Any SAS SSD out there with reasonable price? Looking to find a SSD for a company's server but the SSD price is one hell of a joke, yes it has good endurance (200GB @ 3.86PB) but it just don't justify the high price, I could buy a high-end PC with that price alone.

Is Enterprise SSD came out just so to earn more from "Enterprise"? sweat.gif

Not sure if there is any enterpise SSD which is "cheap".

But this is a consumer SLC SSD, which should have a theoretically better lifespan.

sas ssd is expensive because of its endurance.

i think you should consult options from your vendor for much better warranty support (imo that's the better way to secure the investment)

this is one option hehe

edit:

after weeks of previous benchmarks, these are the current ones for samsung 840 evo sata and msata:

840 evo, sata, 500gb

840 evo, msata, 500gb
Attached Image

sm841, sata, 512gb
Attached Image

crucial m500, sata, 960gb

crucial m500, sata, 960gb

all seemed fine. however if you still followed the feedback at overclock.net, there are still mixed reviews. not sure what's wrong, but on my side it's good now.

Hi guys, I am looking at Samsung 840 evo 120gb. Is there any reason for me to get the 256gb if my uses are just general usage/work and I just want a speedier laptop? I'll replace the optical drive with the SSD and there is another 1TB HDD for storage.

I see from reviews that samsung 840 evo is probably about the best bang for buck SSD at the moment.

If you have the budget, why not?
Large capacity SSD might save your headache later if you don't want to carry extra portable HDD with you.

yes it seems that ssd's have the endurance that we need. even with those samples which died half way of this test, we can't live that long to witness their deaths. if this is the case, the questions about premature deaths for those drives that we had on hand might be related to other factors than nand flash endurance. there are still a number of observations can be made from this test. it's for you to find out hehe

a nice comparison smile.gif

pcie is definitely the way to go for a system in near future. this will be true when nvme ssd's start populating the market. however if you take into accounts the costs to achieve the same for now, sata options are still good.

hi guys, need some pointers here. this is my current SSDs condition;

user posted image

is the drive still good? been serving me well for almost 6 years now, planning to get the intel 730 240gb as replacement if things go downwards too quick. is it a good choice? it has 5 years warranty which is good, but everyone seems more interested in the samsung series.

Looks good from the SMART, but most of the modern drive is already way faster than it.
Intel is great value for warranty, Samsung is great for its performance, the 850 Pro has 10-year warranty, even better if you're not I/O intensive user.

Some update on SG SSD prices.

Samsung EVO 250GB went as low as SGD152 which translate to RM383, normal prices around RM400 or SGD159.

Samsung EVO 120GB is now SGD88 or RM221.

Cheapest 120GB SSD is Kingston V300 at SGD80.90 or RM203.86

Prices are dropping every month or two. I think by the time Black Friday, we may see prices below USD60 for 120GB SSDs.
*
Get it from the US bro, way cheaper than even singapore.

Bought my samsung pro ssd 512GB at a super cheap price during black friday.

looks good to me, too. you can check based on values in the last page of this guide (http://oczforum.com/staff/meander/OCZ_SSD_ABC_Guide.pdf) fyi ocz vertex 2 was released in 2010.

the main difference in intel 730 is the enterprise-grade nand flash chip that has much higher endurance.

this vertex is surely out of warranty period already, but since you said its still going good, i might delay upgrading, wait for more price drops and bigger drives.

oh ya, sorry about that, ya i bought this back in 2010, when SSD prices were insane. i haven't been upgrading anything for a while, so decided to dump my cash on it. one of my best pc upgrading decision ever.

if the capacity is a problem to you, then you should consider the upgrade. ssd's today, with the same price, have capacity and speed that is double of the older drives. to get that full speed you need sata3.

you can convert the old drive to secondary disk in your rig, or become a portable.

I also have a vertex 2 and frm 2010. still with me but using it only as secondary storage for backing-up drivers. soon it will be used as a external portable drive.

pretty cool isn't it ? recycling older SSD as external portable storage and still it will be faster than any external hard disk drive.

or u can used it in older laptops/desktops.....with older sata 2 interface..

The vertex 2 is a Sata 2 drive. nowadays, it's Sata 3. definitely u will see some speed improvement if u buy a new Sata 3 SSD & provided u used it with a SATA 3 interface.

nowadays 240/256 GB is optimal size and it doesn't cost a bomb like the vertex 2 did in 2010.

yup, i think i have an external casing lying somewhere and this ssd would do fit nicely. how about the Kingston HyperX 3k ssd? read some reviews that it is very good too, although with the standard 3 years warranty.

Kingston's brand reputation is pretty tainted with this action,
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7763/an-upda...wer-micron-nand

But for their HyperX line, no idea, should be OK?

But generally, when talking bout SSD this days, its all about Intel/Samsung/Plextor with occasional mention of Crucial for their MX100 line.

If you searching for bang for bucks (locally available), I think the Transcend 370 512GB is the one to go for, cheapest 512GB available locally.

that trancend how much bro? 3 years warranty?
