nvm buddy, as long as "5460" we can smile when sitting side by side with Mac Air user.
even though the performance cannot beat Mac Air, but to be able to match 75% of Mac
Air design considered as power already I go yumcha with hubby at starbucks, people
asking about my model more than his Mac Air.

   

Quite a few owners posted they have increase RAM to 8GB.
As mentioned, there is only 1 RAM slot. So you need to buy 8GB stick and replace the 4GB stick.
5470, better stay with DDR3L (~ RM250).
5460, some owners said could use DDR3 (~ RM200).

Quite easy to remove the bottom panel (access to almost all components). Good idea to learn so that you could remove dust from fan / heat sink yourself in the future.

5470 don't have FreeDOS spec.
And for any new laptop models that come FreeDOS, don't pitch your hope on drivers for WinXP, count your lucky star if brands released drivers for W7 (if at all)

those wondering how to reformat and reinstall windows for dell laptops... even if they dont come with recovery DVD... look inside the laptop for a file named "factory.wim"

this is your factory setting original windows image.. all the serial info built inside already apparently such that when you reinstall this .wim image.. you do not need to re-enter the windos serial number..

so find this factory.wim and make a backup copy somewhere... in your backup external HDD or your DVD or your thumbdrive... whenever you need to reformat.. use this image again...

how to restore factory.wim... that's a whole different story.. it could be tricky.. just be sure that the image is x86 or x64.. and use the image restrore software corresponding to it..

Hi, I have the same problem, but I dont think it's due to the 5270, i have the same problem with my ipad, iphone, PC, other laptops and android phones as well.

I read somewhere else that the Unifi router is famous for this, but i never had any problems until recently, but my router is about 3 yrs old now. I have had no problem connecting to other routers though. Signal strength is fine too. Even better than my phone.

I just noticed ..

1. Dell's auto detect thing for the drivers etc...DOES NOT WORK !!..at least for me. So I have to search one at a time..to look for updates.. DAMN !!

2. The bluetooth on the Vostro 5470, ain't working. It gets connected, the disconnects

3. After updating to Windows 8.1, the obsolete digitalPersona fingerprint thing is pretty much useless with IE 11.

4. McAffee is driving me crazy..slowing everything down by half.

It baffles me that Dell does not give me the option to not install McAfee.

I'm thinking of vostro or that new Inspiron 11 3000 but I have not heard much feedback from that unit.

To me, battery life is king, as I travel a lot.

Dell going to replace anything you complaint between warranty period

i replace network card 2 time...  1st replace with intel, 2nd time replace with realtek network card
and replace palm rest due to space bar loose...
