Damn Win 8.1 makes my HDD feels even slower..

I will not hesitate to upgrade to a SSD..but right now, the price is still too high for a reasonable storage space

I created a partition , will this slow down my performance causing slower HDD?

my 5460 runs so fast with win8.1 though. not sure why you're having this problem?

Hey guys.. I need help, still trying to boot my ssd, but it seems that whenever i put my ssd instead of the hdd in the laptop, the laptop cant boot..will stuck at bios dell splashscreen..cant even get into f2 setup..

I tried using the ssd as external drive and it works normal. Any idea?

Everything else runs fast...boot, processing etc...i notice it only lags during HDD read/write

Is it normal? could it be the partition?

Hmmm...i checked...and i just noticed, even when i'm doing nothing, i have these rubbish running in the background..Do you have it too?

Most of the time, it's the "System" thingy that occasionally having 99% usage of the disk.

Update your Mcafee and upgrade your bios to A07.

Hi there, thanks for the advice.. I looked through dell's support website. Apart from a whole bunch of things from dell that is either slow or not working, the latest for BIOS available is A01.

right click on the Process that have lots of disc activities. Select Properties. or File Location. Then you should be able to identify what is actually running.

I'd tested my 5470, the WIFI seems lousy when pair with unifi original router.
Connection always lost when my other device remains connected. Sometimes the WIFI status show connected but unable to load internet website.

Hi, I have the same problem, but I dont think it's due to the 5270, i have the same problem with my ipad, iphone, PC, other laptops and android phones as well.

I read somewhere else that the Unifi router is famous for this, but i never had any problems until recently, but my router is about 3 yrs old now. I have had no problem connecting to other routers though. Signal strength is fine too. Even better than my phone.

No doubt TM unifi give us shitty router... When I'm just sit next to the router, the connection seems fine, never disconnected even once, but once I went inside room, the connection seems getting weaker & disconnected. My room distance to router is less than 10 meter & only 1 wall in between. I also noticed the signal bar shown is not accurate, it shows 3-4 bar, but actually the signal is poor when i click to view the details.

BTW, I noticed 5470 have 2 graphic cards. 1st is built in Intel HD & another is Nvidia GT740M, do we need to select which to use or both will run at same time automatically?

There was once I came across a section where they let me select which I would like to use for my 3D settings. I think its in the Nvidia control panel.

But if I am not mistaken, windows will automatically select which to use. Besides, I don't think that the NVidia has ever been used in my laptop as I don't do gaming. Just usual office and some adobe stuff.

So far how is the vostro 5470? Is it a solid unit or a very flimsy till you feel like can bend or break the unit?

Personally, I don't feel it's that flimsy after all...it definitely feels more solid than the samsung

I'm not a very careful person with my gadget, and I find 5460 / 5470 is a bit fragile for myself If you twist it (base side to side, display side to side .. ), it will bend
But it is actually quite on par with normal consumer line laptop around RM2k range in term of build quality.

I just noticed ..

1. Dell's auto detect thing for the drivers etc...DOES NOT WORK !!..at least for me. So I have to search one at a time..to look for updates.. DAMN !!

2. The bluetooth on the Vostro 5470, ain't working. It gets connected, the disconnects

3. After updating to Windows 8.1, the obsolete digitalPersona fingerprint thing is pretty much useless with IE 11.

4. McAffee is driving me crazy..slowing everything down by half.
