The key word is the bolded part. When I start work with my other half, our pay difference is about 3 times. We came from the same school, different courses and results though, I go into bank and he go into engineering. Fast forward to date, his title I think is principal engineer, and I just a small potato in my company, but the income gap is still significant.

US MNC normally pay huge sum of salary. Can't believe my eyes when I got the offer letter from one of the US investment bank here when I was a fresh grad. Like too good to be true don't know black shop or not lol.

Er, so ... does banking pay more than engineering or the other way around? When you start work you $3k and he $1k? And now you $10k and he $7k?

it depends a lot... most banks here serve as the regional hq for apac or at least for asean... the local banks have their management all in sg too... so there's a minimum standard to be followed

on the other hand ... how many big engineering companies are there in sg? are they just for operations/rep/marketing office/r&d?

lets look at keppel, sembcorp, hyflux, schlumberger, halliburton, rolls royce, GE, fmc, ST... i believe these are the few high paying ones but which if them are having their home base in sg? only the local ones.. regional hq? maybe some but how many employees they employ? totally diff from bank

another industry that's going to be very hot is the legal industry... mark my words..

Is it possible to have $100k by 30?

SINGAPORE - "I'll never get rich," a friend exclaimed recently during a casual catch-up.

"I earn so little and I don't think I'll ever get $1 million. Heck, even $100,000 seems far off for now," he lamented.

I was caught by surprise at his outburst, but decided to ask just how much he earned.

Within banking there are different segments to the business. Each segment commands different premiums. The same goes without saying for engineering with oil and gas at the helm followed closely by precision engineering.

But market forces will align these premiums to ensure equilibrium given the risks and nature of the jobs in the long run.

My observation, over the long run, finance professional will out earn their counterparts (if there is one to begin with) from engineering. The upper echelon from both professions are created when they have the opportunity to invest into the business as an equity partner. Simply, there are more opportunities for finance professionals to put their money to work as an equity partner provides an edge against their counterparts in engineering. Think hedge funds and oil & gas. The flip side is also true. The rule of risk and reward is not violated.

But really, when you move up the hierarchy the distinction between finance and engineering diminishes because its about business development and asset management.

Hello guys, I hope you guys can help me please.

I just got a professional job offer from a company in Singapore. My company location is near Chinatown at Magazine Road.

So, right now I am trying to find an affordable place less than S$ 1000 to stay.

Anyone of you have any good accommodation recommendations or room to share?

I know that on the 1st page of this forum there are some websites with the accommodation links but I hope that I can stay with Malaysian.

I am a male Malaysian Chinese from Sarawak.

Thanks you. icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

Guys, anyone staying in Tampines area?

After months of depositing resume finally manage to secure an interview and got my offer rclxms.gif

Little advice for fellow Malaysian who intending to work here, get yourself a Singapore address and number and put them in your resume
It does make a difference for me, but it's only applicable when you are unemployed tongue.gif

Cheers
