I download an apps called learn japanese lite..got simple phrase n it also teach how to pronounce it..hehe..another important thing is to have a map coz most of the local i asked for direction, they will ask for map.so easy for them to point out.the thing is,they want to help but they cant speak in englush.hey cant even say right or left..so its easier to juz ask them to pint the place on ur map..

Speaking simple japanese doesnt help much but they encourage the locl to help us..hehe..i like the way they smile when i say arigato..hehe

Hi guys,a few question to ask:

Base on Japan time zone.

10am - Arrive from Kansai Airport

10.30 - Nankai airport line

12.30 – Reach Kyoto station

13.00 – Reach Hotel (near Kyoto station)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 1

Ginkakuji Temple (Silver Pavilion) - Direct bus number 5, 17 or 100 from Kyoto Station in about 35-40 minutes and for 220 yen one way, get off @ Ginkakuji-michi.

Tetsugakunomichi (Philosopher's Path) - Walking distance from Ginkakuji Temple

Eikando temple - Walking distance from Philosopher's Path

Nanzenji Temple - Walking distance from Eikando temple

Kiyomizudera Temple - How to travel from Nazenji Temple to Kiyomizudera Temple??

Yasaka Shrine - From Kiyomizudera Temple walk through the narrow lanes of the Higashiyama District to Yasaka Shrine in about 20-30mins.

Gion/Shinbashi - Walking distance from Yasaka Shrine

Pontocho - From Gion walking distance to Pontocho??

Kyoto Station - From Pontocho take train frm Kawaramachi Station (Hankyu Line) / Shijo Station (Keihan Line)

Question:

1) How to travel from Nazenji Temple to Kiyomizudera Temple??

2) From Gion walking distance to Pontocho??

3) Kiyomizudera Temple are under construction, so should be ok to go right? Close at 6pm, will I be able to reach according to my plan?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 2

Ryoanji - From Kyoto Station take bus ride directly by JR Bus, the bus ride takes about 30mins, cost 220yen.

Kinkakuji Temple(Golden Pavilion) - Est. 20mins Walking distance from Ryoanji. Can take bus? if yes, what are the bus no to take?

Arashiyama (Tenryuji, bamboo shrub, etc) - From Kinkakuji-mae bus no.59 to YamagoeNakacho change to bus no.11

Kyoto Station - From Arashiyama on the subway line to Shijo Omiya Station, then?

Question:

Arashiyama back Kyoto station - From Arashiyama on the subway line to Shijo Omiya Station, then?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 3

Nishiki Market - Take subway to Shijo Station on the Karasuma Subway Line (4mins, 200 yen frm Kyoto Station)

Nijo Castle - From Shijo Satioin to Karasuma-Oike Sation and transfer to Tozai Line to Nijojo-mae Station.

Toei Kyoto Studio Park - From Nijojo-mae to Uzumasa-Tenjingawa Station, then walk to Toei Kyoto Studio Park? or take bus?

Kyoto Tower (Walking distance)

Kyoto Station Building (Walking distance)

Question:

Toei Kyoto Studio Park - From Uzumasa-Tenjingawa Station, walk to Toei Kyoto Studio Park? or take bus/taxi?

Alternative: How am I going to travel about on the Randen Arashiyama Link?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 4 (15th Oct, Mon)

Breakfast

From Kyoto Station to Namba(Subway) - Take JR Special Rapid Service ( ¥540, 23mins), arrvial @ Shin-Osaka track no.16, take Osaka City Subway Midosuji Line to Namba (¥270, 15mins)

Above all, understand i have a lot of walking to be done on Day 1, for the other 2 days? should I be taking the Kansai Thru Pass? Only can purchase once?

or: Kyoto Sightseeing Card, Surutto Kansai Card, Miyako Card?

I will still be travelling from Osaka area for the next 6days.

Kaven: I was only in Kyoto for two very short days, but hope this helps.

Day 1:
Q1 - From the bus route map I have (get that when you reach your hotel, super useful), from Nanzenji/Eikando-michi bus stop, take Bus no 5 to Higashiyama Sanjo then take bus 100/206 to Kiyomizu-michi.
Q3 - Yea, went there 3 days ago. It will be an uphill climb from the bus stop, and a lot of shops/cafes along the way. And though it's under construction, there is a nice view of Kyoto at the top.

Tip: Most of the buses there run on a flat rate, so it's 220 yen always (110 yen for kids). If you're planning to travel by bus a lot, get the day pass @ 500 yen. If you want to pay the 220, make sure you have the exact change.

I also highly recommend joining the Walking Tour in Kyoto. There are two, one for Kyoto and one for Gion (night time). I went for the Gion one, and learnt so much. I wasn't around for the Kyoto one, but I wished I had. Price-wise, it's pretty good as well. Gion's 1000 yen and Kyoto's 2000 yen. (Link: http://waraido.com/walking/index.html).

Related, Nishiki Market is very close to Gion, so if in any case you need to shift your plans, you could do Nishiki just before going to Gion.

You can make the change in the bus if you cannot find anyone to change with. There's a machine beside the driver where you can put as large as 1000 yen and it will vomit out those coins lol.

Make a back-up plan just in case it rains quite heavily. I went to Kinkanguji while raining but a lot of people do not care, just go there with umbrealla on.

Oh nice! Ingat tak boleh... was there too short of a time. Oh, also, in Kyoto, enter the bus from the back and pay when you get off at the front.

Agree with back-up plans. You could still go for it with a decent umbrella. When I was in Kyoto/Osaka, we got encik typhoon lol but Kinkakuji still have many people. Oblivionz, were you there during then oso?

If you don't like going out when wet, some covered areas I know are Nishiki-market and Kyoto station is nice to explore oso. Upstairs (10F and 11f) a lot of nom places. 10F got ramen galore.

Also, onsen/public bath is kinda awesome when it's rainy and cold. Funaoka Onsen is nearby Kinkakuji. (Get off the Funaokayama bus stop)

I went to Kinkakuji around 18th of September. I already know it was raining due to the forecast the previous day, i was like hesitate wanted to go there or not cause I am going from Osaka to Kyoto, will waste around 1 hour time to reach there. But I just went there and apparently I saw there were still a lot of people there as well even though it is raining.

I walk from Kinkakuji to Ryoanjin temple. And it was raining, so my shoes were all wet lol. If you like to walk, then you should do it. It takes around 15 min to reach there i guess?

Guys,

I'm planning my honeymoon next year April (hehe). Planning to start at Osaka and work my way East and finish in Tokyo. Trip should be about 7-8 days.

Generally speaking, it would make more sense for me to fly directly into Osaka, and fly back from Tokyo, right? Seeing as shinkansen tickets itself already rm500 if I were to do a return-trip ticket to either location.

Day 1
Question:

1) How to travel from Nazenji Temple to Kiyomizudera Temple??
There are 2 ways to reach Kiyomizudera, by bus or by foot. You may tune your itinerary from Nanzenji, then walk down to Chion-in Temple, Maruyama Park, Yasaka Shrine, Kodaiji Temple, Ninenzaka & Sennenzaka, Kiyomizudera. You may skip some of the places.
2) From Gion walking distance to Pontocho??
Yes.
3) Kiyomizudera Temple are under construction, so should be ok to go right? Close at 6pm, will I be able to reach according to my plan?
Should be just fine if you start early morning.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 2
Question:

Arashiyama back Kyoto station - From Arashiyama on the subway line to Shijo Omiya Station, then?
Before this, i suggest you visit kinkakuji the first in the morning in order to avoid the crowd.
Why dont you use JR line? Kindly refer below.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 4 (15th Oct, Mon)

IMHO, Kyoto attractions can be reach easily via bus and it's quite frequent. Buy the All-day bus pass instead, besides saving, you can enjoy the scenery in Kyoto and seeing the lifestyle of Kyoto's ppl.
My Kyoto trip is full on Bus & Foot.

my experience with the Kyoto buses was very good - punctual and easy to get around. Many of the attractions are much more accessible by buses.

I prefer you juz get the 7days JRP (RM 1000++ for ordinary class and RM 1400++ for Green Class) since you wanna travel Osaka, East of Japan and finish in Tokyo. when u got JRP, all JR transportation services are FREE. (correct if i'm wrong). It is really worth to get JRP, i planned to get 1 when I go to Japan. smile.gif

You only balik modal if you use the shinkansen minimum twice long distance as from kyoto/shin-osaka to tokyo is just 13kyen, while the jrpass is 28.3kyen

you can consider some stop along the way at nagoya and shizuoka.
Or even rountrip back on shinkansen back to kansai.
*Please check the air ticket price 1st as i think if buying roundtrip is cheaper than buying 1 way tix return.

*i bought a HND->KUL oneway and it states 17kyen. But when i check a roundtrip tix KUL->HND->KUL, the return part HND->KUL is in MYR and its rm516(promo) =__= . Seems promo is only applicable to MY folks as maybe it was assuming im a foreigner from JP since i bought 1 way tix from there doh.gif

----
checked back. my return tix is indeed promo too, but 17k yen promo. maybe to jp-folks 17kyen is cheap sweat.gif

yup that map is good enough.

wat i experience is that Raku Bus (no. 100, 101 and 102) tend to be more crowded since its specialized for tourists, while those normal number services are better.

Salute you. I walk from Kinkakuji to Ryoanji as well. Really tiring. But it is really a good chance to see how they live. In the middle of the journey, there is a school, and you can see those kids really walk to school, some get on to buses and some cycle. Really like those in the movies

At that time, it was raining, so i didn't see much people around. I was following a brochure's guide and telling me to walk from there, i didn't think much and just walk.

17k yen for flight ticket is fxxxking cheap for Japanese. Do you know from Haneda to Osaka Itami Airport by ANA or JAL are 35k yen. Per way on normal pirce.

Haneda to Okinawa Naha Airport by JAL or ANA are 68k yen
