Guys, I have an Asus RT-N16 with Shibby's Tomato firmware but couldn't get it to work with the Huawei ONT (HG8240). I follow this settings:

hmm, since we are not able to connect our router to the ONT directly, means the only way left is to connect it to the Thomson instead and set the WAN connection type to DHCP. The clients will then connect only to the custom router and routing/connection will be all handled in the custom router and forward only WAN packet to Thomson. I'm wondering whether we still benefit from better processing power in custom router by using this method

QUOTE(erichhl @ Jul 27 2012, 11:29 AM) the only benefit is u get better wifi experience than using the wifi from the thomson router. Remember if you are doing this method please off the wifi function on the thomson router, just let your custom router to handle all the wifi function. and i believe by doing this the thomson router will be litter bit more stable because less workload less heat. QUOTE(kenjixx @ Jul 27 2012, 11:32 AM) https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2441911 ok, perhaps the only benefit is really the better WiFi experience, until we can finally get rid of Thomson you can see from this thread that thomson router gives very bad latency i seriously dun think that it is worth to do a connection like that |

QUOTE(benlye @ Aug 20 2012, 12:17 AM) Hhmm. Guys. I'd like to confirm 1 thing on this. bro benlye, YOU ARE THE MAN! I can't thank you enough for finding out the vlan ID (11) which is being use on Huawei HG8240! 1) Maxis uses 2 diff Vlan ID for HSI Those using TM Modem (Vlan Tag is 621) Those using Modem provided by Maxis (Vlan Tag is 11) [The following setting is based on this] Please refer to Attachment. This is a Thomson Config file i've downloaded for backup. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Also I'd like to share my experience using TPLink 1043ND router with Huawei Echolife HG8240 & Thomson (mainly for VoIP) All Vlan Tagging are done on the TPlink router hence there is no need to configure the Echolife HG8240. *I'd like to point out that not everyone is done in this manner, hence please check before following the guide. This is how my wiring setup » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This is how i've configure the Switch & Vlan Tagging Setting (Under Network --> Switch) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I also like to highlight that Port 1 in the image is WAN port, Port 2 is Eth 1 ... Port 5 is Eth 4 For my case i used Eth 4 hence is port 5. Take note on the Vlan ID 1 under Port 5 change it to off. Add Vlan ID 11 and change Port 5 to "Tagged" & CPU to "Tagged" then save & apply This is the WAN Setting (Under Network -- > Interface --> WAN) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Change the setting to VLAN Interface eth0.11 then save & apply Then under General Setup (Under Network -- > Interface --> WAN) Change protocol to PPPOE enter username xxxxx@home.maxis.com.my or xxxxx@public.maxis.com.my password is usually the xxxxx1 (where xxxxx represents the 5 digit before @home.maxis) Save & apply.. You are done This post has been edited by wiind: Aug 22 2012, 11:28 PM |

QUOTE(benlye @ Aug 24 2012, 09:43 AM) 1) you need to figure out the Admin login for the Thomson router. Many thanks, will try it out Username : Administrator (*take note it is case sensitive. make sure it is capital A) Password : <access key> at the back of your router label. 2) Then login using the Administrator account 3) On the Thomson Gateway menu, click Configuration. 4) In the Pick a task list, click Save or Restore Configuration. 5) Under Backup current configuration, click Backup Configuration Now. 6) The Thomson Gateway prompts you to save your backup file. 7) Save your file to a location of your choice. 8) use text editor to open the file. |
