QUOTE(robertchoo @ Jun 10 2013, 02:40 PM) My 2 cents also comming from a banking sector but in the process of relocating back to malaysia. My advice if you really want to get a job in SG is to spend at least 3 months in SG with a SG address and hp no. Send as many CV as you can and tailor the CV to each job that you've sent. Also try those small offshore banks who many be more willing to accept foriegners espcially if you can read and write chinese well. There are lot of small chinese and taiwanese banks. Google them and write in to them. At least there are less competition becuase locals don't want to join them coz they are too small while non chinese cannot join them because they cannot speak, read and write chinese. You will have a significant advantage. Don't forget to apply for REP earlier

QUOTE(ilineZ @ Jun 10 2013, 04:29 PM) i think sg 'only' give u good public transport, clean city, security, and strong currency. other than that KL is better, really better. Also in terms of banking or IT, it's way ahead of Malaysia . Other fields I am not sure as I didn't have the chance to get into...

QUOTE(crazy25kid @ Jun 13 2013, 10:17 AM) care to explain the illegal part? in case next time i look for a unit, i know what to beware of lock 1 room case? Lock 1 room also legally not allowed. They lock one room was because just in case HDB people come and check, they will open it up and says they still stay there. Legal HDB means the landlord will need to apply through HDB to rent out the entire unit. Most landlords don't want to do it cause rental is taxable If renting illegal and HDB found out, HDB have the rights to ask the tenant to vacant the premises immediately. That's what I heard but not sure how true

QUOTE(tyj82 @ Jun 14 2013, 11:08 AM) Claiming lock 1 room is not allow, I am not sure how you declare the owner staying o not. There a room for owner and he can come and stay in the room. I still have not seen any HDB office for the past 5 year renting here. Just close your door when you home and never open to anyone. HDB office wont come in. Yup as I mentioned claiming to lock one room is not allowed. It's just owners exploiting the system. I personally have friends who have encountered it. HDB came knocking on the door and want to check the owner is it renting out the whole apartment illegally. Then my friends will tell HDB that the owner is overseas and not around. Subsequently they will call the owner and inform them and the owner will come and stay/wait for my friend to call them when HDB comes and they will rush back and open the door of the locked room. They will like put some clothing and furniture there. It's just an act to play around the system. Another friend who is not so lucky. The owner basically don't care and HDB came twice. The third time HDB came down with some legal documents and my friend was told to move out on the spot at 9pm+. No excuse no leniency. All these are true life encounter. So I always rent condo to save the trouble of being lied by owners

QUOTE(seantang @ Jun 19 2013, 02:07 PM) Wow... if they punch a hole in your licence at JPJ,.. how do they expect you to drive home from JPJ? No licence, man. Basically is not valid anymore. You can use your Singapore license to drive a Malaysian registered car. So far I kena once and the police and JPJ was lenient. They just let me off without anything so am not sure is it legally or they are just being nice. Use a runner to do it for you. Basically you can have both your Malaysian and Singapore license valid

Just bite the bullet and take the low pay first. Slowly climb up the ladder. Entry level you need to take note you are fighting among the rest of the nationals like Philippines, China and India. Best is to start in those small company that "one leg kick all". Pick up as much skill as you want and 3 years down the road focus on the skill that you are keen and go for it. IT without interest will kill your working attitude

Compare bankers and engineers cannot lah . Different field different level and industry. Now MNC don't pay that well anymore for engineers (am talking about IT line ). Last time overseas project fly business class. Now you will be lucky if there are overseas posting.

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Jul 9 2013, 08:06 PM) are you from ivy league? maybe when he's fresh he became senior engineer liao? it depends a lot... most banks here serve as the regional hq for apac or at least for asean... the local banks have their management all in sg too... so there's a minimum standard to be followed on the other hand ... how many big engineering companies are there in sg? are they just for operations/rep/marketing office/r&d? lets look at keppel, sembcorp, hyflux, schlumberger, halliburton, rolls royce, GE, fmc, ST... i believe these are the few high paying ones but which if them are having their home base in sg? only the local ones.. regional hq? maybe some but how many employees they employ? totally diff from bank another industry that's going to be very hot is the legal industry... mark my words.. I was referring to IT not others lah... If am from Ivy league, I would give Singapore a miss and go elsewhere lol This post has been edited by catacomb: Jul 9 2013, 10:18 PM

I know that on the 1st page of this forum there are some websites with the accommodation links but I hope that I can stay with Malaysian. I am a male Malaysian Chinese from Sarawak. Thanks you.
