I'm planning to buy 120/128GB SSD for my laptop. Going to use it for long hours everyday. Can anyone recommend me between these drives which one suit me well:
1. 128GB OCZ Vertex 4
2. 120GB Sandisk Extreme
3. 128GB Crucial M4

SSD will be use for installing Windows and frequently use apps. Files will be stored on SATA disk.

I am a noob in SSD. Appreciate some help.
I am getting a new laptop, and plan to swap the HDD out with a SSD.
I read some reviews, and Samsung 830 always come near the top in term of reliability / performance.
Yet I could not seems to find any retails of this drive in LYP (there are some OEM version in garage sale). Is there a reason for this? smile.gif or I just don't know where to look? tongue.gif

If you want to buy Samsung SSD, look for storm88. I bought mine from him last week. Very good seller.

I have the same problem, Samsung SSD seems like the best, but i watched some youtube videos, it seems that the Intel benchmark is better than it, however when comparing bootspeed and application loading time, samsung stands out, making me totally lost.

Lots of retailers in lowyat are selling intel, but hardly see any for samsung. any special reason?

Edit: I'm comparing the Samsung 830 128Gb vs the Intel 520 120GB

Read review about real world performance.. you are not buying SSD to do benchmark.. same like car.. some car can go faster but do you drive at maximum speed everyday?

If you notice, Samsung SSD is among the top rated for Read Speed but a bit low on Write Speed compare to others.. but for me the write speed for Samsung SSD is quite fast.. I completed my Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 installation in 8 minutes. Boot up my laptop in 13 seconds before optimize.. Now boot up is 12 seconds. And I haven't completely tweak my Windows for SSD optimization..

if you can wait, wait for samsung 840 pro. its performance improvements from 830 are significant.

Samsung 840 Pro has some improvement in term of performance. But according to Samsung website, the performance is not to much different. Plus the price for 128GB SSD is $189.99 = RM589.00.

If you can afford the Intel 520 SSD, go for it.. better in performance.. Intel SSD is reliable, not to worry about the performance.. plus Intel 520 comes with 5-years warranty.. peace of mind..

Just got my Intel 520 yesterday, ran some benchmark, the read speed seems normal, but the write speed seems to be capped at 485mb/s any ideas?

Sequential Read / Write (up to)
550 MB/s / 500 MB/s
Source: Intel SSD 520 Series

Your write speed is very fast already.. almost reach it's limit (500mb/s).. U need more speed? Do you always write data with file size bigger than 485mb? Other people write speed only between 200-350mb/s and consider fast already..

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Oct 12 2012, 03:01 PM)
Why get a Corsair Force GT 240GB when its priced at RM759 when a Crucial M4 256GB can be had for RM650?
There is no Intel 330 240GB, but there is for the 520 series and that costs RM780. Not worth it.

According to storm88 on his earlier post, he can get a Samsung 830 256GB at sub RM650, that's a no brainer right there.

In terms of performance, it has been repeated numurous times already. They do not matter under the usage of gaming, day-to-day basis applications (internet and what not) and windows/applications boot time.

The difference between them is so insignificant that anything one would "feel" is simply just a placebo effect.

If you are doing a lot of real-time video encoding, recording or processing thousands (literally, thousands I mean) of RAW photos, then the extra bandwidth comes in play. But otherwise, forget the numbers. Get the one which is of the best value and reliability.

Good advice. About the performance thing, yeah, I guess you're right. I have not been in an SSD discussion before so I didn't really know the performance would be so insignificant. I'll hunt around for a good deal... for at least 240/256Gb size. The Samsung one sounds good.

Agreed on that.. No need to spend to much on getting the SSD.. price definitely will become cheaper sooner.. and afraid you will regret spending to much on it.. Find the SSD that is more reliable..

i can wait 840 pro feedback resuit any problem blue screen
i can wait no problem
*
what is your budget for the SSD? can you elaborate more on faster pc that u need? in term of what?

* For Crucial M4 user on UEFI bios, do not upgrade to the latest firmware (010G) as it might cause your bios not able to detect your SSD.

Have you done SSD optimization on your SSD? Please refer to 1st page and do the optimization.. there is some power option need to be done also.. if the problem still persist, i suggest you do full backup and send it for RMA.. while it still under warranty..

you can clone your old hard disk and restore it to your SSD.. but if you can do fresh install, it's much better..

There are few registry entries that you need to modify, but backup your registry first in case need to restore the old settings.

what version lates now we can check if still same firmware i show u my screenshot
i already to do HDTUNE scan ssd no red alll is green no error
my ssd is intel 320 80gb

i can do reformat again if still problem
*
If you gonna reinstall your windows again, do not format it.. use the disk wipe utility.. this will completely erase all the data.. remember this is SSD where data is stored in flash not like traditional hard disk where data is stored in magnetic disk..

must to do first disk wipe utility then i put windows 7 dvd then do i need press format ???

since you still getting error after reinstall your windows, you can try to do secure erase. for intel ssd, you can use the tool found here --> http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...Y&DwnldID=18455

but, ssd must be secondary drive, not OS drive in order to use this method..

then still same problem again
this first disk wipe utility i naver to do
do i need must to do first disk wipe utility then i put windows 7 dvd then do i need press format ???
*
in normal situation, u can just format your ssd and install windows 7. but since this method is not working for you, i suggest you take out your ssd and put into pc which has windows in it. make your ssd as secondary drive. install the wipe utility and use the wipe utility to wipe out your ssd. if it still not working, just send you ssd for warranty claim.

will there be any issues if i clone my OS partition into the SSD directly? i lazy want to format -> install OS -> install driver -> install program, thats about 60gb things to do
*
this question has been asked few times already it this thread. i'm pretty sure you are lazy to reinstall your OS since you are also lazy to find the answer for your question. tongue.gif

you can clone your disk, but you need to do some tweaking on your windows as some feature will not enable such as TRIM support.. other than than, superfetch & prefetch will not be disable by windows. this only applicable to Windows 7. If you perform clean install of your windows 7, by default once it detect you OS disk is SSD, TRIM support will be enabled. prefetch & superfetch will be disable..

after all it's your choice. good luck.
