Xero as in xero wheels? i don't think they make hubs.. they actually partner with formula engineering to produce their hubs as far as i know...

And why not? I've seen pros use CAAD10.

Actually a Mavic mechanic van full of Ksyriums and Cosmic Carbones came to my friend's bike shop and let people try them out. I puasa but still rode 26 miles on these, the dehydration is worth it rclxub.gif thumbup.gif

My only warmup last night is riding at slow speed but high gear (leg rotating fast but speed is slow). Is that the wrong way?!

Is heat spray substitute for warm up or just reviler when the muscle suddenly cramp?

My left leg muscle abit sprained edi, today is a rest day for me doh.gif

Yea I'm surprised they trusted me not to 'disappear' from the group with their RM11,000 wheels.

The Mavic van very clever, they like to poison people. No way I could afford them. I'm still with the 1576g, $260 Vuelta Corsa Lites. Even with S-works tires and tubes it feels sooo heavy now.

Recently I checked out your suggestion of building my own wheels and came across some KinLin from this website: http://fairwheelbikes.com/rims-road-rims-c...fbf2d055cad78a7

Maybe hubs from: http://c-4shop.com/

the same i told miaopurr... the choice for me is between bikehubstore.com (in US, think north carolina or something like that) and bdopcycling.com (in taiwan)...

but since you are in the US... bikehubstore, fairwheelbikes, wheelbuilder.com, prowheelbuilder.com is all within your reach...

i think fairwheelbikes have a lot of fancy stuff like extralite and tune hubs...if you like fancy spokes like white sapim cx-rays and DT aerolite.. they have it too... practically boutique stuff if you ask me..

in terms of cheaper options, i'd say bikehubstore... free delivery within US as far as i know.. not sure if all states...the good thing with them is that they have this crazy taiwanese hubs... the front is called superlight wide... very light @ under 85 grams and very wide... even wider than the Zipp 88's.. something like 78mm wide vs 74 or 76mm on the zipp...

i would have preferred lacing them spoke elbow out on my set, but i struggle (or too chicken) to force the spoke into those angle... and my specially bought DT spoke head puncher was wasted as i didn't know how to use it properly...and they use Enduro bearings too... don't think it's the highest grade... but hopefully something like the ABEC5 grades... definitely a try if you are on a budget... they don't build your wheels though...

the only complaints is their hubs don't have thicker axles like 17mm on the king hubs... i think they still run on 15mms... it should make for a stiffer hub...

and reputation... i would say wheelbuilder.com... they are very famous for professionally built wheels...i've had some mail conversations with them before... unfortunately their price was a bit too stiff for me and they only have the more famous and expensive hubs like CK, White Industries, DT 180/190/240s (and this are the cheap ones) which are too costly for me...

all 3 i believe have kinlin rims as kinlin is quite a famous rim for being cheap and lightweight... if you are light enough and need a shallow wheel... they even have a XR-200 i think that drops below 400grams per rim... i prefer the middle ground XR-270s...

only advise i can give is to buy nipples washers to use with the kinlins since they do not have eyelets in them... this should make the rim tougher to crack under high spoke tensions...

i remember an article done by Lennard on wheelbuilder and it's owner Rich Sawiris... a very interesting article if you appreciate hand builds...

Technical FAQ with Lennard Zinn: Wheelbuilder extraordinaire Rich Sawiris

don't even understand why the BMX is an olympic games event all of a sudden...

all i can say is the man knows his wheel building.. nipple cream (don't think naughty things here), park tools, spoke punchers, levering the spokes to sit the elbows and spoke heads...

Ohh... sorry.. Helios 100.. i misread as Helios F100, the flatbar hybrid...

not sure if the price is like that.. but a new one definitely will only costs around RM1.8k - RM2k...

give rodalink a quick call to check the retail price of a new bike...

Rodalink Hartamas - 15 Jalan 23/70A, Desa Sri Hartamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur. 03-6201 0422
Rodalink Putrajaya – No 22, Jalan Diplomatik, Presint 15, Putrajaya. 03-8889 2822
Rodalink Bangsar - 56, Jalan Telawi, Bangsar Baru, 59100, Kuala Lumpur. 03-2287 1022
Rodalink Bandar Botanic – No 93 Jalan Mahogani, 5/KS7 Ambang Botanic,, 41200 Klang. 03-3325 9403

make your decision after you find out the price of a new bike...

even then.. there is 2 problems to it.. you are not sure if the size is right for you... and bike is in kuching... you don't want to bet on long range transportation for bikes.. not cool if the owner does not know how to pack a bike for transportation...

even then... try to spend a bit more to get the 10speed tiagra if possible... 9-speed is just a bit too yesteryear for me...

QUOTE(butthead @ Aug 9 2012, 09:18 AM)
if you compare FR3 and the Amain-T RD30 black version which is only 30 grams lighter.. i think it's not a whole lot of difference... this is 1 lesson i learned long ago that wheel claim weight is not everything...

if the majority of the weight is centered on the rim... you will find it harder to spin up but maintains momentum like miaopurr says and vice versa... that looks to be the case on the amain-T as it has a 31mm rim compared to the 24mm on the fulcrum...

an example was one of my previous set of wheels... the Xero XSR-1... a funky paired spoke wheel.. claimed weight is well under 1600 grams... but it is hard to spin up as the rim is bulked up due to having 2 spoke holes at the same spot of the rim (unlike most paired spoke wheels, and i do mean exact same spot as in side by side) thus they have to make those places with thicker walls and resulted in a heavier rim...  i think they managed to shave weight using a lighter hub and also helped by the lighter DT revolution spokes... on the contrary, my next wheel the SRAM S27 was listed as heavier but spun up smoother as the S27 rim was practically a set of rebranded kinlin 27mm niobium rims (rumor)... so the weight is more balanced out between the hub and rims making it a set that is considerably easy to spin up...

at the end of the day... it does boil down to what you want to do with the wheel... if you are the aggresive attacking type of climber... the wheel with less rotational mass is preferred... if you ride flats at speed a lot... the amain-T will serve it's purpose since it's more aero and the slight dent in spin up performance can be negated...

ohhh.. ok... they say assumption is the mother of all fakups... now you know why blush.gif

still.. give it a check and see... you dun wanna be overpaying... maybe the price in kuching and KL is different and that is the reality that you have to expect... RM1.8k would get a sora equiped new bike here in KL at least i would say...

haha....can't believe the crap i wrote actually made sense to anyone, can't even understand it myself when i read it back... that's the blardy difference work does to you 7-8 hours later, brain turned into mash potatoes (waiting for the milk and lumps of butter to be poured on and stirred to creamy consistency, evidence that i am quite the hungry at this point in time of posting that i will gnaw on my own brain)

24mm and 31mm???... 7mm difference lar... a ruler will tell you that... jus kiddin..

as i say.. it all depends on what you ride more... flats or road going skywards? and choose your wheels accordingly.. that is why there are climbing wheels and aero wheels as differentiation... and a kind of wheels known as the "not up not down" category like the Zipp 303... not aero fully... but also not the lightest possible... and totally meant for the un-decided and fickle minded riders... or was designed by the bastards who are sick and tired of their mates always complaining of losing touch with the group due to bringing the wrong set of wheels to the wrong route... anyways... bike stuff is as confusing as women... i wish there is a instructional guide too... but there is jus none... and that is plain frustrating... ain't it hard enough to court girls... now we have to deal with life choices when choosing a damn hoop??? WTF!!! (ok... too dramatic... tone it down)

if you find no clear directions.. jus go with the force your heart...

actually.... measurement always exists... like the recent MTB 29" / 29ner fad... and then the 27"/650b or something like that... jus those asswipes using different measurement system to make shit sound more sophisticated...

sheldon brown distilled quite most of his knowledge onto his site... he might be gone today.. but his knowledge new or outdated continues living in some server somewhere in "god knows where"

http://www.sheldonbrown.com/

not the most techno junkie material... but... it'll do fine for now...
