HWOAHhhh...vin_ann got some moderator friends... better shut my trap before kena permaban  blink.gif

dropping an alu frame below 8 kilos might be a though thing to do unless you are mortal enemies with your wallet... wats the weight of your rig now? a good set of wheels like the FR0 might see a 400 gram drop at max from your aksium race.. and that is a RM3k investment easy..

carbonize your cockpit and maybe shave another 300+ grams away.. but another RM2k thinner on your wallet..

at the end of the day... you'll be better off selling yours and getting vin_ann's nobita bullying aluminum giant that is already around 8kilos in stock form and with 105 groupie... or some fancy carbon bike...
*
Hehe.. He even my ~ 10 -15 yrs Junior in TARC haha biggrin.gif Right now at 8.5KG, dropping 400gm wth wheelset upgrade for sure can get 8.1kg and another upgrade on handlebar & stem will probably get me 7.9kg liao haha

At this age, more like going for value for money gaya-ing haha... Wanna go far but still lack of stamina...Switching from MTB to Road bike wth 2 purposes - going far & lighter bike rclxms.gif My previous best on MTB is riding from Puchong to Teluk Gong meeting that MTB guy - Chyu89 haha.. yeah... i was going to say FR1 (sked offend mr.jgx tongue.gif ) as well cause the FR0 does not offer much difference except for a lighter carbon hub shell and the use of USB ceramic bearings... the problem is that the price difference is not that huge... only around RM300-RM400 if i am not wrong...

the new FR3 (this years model) is also definitely not a bad choice from the view of weight alone... but you sacrifice certain things like stiffness of the FR1 and FR0.. and this is something which you can really feel if you are a pedal stomper...

i think even FR3 is not by any means cheap... around RM1.7k to RM1.8k...
*
I my mind now= 2nd hand blush.gif :

1) Mavic Ksyium
2) Dura -ace wheel
3) Fulcrum 1-3

Did my first 20km today. Was riding well then suddenly my left leg cramp and i had to stop beside but then i lost my balance when stopping/unclip i fell down the wrong side, got stuck on the ground as all my muscle suddenly cramp and i cant move. Random ppl stop by to pull me up. nothing big deal apart from minor cut on my left elbow and muslce stiffen up and cramp.

Perhaps need some kind of warm up prior to riding?

Manged to get home safely tho biggrin.gif
*
Reminded me of years ago when I started MTB..... yeah got my 1st cramp too ~ 20+ km... blush.gif .. The more you ride the better you get rclxms.gif

well... if you are convinced with what you read... the only thing left is to place your faith on it..

that 2 videos has nothing much to convince me about the brand... really..
*
Still considering-lah...Let me goto that shop and compare wth his fulcrum 3 1st biggrin.gif .. If Fulcrum 3 spin easier & smoother compare wth this amain-T, I will get FR3, if not AmainT.. FR3 is slightly heavier than this amaint!

QUOTE(butthead @ Aug 9 2012, 09:18 AM)
if you compare FR3 and the Amain-T RD30 black version which is only 30 grams lighter.. i think it's not a whole lot of difference... this is 1 lesson i learned long ago that wheel claim weight is not everything...

if the majority of the weight is centered on the rim... you will find it harder to spin up but maintains momentum like miaopurr says and vice versa... that looks to be the case on the amain-T as it has a 31mm rim compared to the 24mm on the fulcrum...

an example was one of my previous set of wheels... the Xero XSR-1... a funky paired spoke wheel.. claimed weight is well under 1600 grams... but it is hard to spin up as the rim is bulked up due to having 2 spoke holes at the same spot of the rim (unlike most paired spoke wheels, and i do mean exact same spot as in side by side) thus they have to make those places with thicker walls and resulted in a heavier rim...  i think they managed to shave weight using a lighter hub and also helped by the lighter DT revolution spokes... on the contrary, my next wheel the SRAM S27 was listed as heavier but spun up smoother as the S27 rim was practically a set of rebranded kinlin 27mm niobium rims (rumor)... so the weight is more balanced out between the hub and rims making it a set that is considerably easy to spin up...

at the end of the day... it does boil down to what you want to do with the wheel... if you are the aggresive attacking type of climber... the wheel with less rotational mass is preferred... if you ride flats at speed a lot... the amain-T will serve it's purpose since it's more aero and the slight dent in spin up performance can be negated...
seems like you are paying for a totally new bike + healthy tips
you saved someone's wallet today.... honorary hero of the day  rclxms.gif

Wow.. rclxms.gif One bloody gooding write-up & detail explanation.. I really dunno how to differentiate between a 31mm rim & 24mm rim at all.. coming from MTB days.. I only know 1 size 26" common MTB rim haha blush.gif biggrin.gif ...Wehn comes to road bike, rims jargong changed to 700C-23 pulak and got myself confused and thereafter sumore blur-blur on tnhat 31mm & 24mm measurement..damn noob man..paisehh blush.gif icon_question.gif

guys, any reason why exitwat is not good? coz i was confused some shop owner prefer exitway than polygon, the owner claimed he got few of customers claiming warranty for leaking frame of polygon bike and he stop selling polygon brands.
*
Exitway is very new in the market.. I only heard of it few years ago circ 2009 onwards and I think started by Ipoh based co http://www.gccycle.com/index.php/company/about-us

Whereas polygon is already here for years now. In M'sia by Lerun which is also a subsidiary of Polygon after bought over by Indonesian. and their dedicated Rodalink showroom http://www.polygoncycle.com/

Anyway, I dun really go for which one good brand.. I go for the groupset, the wheels, the fork, & etc and must be value for money and the lighthest for whatever budget I willing to fork out blush.gif

You just click few link and it will lead you to that Ipoh factory.. I suspect that's the factory for Exitway liao lor biggrin.gif

http://www.exitway.com/index.php?option=co...id=52&Itemid=74

The US, address is just a common trick by lotsa website trying to tell ppl they are US based... I suspect my latest wheelset upgrade (Amain-T) also the same. Having the story about their US origin (Probably fake) but actually factory in Taichung, Taiwan laugh.gif

shocking.gif  shocking find, but nvrtheless, i am going to ride the bike in trainer mode and hopefully it fits my body well. btw thks very much for this info, really broaden my knowledge of cycling. Wanna ask if want change the cassette need around how much, i will be starting with 8 speed first then if i feel there is really practical need for 10 speed i might save moolah in the future for 10 speed upgrade.
*
From my past experiences wth MTB, you better spend more on getting a 10 speed now rather than spending more for the upgrades. The parts will not be cheap for sure.

When I started MTB in mid 2000, I spent RM800+ for my SARS bike wth 8X3 gears.. a year later I started to change the gear to Deore 9 X3, changed blingsX2, changed V-brake to hydraulic brakes & lastly changed my wheelset to American classic.. Now my RM800+ MTB after those upgrade added up to ~ RM4K liao blush.gif

If you buy a reasonable good 10 gear bike, you no need to worry about future upgrade dy...you almost there except the later blingX2 such as carbon here & there haha biggrin.gif

i see, will 10 speed be an overkill? for beginner

Easier to cycle uphill lor esp going to the max 10 bigger rear wheel biggrin.gif & smallest compact front front crankset. If you lack no of gear, going uphill.. be prepared to get cramp for 1st timer haha..That's why sometime, MTB going uphill much easier bcos got much smaller front gears ( 3 compare to road bike bigger 2 gears cranks)

If less gears or bigger front crank - naik bukit can be like heh-heh wan biggrin.gif and furthermore u are new to biking
