Hey guys.. I need help, still trying to boot my ssd, but it seems that whenever i put my ssd instead of the hdd in the laptop, the laptop cant boot..will stuck at bios dell splashscreen..cant even get into f2 setup..

I tried using the ssd as external drive and it works normal. Any idea?

Any of you guys mate a 5470 with ssd yet?

i bought 5470 (rm2149) laptop.. then bought myself Crucial m500 ssd, but the ssd wont work. I called up dell, they say 5470 got 2 kind.. 1 is 5470 notebook, and 1 is 5470 ultrabook.. somehow the rm2149 is notebook, thus does not support SSD. its kinda stupid excuse, but heck. anyone manage to get it anything work?

or should i just get mSata?

'dell' technician said, the one in ultrabook series. probably gonna have stickers..
IMO, dell is just giving lame excuse.. my 7 years old pc can use SSD with no problem lol, why newer dell cant support. At first, they even try to convince me how SSD port is different than sata. lol

The bios will hang, thus no further testing.
Bios simply wont get past through if m500 SSD is plugged in.

Spam any bios button, it wont go into bios setting. The laptop will stuck at black screen with dell logo

no i cant use my ssd. (as said by dell, my one is not build to take ssd)
secondly, the problem not on my part. no such thing as not fast enough to press f2 and what not. the laptop just hangs and no further option. (takes 10 minutes to display bios setting, and still says no primary hdd connected).


Dell said to me, there are chances where ssd will be able to boot. u need to test which ssd is able and crucial m500 is not the one.

read properly where i said, bios hang, even it if doesnt, it cant detect ssd. 'Detect', not boot. SSD is non-existence to the system.

To your question.

1. I cloned hdd to ssd.
2. I know how to boot from usb
3. I did try to boot from usb with ssd inside. Either the bios cant event boot to usb, or booted. but Windows installation cant detect ssd drives to install.
4. I tried all bios setting to pair with ssd. ahci uefi legacy ,anything wont work. theres no ide for this laptop.
5. I can boot my desktop while paired with the ssd, but not my laptop.

when i said bios cant detect ssd, i mean drives.

Primary Drives : no primary drives

thats what it says in the bios.\


as in the video, the laptop DOES detect the ssd as intel blabla.. mine just say, No Primary Drives

To change the bios setting, i had to put hdd.. there no way for me to change bios setting while ssd in is the bay.
Yes i did try your method.

lol i had this problem long ago already.I am already using msata now cuz ssd just wont work. msata works wonderful without problem and hassle. Booting takes less than 10second. everything is snappy

wah overheat? my laptop(5470) never overheat.. even when im playing games, the laptop is cooler than any other laptop out there.

no one sells it locally.
i bought from taobao, 64gb cost me around 250.. i buy through lowyat taobao agent, with a lil bit extra charges.
sandisk msata 64gb u100... best brand u can get in taobao.. other china brand use sataII msata which tops at 100mb/s write.. mine tops at 300mb/s
