S pass holder can direct apply for PR?

WP also can apply, nothing stopping you.

QUOTE(jasonkwk @ Oct 29 2013, 02:15 PM)
what is the benefit of a Singapore PR beside buying resale HDB flat and better employment opportunities, as in non monetary benefit?

If you are the elite category who can afford multi room condo and send your kids to International School then PR is pretty worthless. If you like the other 85% of non elites then it's good to apply just to get the 3 year HDB waiting period clock ticking down ASAP.

No I didn't ... not yet, anyway. New blog post come then only I'll change, for now is still chicken rice lol.

To me it's worth it to go once (only) just for the sake of saying 'yes I've eaten at that chicken rice place.' But for a return visit no way biggrin.gif

Hi everyone, i read the news that Singapore increased restrictions on foreign workers. I plan to work in Singapore. It seems quite tough nowadays. Kindly advise. Tks

What advice are you expecting? we're not exactly a collection of headhunters / job agents. Yes, it is getting harder, but none of us will know whether it will be 'just slightly harder' or 'damn near impossible.' you want to come then throw CV's around and hope for the best lor.

Downgrade? Convert $2400 and see how much is that in RM.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh mang how can you convert FX and then declare that it's not a downgrade?

If I'm earning rm10k in Malaysia and I come over on sgd5k (27% increase after FX conversion), does that mean I got a good deal?

That's why I use http://www.carclub.com.sg/. Roughly $10 per hour and $0.30 per km, convenience of owning a car and driving yourself anywhere at prices just slightly more expensive than taking a taxi.

oo..I see....the currency rate mk me feel sg is a gd place to work..hmm..

SG is not a particularly happy place for freshies or (relatively) inexperienced hires now thanks to high rental, housing and car prices and almost-at-capacity public transport.

What would be a comfortable or at least bearable salary range if we go to Singapore? Assuming have to pay for rental, transportation, misc. expenses, the usual drills. I actually don't know how much is the income tax, come to think about it.

1st post already got sort of minimum expenses range. income tax go google, the tax rates are lower than Malaysia.

How did they manage to apply it for you? You would have to fill in the form and sign.

If I remember correctly (it's been a while), the company doesn't need your signature or even your consent to apply for the pass. You only come into the picture when bringing your IPA to complete the formalities at WPSC, EPSC, etc.

Can I survive with $2500 in Singapore ?

There's plenty of bus drivers, cleaners, etc on way lower than $2500 and they aren't dying in the streets, so you could definitely survive on that.

Cannot, this one working illegally liao. The company must apply for a work pass or training pass and get the IPA (in principle approval) before you can start work legally.

Anybody who has gone through this process care to share whether i would have to surrender my malaysian license in order to convert to the singapore license so that i can drive in singapore?

Officially, when you get the letter of driving license thing from JPJ they will cancel your malaysia license. So the SG side won't ask for it since the assumption is that it's already cancelled at the MY side.

"For Malaysian licence holders, an extract from JPJ Malaysia showing information of your driving record and licence information (obtained not more than 6 months before date of conversion)"
So basically i just need a letter from JPJ regarding my driving license information to be submitted for the conversion. It makes no mention that i have to surrender my malaysian license at all.

Yes. Note that by mutual law in both countries, you are only allowed to hold either MY or SG license at a time, but not both together. So when you go JPJ and get the extract, by law JPJ will cancel your Malaysia license since you are going to apply for SG license. You are allowed to drive in Malaysia using SG license.

Some people (myself included) get around this by requesting the JPJ extract in any state other than Johor and giving some bullsh*t reason like I wanna go drive overseas so that JPJ doesn't cancel the license. Or they go hire runners in JPJ Johor to bribe the officers. If you go yourself to JPJ Johor, confirm they will not listen to anything you say and will cancel your license.

Why only johor?
Since my hometown is in malacca, it should be no issue since as you have mentioned that only johor jpj does this.
Why would they want to cancel my driving license if all i request was information on a piece of paper.

like i said, by law you are not allowed to hold MY and SG licenses together. In Johor JPJ they will assume the moment you request for the extract, that you are converting to SG license (cos of the hundreds of thousands of Malaysians living in Johor working in SG). In other states they give you the benefit of the doubt.
