QUOTE(lowyatter @ Jul 25 2012, 04:58 PM)
I took my GF to Japan in February this year. Airfare + Hotel + Transport + Food (RM80 per person per day), 8N9D.

Combined bill for the 2 of us was ~RM6800. And we were staying at decent hotels.

Went to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Mt.Koya.

Hi guys, which is the best spot for mt fuji? Lake kawaguchiko or Lake yamanakako? or Lake Ashi will do.
Further, is hakone a must visit place since i travel for mt fuji?
FYI, im heading from Kyoto to Tokyo, will stop at hakone/kawaguchi for mt fuji then continue to Tokyo, targeting arrival in tokyo around evening time. But, after I checked the distance and time to travel, im afraid i couldnt make it within 1 day. Any idea, suggestion or experiences?

Also, anything is interesting in kobe? I'm thinking to skip this for additional 1 day at hakone & kawaguchi for mt fuji.

Tq~

Here is my simplified itinerary.

day 00 Midnight flight to osaka
day 01 osaka (arrival early in the morning)
day 02 osaka
day 03 kyoto
day 04 kyoto
day 05 mt fuji/hakone/lake kawaguchi
day 06 lake kawaguchi & tokyo
day 07 tokyo
day 08 tokyo
day 09 tokyo (to osaka at night)
day 10 morning flight to KL

appreciate comment from you all.. smile.gif

My shortlisted place in Tokyo as follows:

1. (reach shinjuku in the afternoon)

- Meiji Jingu Shrine & Yoyogi Park
Shibuya
[Stay around Shinjuku Station?]

2.
Sensoji Temple
- Nakamise Dori
Ueno Park
Akihabara
Ginza
Imperial Palace
- Imperial Palace East Garden (Kyoko Higashi Gyoen)
Tsukiji Market
Tokyo Tower (Nightview)
[Stay around Ginza/Ueno? for 2 days]

3.
Disney Resort
[same hotel before this]

4.
Sightsee Rainbow Bridge

>> Evening time take Shinkansen train back to Osaka and overnight at airport.

So, does my suggestion look convenient? Please advice on where should I base in these days in Tokyo.

Me going end of nov till early dec, during fall foliage time.
Anyone have the self explanatory sample letter? Standard contents like name, ic, passport no., travel period & funds borne by who, is that sufficient?
This letter is for my mum, and she do have savings & funds, does she need to provide ctc bank statement since it already mentioned her expenses will borne by my dad?

QUOTE(kaven1202 @ Oct 2 2012, 11:25 AM)
Day 1
Question:

1) How to travel from Nazenji Temple to Kiyomizudera Temple??
There are 2 ways to reach Kiyomizudera, by bus or by foot. You may tune your itinerary from Nanzenji, then walk down to Chion-in Temple, Maruyama Park, Yasaka Shrine, Kodaiji Temple, Ninenzaka & Sennenzaka, Kiyomizudera. You may skip some of the places.
2) From Gion walking distance to Pontocho??
Yes.
3) Kiyomizudera Temple are under construction, so should be ok to go right? Close at 6pm, will I be able to reach according to my plan?
Should be just fine if you start early morning.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 2
Question:

Arashiyama back Kyoto station - From Arashiyama on the subway line to Shijo Omiya Station, then?
Before this, i suggest you visit kinkakuji the first in the morning in order to avoid the crowd.
Why dont you use JR line? Kindly refer below.
http://www.infomapjapan.com/images/map/Kyo...rain-subway.pdf

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 4 (15th Oct, Mon)
From Kyoto Station to Namba(Subway) - Take JR Special Rapid Service ( ¥540, 23mins), arrvial @ Shin-Osaka track no.16, take Osaka City Subway Midosuji Line to Namba (¥270, 15mins)
Above all, understand i have a lot of walking to be done on Day 1, for the other 2 days? should I be taking the Kansai Thru Pass? Only can purchase once?
or: Kyoto Sightseeing Card, Surutto Kansai Card, Miyako Card?
I will still be travelling from Osaka area for the next 6days.

IMHO, Kyoto attractions can be reach easily via bus and it's quite frequent. Buy the All-day bus pass instead, besides saving, you can enjoy the scenery in Kyoto and seeing the lifestyle of Kyoto's ppl.
My Kyoto trip is full on Bus & Foot.

kyoto sifu,
wanna ask about route to arashiyama - kinkakuji - kyoto station

my plan is like this.. morning take jr from kyoto to saga arashiyama
then take the sagano scenic train at trokko saga station to trokko kameoka
then from kameoka, back from trokko arashiyama and then explore araishiyama a while

my question is how do i go to kinkakuji from arashiyama,
best is take by bus or buy train?

thanks
*
There is no train from arashiyama to kinkakuji.
From Arashiyama, take Bus No. 11 to Yamagoe Naka-cho (transfer point), then change to Bus No.59 and get off at Kinkakuji-michi.
from kinkakuji, you may hoop in Bus No. 101 & 205 back to Kyoto station.
Why dont you do Kinkakuji first then Arashiyama? besides avoid the crowd, you may also take jr train back to kyoto at the end of your trip.
You can try explore arashiyama area first, then scenic train at last (remember last train depart at 5pm).

thansk for the info

why i didn't choose kinkakuji first is bcos i read few review saying kinkakuji is best to visit during 3-4pm cos that time the sunlight will shine towards the temple n the temple will looks very nice

maybe i should consider ur suggestion as well

u mean go kinkakuji first then only go araishiyama n take trokko train to kameoka then back to saga arashiyama n back to kyoto station?
*
Oh ic. weekdays ok lar, too crowded during weekends, sometimes.
there are alternatives, it's your call. i suggest that way is because you could have walked so much at kinkakuji n around arashiyama area, then you can just sit n relax yourself in train at ur last journey. Scenic train to torokko kameoka, then walk to umahori for JR train all the way back to Kyoto station. brows.gif

cool.. ur idea is nice.. can view the evening scene at arashiyama as well then only back to kyoto station

one thing i wanna ask if i depart from torokko arashiyama, issit possible? bcos most ppl will take the train from torokko saga (first station) and the train should be full already am i right, still able hop in at torokko arashiyama until kameoka?
*
Im not sure, week day should be ok, to be safe, once you reach arashiyama, buy ticket first lo. I heard that other place got sell the scenic train ticket, but i not sure which station, you may check it out...
if you have time, get a bus from arashiyama to Kyoto station. More to see.. brows.gif (given that you are not rush)

QUOTE(Oblivionz @ Oct 5 2012, 03:31 PM)
visit kinkakuji for 2 hours? you sure?

i went there and around less than 30 min i already finish touring there lol. unless you stop and do some prayers or eating some snack at some stalls there, at most you will stay there is around 1 hour cause you go there and look at the golden temple and some other scenic view, nothing more.

Of course you can visit some other temples/shrine near kinkakuji like the ryoanji temple.
*
yeah... 2 hours too much lar, unless you're waiting for the Golden time to shoot the Golden pavilion.

QUOTE(Ah WanG @ Oct 5 2012, 03:26 PM)
i not sure will be rush or not
my plan for that particular day in kyoto got only few places
kinkakuji and arashiyama for day
night not sure where to go yet

wanna ask ur oppinion,

is this a good plan?

morning take 8am bus no 50 to kinkakuji, reach at 9 (if take jr to enmachi then take bus 204, used 29 mins not sure which to pick yet)
visit kinkakuji 2 hours
after tat take bus 205 to jr enmachi, from jr enmachi take train to jr umahori
from umahori walk to Torokko Kameoka Station, take the scenenic train to torkko arashiyama and walk pass the bamboo forest to the arashiyama bridge
spend time till evening then back kyoto station by bus/train
*
if you finish earlier, you can catch a bus from arashiyama to nishiki market, from arashiyama bus no. 11 to Shijo-Takakura. Or somewhere around there likes Shinkyogoku-dori, Kawaramachi-dori & Ponto-cho-dori.
What about Gion area? suggest u go during evening, aim for Geisha drool.gif .
You need 1 night to explore Gion area. Some places like Gion Shirakawa - Shirakawa canal (night view with lantern lights), Shijo Avenue, Minamiza Theater, Hanami-koji Street or Gion Corner.
Feel free to top up ur itinerary~ whistling.gif

*
Shinjuku Sunroute hotel, Keio plaza are recommended. Pricy .. sweat.gif
You may try Shinjuku Prince Hotel, Kodoya hotel.. reasonable price. Shinjuku prince hotel stay for 3 nights got cheaper, high floor recommended, you can have the miniature scene of tokyo skytree and city view. Tons of restaurant and convenient shop and departmental store nearby. Main point, just cross one street to kabukicho!! icon_rolleyes.gif wub.gif

wanna ask ur advice is the idea of kyoto station-kinkakuji-umahori-torokko Kameoka -arashiyama-kyoto workable?

actually i have 3 days 3 nights in kyoto only, can't aim too much of places

first day is aiming ginkakuji, philosopher's path, kiyomizudera, if got time will go nijo castle, n night dunno do wat yet, maybe gion area as u suggested or Kawaramachi

2nday day aiming kinkakuji and arashiyama, night maybe kiyomizudera again (night session, it's open at night during the day i going)

3rd is tofukuji, fushimi inari, and nara (utilize the jr pass)

not sure workable or nto yet laugh.gif
*
kyoto station-kinkakuji-umahori-torokko Kameoka -arashiyama-kyoto
start your journey at morning should be fine. (before 9am). I think you can do Kinkakuji & Ryoanji in the morning. spend ur noon time at arashiyama till evening. Arashiyama has a lots to see if you want to, or else just stick to the iconic place like Tenryuji, Bamboo Grove, Togetsukyo bridge, Daikaku-ji & Otagi-Nenbutsu-ji temple....

no worries, your iti is nice. you can add nanzenji and/or heian shrine to ur first day. if u walk from philpth, u will passby there. Walk straight from the entrance of nanzenji, you will see the Big Torii on ur right, from the giant torii, Heian shrine is just further a bit.

Kyoto is a walking tour. thumbup.gif start jogging from now.. hehe! laugh.gif

wanna ask, can i cover gion and kawaramachi in a night?
for gion, u have suggestion Gion Shirakawa - Shirakawa canal and Hanami-koji Street
any idea what can do at kawaramachi?

meanwhile do u know how to buy the ticket for torokko train?

thanks
*
Advance ticket purchases and inquires may be made at major JR Western Japan station ticket couters, TiS (Travel Center) offices, JR travel service offices, and major travel agencies. Tickets may also be procured at the Saga, Arashiyama, and Kameoka tram stations. http://www.sagano-kanko.co.jp/eng/index.htm
Here for your info, http://www.sagano-kanko.co.jp/pdf/english.pdf

QUOTE(audreyreiko @ Oct 8 2012, 02:27 PM)
The 30 mins memang you can finish the stuff but the travelling there + waiting for bus/subway may take longer, so have to factor those in as well.

That and the fact that we're not familiar with the routes there will take us extra long to go from one location to another... like sometimes just standing in front of the board trying to figure out which way to go...etc.

Added on October 8, 2012, 2:28 pm

Kawaramachi lots of things and eateries to see, walk into the alleys for makan places and those souvenir shops, that's where we found our kyoto limited edition gashapons biggrin.gif
*
yeah, its a shopping street with lots of restaurants, bars, souvenirs shops. Pontocho is just next to kawaramachi, its one of the oldest geisha district. You'll meet some geisha if you lucky enuf.

Before u go jap, download all the transport information. Bus & train route map in japan can be downloaded. Plan b4 u go.

For a trip of 10 days, covered osaka, kyoto & tokyo area, using the average radiation data,
The level of radiation is slightly above the level of radiation for 1 time Chest x-ray (0.01rem), and below Mammogram breast x-ray (0.04rem). (given that the data is correto)
The level is before adding up our normal body level & the 2 ways commercial flight.

well i made my ryokan reservation liao. Ryokan Shimizu, 13600yen/night for 2pax (no meals). Can't afford any of the "top top" ryokan's so have to go for this one icon_idea.gif
*
There is 1 closer to kyoto station, Capsule Ryokan. they do have ensuite room for 2, 3,990yen/pax only. Its sister hotel, Backpackers' Budget Inn, next to capsule ryokan, also offer ensuites room for upto 5 pax, 3,990yen/pax as well. They have renovated their hotel & location surrounding by a lots of convenient shops, and 10mins walk from kyoto station. Recommended by Lonely Planet.
Another good choice for budget. thumbup.gif

Usually ryokan is more ex than hotel, unless is budget one. For those who choose to stay at ryokan, it's recommend to take their meal as well (at least 1 night), as you can try the original/traditional dishes cook by the local owner (truely local taste thumbup.gif ). Stay in ryokan, wear their yukata, eat traditional meal, sleep on futon spread on tatami floor, all that are good experiences to try on.

13.6k yen/night is considered already almost at the budget level for ryokan, the price levels are amazingly high (I too was surprised). Give you one example http://www.hiiragiya.co.jp/en/info/ ...

Room Rates:
Main Building 32,000 to 90,000 yen
New Wing 38,000 to 60,000 yen
Rates are per person per night, based on double occupancy

but include breakfast and dinner lah biggrin.gif
Well, since this is going to be my honeymoon so can't be THAT budget lol. Plus ryokan shimizu is ranked #2 on TripAdvisor so I hope it won't be a disappointment lol.
*
oh ya, for honeymoon, totally cannot budget la. must stay in a ryokan that have private onsen in room... thumbup.gif
find 1 around mt. fuji area with private onsen & onsen with fuji view, definitely will boost up ur "productivity". lol...

but bro, is that legal in japan? coz i heard they dont like customer like that and chase you out of the hotel if they found out.

if its like malaysia, book 1 room, squeeze in as many person as possible, then i think i can save alot when i go jap in december smile.gif
*
Got some info from other sources & japanese, they said they are very strict on this matters.
"They don't spy on you, but it will be quite clear by TV Monitors and front desk near the elevators. As soon as they find out that you are in room with an unregistered / unpaid person, be it male or female, you will be in serious trouble as some places declare outright that they call the police right away if found so.

You should pay for the number of people in a room. In Japan, rules are generally the last word, there is really no room for negotiation or bargaining, or bribing. If you break it, and if found out, you would be in serious trouble. You shouldn't risk things just for saving money."

Hi, I think you better check with the hotel first or look at the conditions of the rooms before you book. Some hotel rooms doesn't allow extra bed due to room size limit.
