Replacing your Thompson router with a 3rd party is what you want first?

Have you got your internet up yet?
Get it up first then think of how to make the VoIP work.

First of all you can't access the fibre ONT yet so you can't plug in 2 Thompson and 3rd party as you like since you need to tag ports to their respective VLAN IDs on your Huawei set. Without accessing its web screen, you can't do anything.

So what you can do is replace the Thompson router where it plugs in with the new Asus you have.

On V#  0
VID: 621
Port 2: Tick It & Have it tagged
WAN Port have it ticked but DON'T tag it
Check Default
Bridge: Set WAN from the pull down. (To allow your VLAN#0 access to WAN for internet)

Save and Reboot. Check if you have port 2 connected to your computer.
*
Hi, thanks for the steps. I had tried your steps above and I'm getting error "Cannot proceed one and only one VID must be assigned to the primary LAN (br0).

What I did is:

1(VLAN), 1(VID) Yes(Port1), Yes(Port3), Yes(Port4), LAN(br0) - Bridge
2(VLAN), 621(VID), Yes(Port2), On(Tagged), Yes(WAN Port), *(Default), WAN - Bridge

Connection is Huawei ONT LAN2 is connected to Asus Router WAN port. The dialer is set to:
PPoE
22222@home.maxis.com.my
222221

Status is connecting.

Am I set the settings correctly?

Did you leave 0(VLAN) untouched or clear it?

Your LAN(br0) has multi VID assigned to it resulting in conflict.

Why do you want to set the Thompson as bridge?

If you can tag the VLAN ID to specific ports of the Huawei ONT, then you can plug in any devices you want thereafter using its ports.

Meaning BTU--> Devices

If you set the Thompson as bridge. Then Minimum you have to pass through 3 devices in all:
BTU-> Thompson(as VLAN switch) -> Devices

Try imitating jssc's VLAN settings although it's a little different.

Off = unticked
Untagged = ticked but not tagged
Tagged = ticked and tagged
CPU = I'm not sure but it's could be WAN for bridge or br0 ( this you need to play around )
I'm guessing the line with untagged ports 3,4,5 is CPU=LAN(br0) & tagged Port 1 CPU=WAN

Don't bother about the VLAN ID = 822 since it's associated with the VoIP?

Start from Line 1 = VLAN# 0

Based on your screen you connect your BTU(Huawei)-> TPLink
Then out of the 4 ports of the TP-Link,
You connect your computer to Port1(VID=621) for internet and the Thompson to Port 2 for VoIP(VID=822)?

Looks very messy unless you plan to do away with the VoIP alltogether and the Huawei web screen can't be touch.
Or you can find a replacement for the Thompson router with built in VoIP sockets and 3 digits VLAN ID.

The guide on the first page already have the VLAN ID tagged for you by the Huawei BTU based on specific ports, so you just plug in the other routers like usual.

I using the TP-Link to connect internet..

Huawei -> TPlink - WAN

computer can using WIFI or connect to LAN2-4 for internet

TPlink - LAN1 -> thomson (VOIP)
since don't hv any voip device to support Maxis VOIP. so use thomson for VOIP. If can find any other Voip device can support also can connect to this port.

You are actually almost there if you are imitating jssc's screen.

1) Noticed line 2 where WAN Port is tagged? His setting is off which means unticked and not tagged.
Reboot if see if it's working

Else if still failing to connect.

2) We do not know what CPU means whether it's WAN or LAN1(br0). Try switching WAN for the first line and LAN1(br0) for VLAN ID 621 tagged Port 2 line.

If all still fails, there's something wrong elsewhere. You might want to reflash to another 3rd party firmware.

Other Tomato fimware users are eager to know too from your experience. Thanks.

This is my first time use openwrt. as what I understand, the CPU is mean Router.

the vlan ID 822. the LAN1 or Port2 is connect to any other VOIP device. I using thomson for VOIP.

I try not to do any change on huawei modem. to make it simple, in future any problem with the modem, just call maxis to change it. it can be any brand and model. as long as maxis still using VLAN ID 621 for data and 822 for VOIP
It should work on all modem.

Jssc,

Referring to page one default settings of the BTU and referring to your settings, it's like LAN 2 on the BTU by default is already binded and tagged.

Your port 2-4 functions as internet ports and in your screenshot they are all set to off for VLAN ID=621 except for CPU.
So in his case what does CPU mean? Either LAN(br0) or WAN?

thamch and jssc,

I'm reading a few web screens for Huawei BTU and seems to find conflicting port assignments for their rulings.Some use port 1 others use port 2 to hook up the router.

But here is the general guide to handle them if you come to find out the VLAN rules INSIDE the BTU.

user posted image

For the particular VLAN ID=621 rule inside your BTU:

1) Has ONLY Port Binding checked, then all you need is to hook a regular router without VLAN capabilities to that particular port to connect to the internet.

2) If both Port binding and VLAN Tagging is checked, then you need to hook up a device that CAN handle VLAN untagging just like your customized 3rd party firmware.

On that particular router(next device after the BTU) with the 3rd party firmware, you DO NOT tag or port bind on the ports you want to use for the INTERNET for the particular VLAN ID ruling.

So you need to find out which port your Thompson router is connected to for the Huawei ONT and by default, the port binding and VLAN tagging should be checked inside your BTU settings.

May I know which model? HG8240? and you managed to go online with your own router without relying on an extra switch?

Yes that's why I suspect from your VLAN ruling in your TP-Link router, the Huawei modem settings for its LAN2 port which you connect your router to it has (port binding + vlan tagging) ticked inside its settings.

So in your TP-Link router, for the VLAN ID=621 ruling inside, you OFF them all from port 2-4 and they're the ones allowed to access the internet.

For your port1 which you use for VoIP, you re-tagged them with VLAN ID=822 again so it can be forwarded to the next device.

This will forward all ports to specific IP. I've done it. Waiting Maxis to provide me Public IP.

May try Toastman firmware if it supports 3 digit VLAN

This is what I had done so far. Do suggest all possible settings to make it success.

Hi, i'm not using Huawei modem, but using White colour Alcatel Lucent modem, currently plug in the Thomson router into LAN port #2 at Alcatel modem. So, if i want to replace thomson router for internet, what should do? Is it need to configure the Alcatel modem? Or just leave thomson router as VoIP and plug in my new router to LAN port#3 as internet and wifi??

Please advise.... because thomson router keep on disconnect...

If you still need the Voip, you can try my setting using tplink wr1043 and flash to openwrt. U don't need to change anything setting on modem. Just connect the tplink to modem lan2, then Thomson connect to tplink lan1.

If I not mistaken, the setting I set can be use for all modem. But I'm only tester on Huawei modem and not yet test on other modem.
