this question has been asked few times already it this thread. i'm pretty sure you are lazy to reinstall your OS since you are also lazy to find the answer for your question.  tongue.gif

you can clone your disk, but you need to do some tweaking on your windows as some feature will not enable such as TRIM support.. other than than, superfetch & prefetch will not be disable by windows. this only applicable to Windows 7. If you perform clean install of your windows 7, by default once it detect you OS disk is SSD, TRIM support will be enabled. prefetch & superfetch will be disable..

after all it's your choice. good luck.

looks like still gotta do something but then is faster by just doing some few lines and cmd would be time saving than reinstall everything tongue.gif

I cloned my Windows XP and 7 partition too, didnt do clean install as it quite hassle to redownload all the windows update, which is time consuming + slow.
For tweaking, just use SSD Tweaker http://www.elpamsoft.com/?p=SSD-Tweaker
will solve a lot of headache thumbup.gif

Trial, Pro version will not pop up iirc.
Or if you prefer to tweak the registry manually http://www.overclock.net/t/1133897/windows...-tweaking-guide

it's normal..windows will create a system reserved partition for windows function properly
it's not recommended to delete the partition..elsewhere u might encounter certain problem in future....

just wondering...

a friend of mine said that SSD will die faster if we copy & paste files from SSD to removable HD/FD or delete & restore files too much.
basically, he said the more we write on the SSD, the faster it dies(compared to HDD).

it is true ?

p/s: 'm just another noob

during the windows installation, please read the on screen instruction carefully. it will state that windows will create additional partition for system reserved partition. as been told earlier, this is normal and do not delete the system reserved partition, else you might get in trouble in the future.

of course SSD will die faster the more you write on it. same goes to traditional hard disk. estimate if you write everyday around 35-50gb, your SSD still could last 10 years. is it not enough for you? probably in 5 years time you already change your SSD to new bigger capacity or buy new computer already.

+2
The life of SSD depends on the flash type, SLC's life is longer than MLC, but SLC is faster and expensive [1]
P/E cycle, most ssd has 3k of programming/erase cycle, only few of them has 5k, eg the Kingston hyperx ssd, also more expensive, although normal ssd already have longer life unless you put them on server(lot more read/write).
SSD has no mechanical part and you dont have worry bout head crash[2], or mechanical part failure, if you accidentally dropped/kicked your pc/laptop, its a lot better than traditional hdd tongue.gif

Always make a scheduled backup by using your old hdd ect, even though ssd has higher endurance, their chance of failure sometimes is unpredictable.

I remember someone said on Anandtech: "Using ssd but worry bout its life, its like drive a ferrari buy worry bout the gasoline mileage" sweat.gif

Hmm... if it *is not* Samsung 830...

which one is a better ?

Kingston HyperX SSD or Corsair Force GT?

Already spent $$$ upgrading GPU and sound card, so why not on an SSD... He he.

My hard disk is a super normal 500Gb WD.

Honestly, both of them are the same just with a different casing, colors and stickers.
Both still utilizing Sandforce 2281 controller. Benchmark wise, the HyperX is faster overall due to better firmwares from Kingston.

Agree, and the firmware is so important to a SSD.

But ouch... mine is a SATA2 and not SATA3 (i7 870 1156 processor). Do these SSDs really use upto 6Gbps bandwidth? Not planning on ditching my mainboard... let my processor 'kaput' as I have OCed it stable at 4GHz... tongue.gif

SATA3 device on a SATA2 = runs at SATA2 I bet...

You are correct in the bolded part
The fastest desktop SATA 6GB/s SSD(pcie ssd is different story i think) performance is read 550MByte/s and write 510MByte/s, which is close to SATA 6GB/s (600MBtye per second, according to wikipedia) limit already.

Sever-grade SSDs uses more than 6Gbps of bandwidth. But for the mainstream market, most tops out at the 500+MB/s mark (unless in RAID0).
Not like it matters much, trust me you wouldn't feel the difference running a SSD on SATA2 or on SATA3.

Unless you are all about benchmarks or plenty of file transfer-related activities (which I don't think you are, just a gamer from what I remember), then no, SATA2 or SATA3 does not matter.

Get the SSD, it's the best upgrade you can have on a computer.
