how you define it. if you want big house and your own car and have your extended family nearby (assuming ur from KL), msia wins. if you want convenience and relatively good public transport, singapore wins. (and I believe this changes as you age, and as you have kids)

A few things to think about is in terms of stress levels. Stress levels of a RM5k job and a S$5k is different. (i dunno how others feel, but I feel that it's bloody competitive here and that drains me on a day to day basis. Some are invigorated by the challenge, so yea.. depends on what kind of person you are)
*
Yeap, you are right. Your perception started to change when you grow older. Some of them choose to back to Malaysia to have their life but some convert to Singapore citizen.

Some of them do not want the stress anymore when they are old while some already used to it to live in Singapore. Different people different perception.

After your S Pass is approved , you need submit some document  ( Application doc + others ) + medical checkup report , and then go Collect the S Pass

Its actually quite simple.

So when your S Pass approved, get the document from your company and go to the panel clinic for medical check up. Get the medical check up report, make an appointment with MOM to submit your documents.  Then wait to collect your S Pass work permit.

Thanks alot for the info.

QUOTE(witchx @ Oct 28 2013, 05:17 PM)
I believe it is the same for everyone mate for that process. Unless you get the company to courier the paperwork to you perhaps?

You will need to bring the letter to the hospital to go through the blood test, urine test, x - ray. Remember to set appointment and not just walk in. else you have to join the standard queue for registration which may waste more time (note i did medical check in Raffles hospital, Bugis)

After that have to bring another letter to the Ministry of Manpower, with passport size photos to apply for the SP. Do not be afraid if you dont have the photos handy as there is a Photo shop right next door. They will need your finger prints and what not hence why you have to be there. However for the pass collection i did not have to do it as the company sends someone to collect it on my behalf.

It may differ as i applied under EP.
*
My workplace is at Aljunied. Izzit possible for me to take my letter and straight go to do the medical check up? I don't want to travel up and down.

Which mean I have to make an appointment for my medical check up and MOM to submit?

Thanks alot !

You can go to any clinic that provide medical checkup for work permit.
And also clinic to do x-ray.

In my case, i just walk in to a clinic that belong to my boss's friends to do medical checkup.
Then I have to go to another clinic to do x-ray since the first clinic no xray service.

After that you have to wait a few days to get result.
You can either go collect the result from clinic or they send it to MOM for you.
Then u make appt with MOM after they receive your medical report.

Better go to less popular ones, so shorter queue, but make sure they have x-ray service as well , so no need to run a few places.
*
okok... but do my company need the medical report result also?
Or I just send to MOM?

Previously, I was in bank industry for 1year and 9months. My salary was RM3000 excluded commission.

I got an offer of SGD $2400 now, do u all think is not worth to downgrade? (bt i got EP Q1 and I tot only salary above $3k can get EP)

What do you all think? hmm.gif

Separately, I am looking for room nearby Aljunied or Potong Pasir.

Currently I am staying with my bro at Clementi, sleep in living room and need to pay $300.

Is expensive and far from my work place. (although is in the same MRT line)

Downgrade? Convert $2400 and see how much is that in RM.

Many people try to get job in Singapore, you are lucky that you are offered a job there.

I hope that not relative bro, just some dude. If it is blood brother, get rid of him as soon as you can because your own brother charges you $300 for sleeping in living room.

Anyway, you're a big fellow, pay a bit more and go find yourself a room.
*
yes, is my bloody brother. I will look for job after my confirmation.

Regarding EP
It's more of a guide than a rule.
Plus they're usually more lenient on Malaysian.

UGPM regarding room. I know someone who's trying to rent a place in Boon Keng. Malaysian chaps, pretty nice people.
*
EP is easier to get PR right?

I am looking for Aljunied or Potong Pasir

BTW, just asking around. Banking AVPs are equivalent to assistant manager isn't it?
*
AVP = Assistant Vice President. It really depends because when i worked as collection my AVP is my manager's manager. But when I went to loan department, AVP is manger's manager manager. Lol...

Yeah, medical pass. No AIDS.

Btw, what time is good to go to MOM to get my EP pass? Is morning less people there?

Kinda want to skip the crowd if possible. I got tired of waiting at Malaysia "efficient" passport office for 2 bloody days with more than 8 system breakdown.
*
I think if you go after 10a.m should be no problem. Anyway SG very efficient.

Funds back office side. From what I gather it doesn't seem so high up, but I'm still trying to gather where that rank is in the pecking order.. (title inflation lol)
*
yup, is not really that high. Most of the company use this strategy.

The reason is because when customers are angry or wanted to complaint, they will say "I want to talk to your manager".
So in order to reduce the escalation case, they give title to their staff as "manager" or "senior manager".
Besides, with this "manager" or "AVP" in your name card, you would able to gain trust easily and respect. (Consumer's Behavior)

I even saw a department in other company with 3 staffs. (Director, Senior Manager, Manager) sweat.gif

But they only get working pass..or maybe s-pass...

i think u can apply a TT account with exchanger...
then TT directly to your bank account in malaysia..
subject to some charges.. if u TT less than 20k sgd iirc...
*
QUOTE(siberfriend @ Feb 4 2014, 03:06 PM)
you can TT as long as more than SGD 1.
Bank TT rate is not as good as MC at Arcade.

most of the MC charge SGD 10 if amount less than SGD 20K.
*
How much to open an account? Does the MC cover all M'sia bank?
Dunno worth or not... How did you all deal with this? Share Share thumbup.gif

Hi Mate, i'm applying for banks there cos i got background frm bank also. Apparently it is VERY hard to get into SG banks unless you're PR holder or looking for sales position. I'm currently stuck in airline call centre while still pinning hard for a bank here tho.
*
Agree. You are in Teledirect now?

QUOTE(nubJeff @ Mar 17 2014, 09:50 AM)
Hi, I heard of this also.

That why I'm trying to look some lobang to get into bank jobs, do you think if I internal transfer from Malaysia to Singapore would be easier?
*
Yes, internal transfer would be easier else you can ask your friend who work in bank refer you. I was a mortgage sales before. I try to apply banking industry here but is quite difficult. However, i dont put it top priority because it is very stressful.

I was once a collection officer in bank and served SG customers. I bet you will... rclxub.gif
Anyway, keep on sending and dont give up.
