QUOTE(DEVILtonight @ Aug 24 2012, 07:59 PM) Sharing my rough itinerary for mid-March till early April 2013. Suggestions are welcomed! I'm trying to figure out if it's doable within my budget... RM8-10k, and if the time allocated is reasonable. if you can pull these off, i'm waiting for ur journal logging.> Land in Tokyo-Haneda Shinjuku crossroad, Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara, Takeshita Doori, Yoyogi, Tsukiji Fish Mart, Ghibli Studio, meet Couchsurfing folks for tea Day trips from Tokyo: 1) Kamakura (Hiking: Daibutsu & Ten-en) 2) Ome (Retro town) 3) Meguro Shizen Kyoikuen (Hiking & Soba) (Total days in Tokyo: 7-9 days) ------------------------ > Takayama (via bus) Hida Folk Village, Sanmachi, Takayama Jinya. Day trip from Takayama: 1) Shirakawa-go (Total days in Takayama: 2-3 days) ------------------------- > Osaka(via bus) I want to try something different here. My plan is to join WWOOF - voluntary work in a farm for 4-6 hours; accommodation and food provided. But will spend a day or two at the end of the trip as a tourist in Osaka; buy souvenirs etc. (Total days in Osaka: at least 12 days) > Kuala Lumpur (via swim, hitchhike... jk, plane.) ================================================= I'm trying to do as much budget as I can here. My goal will be to take photos and observe/absorb the people and culture. Accommodation will be at hostels and a few overnights at the internet cafes. No ryokans or labu hotels for me Also, at the moment I'm solo traveling. Supposed to go with a friend, but clash of schedules. i wish i can do these but its not possible w/ my current job. In osaka, you dont need to limit urself to 7e/familimart/lawson bento as theres lotsa cheap foods there. im not sure bout the details, but i think rm6k minus flight is doable considering you gonna use night bus rather than shinkansen/JRpass. *SUICA only works in Kanto while ICOCA only in Kansai/Osaka n I have no idea what works in Nagoya-Hida For the Hida-Takayama part, aside from taking the bus you can opt to cycle to Shirakawa-go. Nothing much at the Hida-Folk village. But i think their daily activities(including morning market) should be nice. |

QUOTE(DEVILtonight @ Aug 26 2012, 12:37 PM) Thanks for replying, e-jump! Yea, I'm a little worried that I would be unable to pull it off as well, and I don't know if I will manage to find a WWOOF host or not... (and I'm supposed to buy my return ticket by beginning of Oct). In Osaka, they have stores that sell assorted precooked tempura that is placed inside a heater.Yea, working puts a damper in our freedom of time. Like you, I'm working too, but maybe my field is more possible. I'm actually pushing beyond my leave days, and would probably go on unpaid leave. @ Osaka: Cheap food! I like cheap food @ Transport: I'm probably using Nohi bus, and no overnights @ Hida-Takayama: Isn't Shirakawa-go about an hour away? I wouldn't mind going for that... but thinking of the bike rental fees lol! Sounds like an adventure tho... have you tried? So like how you go bakery here n pick breads on ur tray n go pay at counter, u pick tempura.. price like depends on what you pick, but its as cheap as konbini bento after few picks. Some supermarket have this too. I dont find this kind of option in Tokyo though (maybe i look at the wrong places). You can also observe where those contractor workers get their lunch bento. Also, you can eat at Tenya, Sukiya, Yoshinoya etc etc for under 1k yen food set. I went to Hida-Takayama last feb, so its snow everywhere n biking not recommended. I believe the staff at the hostel mentioned it, or i was reading off website. Reason is, the Hida<->Shirakawago buses is not frequent as theres hours gap, so if you cycle u can go free n easy. Besides, its on the Alps so the temp should be single digit ![]() Glowing village of Hida by e-jump, on Flickr |

QUOTE(zstan @ Sep 4 2012, 11:34 PM) well.. if i go to osaka and take a bullet train back for my flight it will be very expensive as well.. taking bus may be cheaper but it's gonna cost me a day too. simplecalculate and sum it up. compare see whether depart from diff airport, or shinkansen/nightbus/flight back to same arrival airport is cheaper and cost/time efficient. no one can do/decide it for you coz its subjective when its cost+time |

QUOTE(tyhuang @ Sep 7 2012, 10:27 AM) Guys..im at japan now staying in horidome..i nesrly fainted looking at the price..i wana ask u if the hotel tab water can drink onot? Means in the toilet room lo... chill bro.when u buy food, dont convert to RM, or u'll be easing 2 plate sushi only or a stick of dango. As long u can find food set circa 700yen that is cheap. n as phyzz said, boil the water, n refill ur bottle. thats what i always do. Go konbini (best if u can find 100yen shop) n stock ur food supplies. they come in handy when u miss ur dinner etc |

QUOTE(johnchew91 @ Sep 14 2012, 09:51 AM) Do LYN Club Japan have any 8/7 days suggested itinerary for Traveling Tokyo? You can try the shinkansen and go to Mishima as well.I will be there at mid Nov..Plan to visit most of the tourist places in Tokyo & Mt.Fuji. Would like to take tour to Mt.Fuji.. I only travel around Tokyo. Therefore, would definitely wanna try out bullet train to Mt.Fuji. http://www.viator.com/tours/Tokyo/Mt-Fuji-...42TYO_F800_F820 Is this tour worth it? I havent been to mt.Fuji, so i hope this weekend i can come up with a 1D1N Fuji itinerary. Just finished planning for my Hokuriku-Gifu route plan. Hope no bad weather » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(dark_paladin @ Sep 15 2012, 09:35 AM) Guys..now in Kyoto..just a simple question..is it possible to buy shinkansen tickets in any station? Or just Kyoto Station? Should i buy in advancd or on the spot?better reserved or just gamble with the unreserved seats? Oppss..3 questions there..the shikansen is to tokyo You can buy shinkansen tix at any shinkansen station. If you want a preserved seat, you may consider buy in advance, but i dont think this week is major holiday. If you want to be cheap, you can try first-come-first-serve non-reserved car at 1-5. If theres empty seat, u get the seat |

QUOTE(dark_paladin @ Sep 15 2012, 07:25 PM) please take note where you want to go on the Shinkansen. You can take the Kodama or Hikari, but obviously Kodama will be slower as it will stop at every station while Hikari skips lots of station. Make use of the Hyperdia tool to have your Hikari+Kodama combo http://www.hyperdia.com/en/ |

Does it matter if I did not apply 3g here, will it still work? when i go to jp, it will roam on NTT and softbank on 3.5G. i cant seem to remember whats the charges, but should be like rm2 per minit or something. i didnt call long, just few mins per night just to update my parents im still alive, for 15days |

QUOTE(DEVILtonight @ Sep 17 2012, 10:49 PM) Quick question! I'm planning to bring some Malaysian snacks, like ice cream biscuits/crunchy potato fries/dodol, on my carry on. Is this allowed? packed should be ok i guess, as they dont really check if its not susupicious when go thru xray.Note: It's to share with fellow hostel-ers, not makan in the plane. Edit: Asking here, cuz heading there >< but its best just put in lugguage, sure no issue. |

QUOTE(Ultimaweapon @ Sep 19 2012, 08:56 AM) Hey guys, i doubt you will have issuesI just had to ask this out of curiosity. With the dispute between China and Japan now, I wonder what is the chances of the Japanese Kastam, denying the "Permission to Land" on the basis that you're Chinese from Malaysia although having zero relations / ties with Mainland China or zero support for China? It would definitely be shame to have obtained the visa but yet denied entry into the country most people know china chinese != other place chinese. however its best to start googling just in case someone blog it out bout this issue |
