QUOTE(ericlawyh @ Jan 13 2016, 10:45 AM) Seems like I really have to buy another decent NAS just to meet my simple expectation. In summary: - Wireless file transfer using normal Windows Explorer Copy & Paste: 1.74MB/s - Wireless file transfer using SCP Protocol: 0.05625MB/s Download, 0.0875MB/s Upload Probably a CPU limitation. Check your router's CPU usage. If it goes to 100% when transferring at 1.74MB/s then that's all you gonna get. What can I say? It's a router not an NAS. Even my old DLink DNS-323 "NAS" only serves files at about 3-4MB/s. The older model Airport Extreme Base Station and my Mikrotik RB751G both do 2-3MB/s. Test were done using SMB. I'm currently using an RB2011 with a faster CPU so it may fare a bit better.

But, even your "old" gadgets still have the better performance than a"new" 2015 model of RT-AC1200HP's 1.74MB/s.

SCP will be slower compared to NFS/Samba, especially when it uses a "stronger" encryption method. Regardless, it does look slow, even my raspi can deliver more than that on 802.11n.
Check on your cpu usage and have you set any QoS/firewall settings?

Will check the router's CPU usage when back home tonight. As I'm still using VIP 10, hence the QoS has been set as 10Mbps for both download & upload with default firewall. Let's see whether ASUSmy can reproduce this symptom or not...

QUOTE(wcypierre @ Jan 13 2016, 11:42 AM) Remove the QoS and try again. Will try that as well. If QoS was the culprit, then the router's firmware is buggy. Based on my understanding, QoS would only manage the WAN download / upload bandwidth, and shouldn't restrict the internal LAN speed.

I don't have any experience with Asus router's web interface, but afaik unless you've set a specific filter to limit it to a subnet/domain/ip/port/interface, otherwise it would apply the rule for all packets.

Well, I didn't set any particular limit on subnet/domain/ip/port/interface. You may have a look on its dummy configuration screen below: http://event.asus.com/2012/nw/dummy_ui/en/QoS_EZQoS.html

QUOTE After applied the QoS rules, the router will check all network packets from LAN to WAN. https://www.asus.com/support/faq/113967/

You're doing the job for ASUSmy. Nevertheless, I still unable to correlate the QoS restriction on port 80 with the internal wireless LAN file transfer. QUOTE There are two QoS rule for the 80 port, (1) Web surf and (2) File Transfer. If the each 80 port cumulated session size under 512 KB, it may be a normal web surfing. If the cumulated session size over 512KB, it may be a file download via 80 port. The purpose of our default rules is to set file transfer with low priority and it would not influence the web surfing. If you want the high file download speed via HTTP, you can modified the default rules. * The cumulated session size is summation of upload stream and download stream.

QUOTE(Netto Hikari @ Jan 12 2016, 10:58 PM) @ASUSmy i tried both maxis mode available in the drop down menu, but still cannot connect. Hi Netto Hikari, Can you try updating the firmware to the latest and do a factory reset. If still cannot, can you provide me your setting and log files from the router and I will help you check. I will PM you my e-mail address. Thank you.

QUOTE(ericlawyh @ Jan 12 2016, 10:52 PM) Bear in mind that, the now-aging USB 2.0 standard can theoretically transfer data at a very high 480 megabits per second (mbps), or 60 megabytes per second (MBps). But, what happened to the ASUS Router NAS performance throughput? Can you provide the actual tested performance statistics for the higher grade AC class routers? Below are the screenshots for your reference. File transfer rate when connecting the HDD via USB 2.0: [attachmentid=5784080] File transfer rate when connecting the HDD via USB 3.0 [attachmentid=5784081] Wifi Adapter properties: [attachmentid=5784082] Hi ericlawyh, Thank you for the information, may I know when you connected to the 5GHz, what is the data rate that you get for your WiFi. Thank you Attached thumbnail(s)

Kindly reproduce this symptom in your environment and advice on the optimize setting for wireless LAN file transfer.

@ASUSmy,
bit torent on N56U Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.378_4850 router seems cannot max out download speed, no QOS
is there any extra settings needed?
