Some taxi drivers race!!!! 12 minutes from woodlands checkpoint to bukit batok central. And they like to press on the gas pedal, then brake abruptly. Continue this routine until you arrive at your destination. Guess this is why everyone feels like puking -car sick.

QUOTE(LiangZhuge @ Dec 12 2013, 02:34 PM) Anyone here know any public bank with cash deposit machine nearby JB CIQ/ city square mall? (within walking distance). There's a public bank near city square (Jalan Wong Ah Fook). And what to do, eat, buy, visit when in JB (within walking distance near CIQ/ city square mall) ~ no car , so need to rely on JB public transport or walk. Thanks. No good at giving direction, please use google map. |

QUOTE(NoiZy @ Dec 16 2013, 02:19 PM) I believe 60 days is enough for getting a job, I spent 1 month looking for job, and was already renting a room with my friends, so once the contract ends, I will move somewhere nearer to the work place. So, you can rent without any proof of residence in Singapore (PR, or any Work Passes) My tips, get a SG mobtel, put that into your CV, send it out via jobstreet and you can engage EA (Employment Agency) to assist in your job hunt (don't put too much hope here). When looking for jobs, I would put higher hope to job ads that welcomes Malaysian and request go direct to HR instead of EA. EA competition in SG is very stiff. |

QUOTE(NoiZy @ Dec 16 2013, 05:56 PM) Yup. didn't really know much, but the landlady gave me the contract, read through, no hidden stuff, everything clear cut, just fill in my passport and details, and I got myself a room. Shitty part is I can't cook there. http://www.ecitizen.gov.sg/topics/pages/mo...spx?mpageId=161Nevermind, cause I just needed a place to crash for the time being, will move out from Marsiling to either Bishan/Braddell or Buona Vista area. But that is for another time. Who is eligible to rent. |

There are many reasons why people chose to work in Singapore but that doesn't mean everything back home is shite.

QUOTE(Sammyking @ Feb 1 2014, 12:50 PM) Ok, so I just found out that 12% of my pay will be deducted for this thingy called MVC - will I get that 12% back? If so, how and when do I get it back? And my offer letter never state in black and white what are the allowances/benefits that I will be getting, I was just briefly told through the phone. Is this a norm? The 12% monthly variable component is deductible when the company is not doing so well. And when the company is doing well again, they will stop deducting but will not pay you back for what they had taken/deducted before. Refer to your appointment letter. Many companies have this clause but when one starts deducting maybe it's time to look elsewhere. The 12% MVC or the 10% pay-cut. |

QUOTE(LightningFist @ Feb 28 2014, 09:25 PM) guys let's say you want to call the company (where you don't have contacts), but you can only get HR's number Department will need to seek approval from management for head count. Once approved, HR will start hiring process. Don't understand why do you think HR doesn't have any updated information. so you have no choice, you call HR but normally HR doesn't have updated information on whether there are vacancies in the desired dept. (they maybe have a list just like one you can find online sometimes) and further, if the dept. is willing to or wants to take in a fresh grad HR is very likely to not know this how to get past this so that the dept. gets to see your CV and you don't just get passed by HR? Hiring advertisements by HR > contact/send resume to HR > HR will go through CVs > pass CVs of potential candidates to hiring manager.... |

QUOTE(peterG @ Mar 7 2014, 09:46 PM) I will go collect offer letter next 2 weeks, will see how at there later. You'd think it's okay until you arrive in office drenched in sweat. But why say so, to avoid mrt? From google map, it tells that my office is around 1km to MRT. Is fine for me to walk 1 or 2km daily. |

QUOTE(Fiona Chin @ Mar 10 2014, 12:10 PM) Similar to salary, renew contract and tenant every year for big shift. If same tenant then minor or no adjustment. True to a certain extent. I guess it all depends on the landlord. My sister has been renting S$ 700/common room in Redhill, walking distance from MRT, aircond/minor cooking allowed/wifi/utilities included. No hike in 3 years. Rented a common room in Bukit Batok Central for S$ 850, cooking/visitors are not allowed, no wifi, naggy and calculative landlord included. Wanted to hike S$ 50 when lease coming to an end, she cited "S$ 50 increment a month and can do without paying another agent fees which is a plus point to us tenants". I think her maths were jumbled up. Why bother? moved to the adjacent block for S$ 700 and willingly paid whats due to the agent. |
