My friend's Asus router stopped working. How long is the warranty for RT-N16? Is there a online warranty check somewhere?

QUOTE(dreamthief @ Dec 22 2015, 02:41 PM) Anyone tried doing that? How would you know it's from which distributor? Maybe I go back and check the box again, I kept it. What timeframe did they give you when you sent in your item? I usually have quite good experience with Best Point. If they say 2-4weeks or 4-6weeks, usually the item is ready early. I've sent in stuff from Gigabyte, Mikrotik, WD, Seagate, D & TPLink, etc... However never Asus since I seldom buy Asus. Best point is the name of the service centre. Bought from Viewnet. Avoid at all cost. The only time I had a problem was with a Transcend flash drive. That was solved by going straight to the distro in Amoda. |

QUOTE(ericlawyh @ Jan 13 2016, 10:45 AM) Seems like I really have to buy another decent NAS just to meet my simple expectation. Probably a CPU limitation. Check your router's CPU usage. If it goes to 100% when transferring at 1.74MB/s then that's all you gonna get. What can I say? It's a router not an NAS.In summary: - Wireless file transfer using normal Windows Explorer Copy & Paste: 1.74MB/s - Wireless file transfer using SCP Protocol: 0.05625MB/s Download, 0.0875MB/s Upload Even my old DLink DNS-323 "NAS" only serves files at about 3-4MB/s. The older model Airport Extreme Base Station and my Mikrotik RB751G both do 2-3MB/s. Test were done using SMB. I'm currently using an RB2011 with a faster CPU so it may fare a bit better. |

I have a couple of Asus routers, a RT-N12-D1 and a RT-N16. I'm planning to use it as a torrent downloader so I dun have to turn on my Mac all the time. Maybe save some TNB. Maybe also want to try some of the Asus Cloud features.
What's the best firmware to use? I'm total noob to Asus routers but quite familiar with Mikrotik & Cisco routers and networking in general. |

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Mar 11 2016, 03:04 PM) Read his post properly. He did say he has an RT-N16 Thanks, I'll try out AsusWRT-Merlin. There're so many firmwares for the RT-N16, I don't know where to start.soonwai you can use the RT-N16 as a torrent downloader I've tried it before, works beautifully I'm using AsusWRT-Merlin though |

QUOTE(xxxWilliamxxx @ Apr 5 2016, 11:48 PM) Yes, using WiFi with my neighbours RT-N12-D. He's on Adv30. The walls separating us are red brick not concrete so that helps.Even my neighbour's old RG4332 can give me full speed. It's the last speedtest on the list. https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...entry77571411 |

QUOTE(xxxWilliamxxx @ Apr 6 2016, 12:20 AM) RT-N12 is pretty good. Should be good for up to 50mbps. UniFi 100 maybe not.The only thing, I'm not sure of, is the 32MB of RAM that it has and how much of it is free when the router is up & running. The lack of ram may limit the number of connections if you're into bittorrent. It might be OK though, a 32mb Mikrotik RB941-2nD-TC has about 10mb ram free when it's running and is still able to take about 20000 connections. I expect the RT-N12 to be around the same. |

Hi all, I've got an Asus RT-N16 sitting idle for years now. Wanna put it to some use. What's a good 3rd party firmware for it?
I plan to attach a HD, maybe use for: • torrents • file sharing Other than routing, switching and wifi, what else can I do with it? This post has been edited by soonwai: Feb 23 2017, 10:50 PM |

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Feb 24 2017, 12:08 AM) Not good for file sharing due to the dreadful USB performance. Probably as a downloader. Thanks so much. I'll try those. This AsusWRT-Merlin fork is great and vouched by Merlin. https://www.snbforums.com/threads/fork-asus...2e4-23b8.18914/ You can go hardcore and have Tomato. There's a lot of custom builds by the Chinese as well. |

QUOTE(carz @ Mar 15 2017, 03:00 PM) For the LAN patch cord, which wiring scheme should be used - T568A & T568B ? Doesn't matter which one you use. You can mix cables also no problem. Even if for one cable, one rj45 is A and the other is B, also can. In this case, it becomes a crossover cable. Most switches are auto mdix so crossover also can use.Can T568A & T568B be mixed , that is some cords T568A and some T568B What are the standard cords supplied with the routers nowadays ? |

QUOTE(Drian @ Apr 8 2017, 02:26 AM) You're right , I missed out a number in the username. Not your fault. It's TM's wierdness. Ever since a week or two ago, the PPPoE client will authenticate OK even with a wrong username or password but is assigned a 172.x.x.x. private IP which can't get to the internet. I don't know why they do that. Previously we just get an authentication error.I can't believe I missed that out. Maybe because it showed connected to internet when it is not, I was focussing on other things. |

QUOTE(Green_lemontea @ Apr 28 2017, 10:31 PM) Asus team, help please! My Asus RT-AC87U shows connected in the internet status from web GUI, but I have no internet access still. 2 things to check:In laptop diagnose, its showing - Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS Server) is not responding. Checking router log, I found out the below two suspicious IP address of the DNS servers where are nowhere configured on my router - http://imgur.com/X4E2fur Note that I have tried with assigning 8.8.8.8 in LAN portion of the web GUI, and also try not to assign. Both does not resolve. Can you let me know what can I do? 1. That your UniFi username and password is correct. If you're sure that they are and this happened out of the blue. 2. Check that your bill is paid. Your account is suspended. The clue is the IP address, 172.x.x.x, that UniFi is assigning you. |

QUOTE(dng2007 @ May 1 2017, 12:11 AM) Please ensure you already tick the "Special Requirement from ISP" check box upon select your broadband provider prior to proceed with the router quick setup process. Green_lemontea's already done that. You can see that from the log that he posted. Note: no need to configure IP on PC/laptop, router will automatic provide a new DHCP IP for you! |

QUOTE(jusbella @ Oct 16 2017, 10:33 PM) WPA2 is standard security protocol in WiFi, thus all manufacturer that using WPA2 security will be affected, even most expansive cisco that using WPA2 will be affected. Not really, Asus may not be affected. Mikrotik as a typical AP aren't affected. The key is not to reuse your nonce. Mikrotik's WDS is affected, latest version has it fixed, maybe. The only way is change to enterprise WPA that require cert to be installed will not be affected. Here you can see who is and who is not affected. Asus is unknown at the moment. http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/byvendor?searc...9&SearchOrder=4 This post has been edited by soonwai: Oct 17 2017, 01:04 AM |
