I just got back from a 3D/2N trip in Langkawi last Monday with my friends, so time to write my report =)
We reached Langkawi at 8.30am, as we're leaving the airport, we decided to a new Grand Livina for RM250 (you must bargain with those people or else they’ll slaughter you with cut-throat prices) & drove straight to Malibest Resort, 6 of us in 3 different rooms.
In regards to the resort, I’ve walked along Cenang beach & somehow only Malibest Resort’s part of the beach has clean, smooth & soft white sands! Once you walked out of Malibest area, the beach are comparable to Port Dickson in my opinion. So if you want to have nice beach to enjoy, Malibest the place to be. But sadly, the condition of the resort isn’t that good. There are significant wear & tear but it’s bearable to us (no major complaints). We booked 1 Super Deluxe Beach Front & 2 new beach front rooms (it’s not in their website yet, newly built we were told). There are several water sport for those who are interested, we tried Jet Ski only which was RM100/30 minutes (also gotta bargain). There's a RM120/30 minutes for the bigger engine one, but in my opinion, the smaller engine one should be sufficient unless you intend to go for 120km/p.
Our trip was rather relaxing, we went for the Island Hopping tour (RM30/pax for 4 hours) on our first day & Mangrove tour (RM90/pax for 7 hours) on our second day. Both tours are by Malibest’s sister company – De Baron Holiday.
For the Island Hopping tour, we were sent to;
1) Pulau Dayang Bunting. There’s a fresh water lake with some water activities on top of swimming.
2) Pulau Singa Besar. Just a stop at the ocean to watch the eagle feeding from the boat. The boatman will generally toss chicken skin onto the ocean & let the eagles to feed on it.
3) Pulau Beras Basah. It’s just another beach for you to chill & relax.
In my opinion, the best part of the Island Hopping is the eagle feeding. It’s a fantastic sight to see the eagles (there’s like 30 to 40 eagles flying around) hovering around, diving down & grab the chicken skins. Tragically they only allocated like 10 to 15 minutes for eagle watching, too short for me. I could spend an hour watching those eagles.
For the Mangrove tour, we were sent to;
1) Bat Cave
2) Crocodile Cave (boring)
3) Fish Farm
4) Mangrove Sightseeing
5) Eagle Feeding (at the mangroves)
6) Monkey Feeding (they actually let the monkeys jump into the boat)
7) A beach to relax & swim
8) Another uncommon island
As for the Mangrove tour, the best part for me would be the Restaurant + Fish Farm. It’s a floating restaurant on the ocean (like Baratie lol), funny thing is they served us chicken instead of seafood. In the fish farm, there is a giant blotched fantail ray, giant grouper, huge barracudas & a leopard shark. It’s like half of Aquaria KLCC’s highlights are there.
As for food, below are the ones we tried;
1) Orchid Ria (Chinese food) – Excellent! will definitely come back to this restaurant.
2) Vivia Italia (Italian) – Not bad, exactly in front of Malibest, so it’s very convenient.
3) Red Tomato (Italian) – Not bad.
