Hi all,

I'm trying to plan a trip to Langkawi. Just to check with you all, if I'm planning to stay in one of the hotels in Cenang beach, how much does the airport taxi roughly cost to the hotel?

Then if I'd like to join the Mangrove Tour, Sunset Cruise, Fishing Trip, Sky Bridge, Bird Park etc, do I need to rent a car or will those day-tour company organize to pick us up from our hotel? Seems like I do need a car for Sky Bridge, Bird Park, Aquarium, Croc Farm etc.

taxi price unsure, but shud be less than RM20 per cab

If you stay in Cenang, then for mangrove tour just met up where you buy the tix. Sunset cruise will usually able to fetch u

Underwaterworld is just located at Cenang, so you can just walk there. Cenang beach not that long only

And yes for others, you need to rent a car. Taking taxi 1 by 1 to all those places is more expansive than renting a car. Langkawi road all 1 straight road only, easy to drive, no traffic and won't get lost

Thanks for the info!! =)

Hi all, I'm flying to Langkawi in like 9 hours time. So will probably reach Langkawi around 8.30am, do you think we can make it for the 9am Mangrove tour or Island Hopping at Cenang Beach? Do they have a package that starts at 10am instead?

Or else, what can I do until check-in time which will be at 3pm?

At pantau cenang now.. Any1 can recommend good Chinese restaurant in pantai cenang here? Good and not so exp one.. Is mangrove tour rm90 worth to go?
*
Chinese restaurant: Orchid Ria. I went there with 5 people & the total bill was RM164, didn't crabs though, fish, squid, tofu, 2 veggies & prawn.

Mangrove tour, to me was enjoyable. I've gained a lot here, I'll write a report of my trip in a few days time cause I'm getting photos from my friends.

I just got back from a 3D/2N trip in Langkawi last Monday with my friends, so time to write my report =)

We reached Langkawi at 8.30am, as we're leaving the airport, we decided to a new Grand Livina for RM250 (you must bargain with those people or else they’ll slaughter you with cut-throat prices) & drove straight to Malibest Resort, 6 of us in 3 different rooms.

In regards to the resort, I’ve walked along Cenang beach & somehow only Malibest Resort’s part of the beach has clean, smooth & soft white sands! Once you walked out of Malibest area, the beach are comparable to Port Dickson in my opinion. So if you want to have nice beach to enjoy, Malibest the place to be. But sadly, the condition of the resort isn’t that good. There are significant wear & tear but it’s bearable to us (no major complaints). We booked 1 Super Deluxe Beach Front & 2 new beach front rooms (it’s not in their website yet, newly built we were told). There are several water sport for those who are interested, we tried Jet Ski only which was RM100/30 minutes (also gotta bargain). There's a RM120/30 minutes for the bigger engine one, but in my opinion, the smaller engine one should be sufficient unless you intend to go for 120km/p.

Our trip was rather relaxing, we went for the Island Hopping tour (RM30/pax for 4 hours) on our first day & Mangrove tour (RM90/pax for 7 hours) on our second day. Both tours are by Malibest’s sister company – De Baron Holiday.

For the Island Hopping tour, we were sent to;
1) Pulau Dayang Bunting. There’s a fresh water lake with some water activities on top of swimming.
2) Pulau Singa Besar. Just a stop at the ocean to watch the eagle feeding from the boat. The boatman will generally toss chicken skin onto the ocean & let the eagles to feed on it.
3) Pulau Beras Basah. It’s just another beach for you to chill & relax.

In my opinion, the best part of the Island Hopping is the eagle feeding. It’s a fantastic sight to see the eagles (there’s like 30 to 40 eagles flying around) hovering around, diving down & grab the chicken skins. Tragically they only allocated like 10 to 15 minutes for eagle watching, too short for me. I could spend an hour watching those eagles.

For the Mangrove tour, we were sent to;
1) Bat Cave
2) Crocodile Cave (boring)
3) Fish Farm
4) Mangrove Sightseeing
5) Eagle Feeding (at the mangroves)
6) Monkey Feeding (they actually let the monkeys jump into the boat)
7) A beach to relax & swim
8) Another uncommon island

As for the Mangrove tour, the best part for me would be the Restaurant + Fish Farm. It’s a floating restaurant on the ocean (like Baratie lol), funny thing is they served us chicken instead of seafood. In the fish farm, there is a giant blotched fantail ray, giant grouper, huge barracudas & a leopard shark. It’s like half of Aquaria KLCC’s highlights are there.

As for food, below are the ones we tried;

1) Orchid Ria (Chinese food) – Excellent! will definitely come back to this restaurant.
2) Vivia Italia (Italian) – Not bad, exactly in front of Malibest, so it’s very convenient.
3) Red Tomato (Italian) – Not bad.

what's the difference of the super deluxe beach front and the new beach front room?

new room got newer furniture?
*
Difference in price (RM20 or RM30 extra), plus super deluxe is brick while the new one is wooden. It's like the tree house built on land lol.

Personally, i'd think the super deluxe beach front is better. I'll go for that one on my next trip.

The disappointing part about the new beach front room is even though it's built on the beach (like the super deluxe), the door is build on the side, so it's not facing the beach. However the room has glass wall that's facing the beach (i can't appreciate this though, rather just go out & lie on the beach).

Let me dig for photos of that new wooden rooms later, i didn't take much photo since it's a bit disappointing.

ahhh even the new room is disappointing huh?

i really loved where malibest super deluxe beachfront room is located. 2 steps out of room is the beach, glass wall that face the beach, 100m from room door to the sea, mang, those are awesome

but the room....it seriously need a total refurbish sad.gif

PS: pls...some pics of new room biggrin.gif

Yea, I like Malibest beach front rooms too & I strongly agree that they need to at least touch-up or maintain their rooms. The wear & tear is obvious, but fortunately not bad to the point that it's spoiling our holidays.

These are the new rooms, only got 2 photos sorry. As you can see, there is a full height glass window facing the sea.

Hi all!
Going to langkawi next month with my wife n 2 children by Air Asia flight. Is it allow to wear slippers or sandals during boarding?
*
I wore shorts & slippers too. Even brought a mineral bottle from home onboard. It's like a bus ride, a very expensive bus ride.

I thought Langkawi seafood no longer cheap ??
*
Well, it's neither very cheap nor very expensive. Reasonable KL rate in my opinion. If you want really cheap seafood, can try Kuala Selangor.

besides Malibest resort any other recommendation ? we going for 4D3N

If you want a beach front hotel along Cenang with a nice white sandy beach to chill & relax, Malibest is the place to be. But if you're gonna be traveling around, any other resort will be fine.

I've walked quite a long stretch along Cenang, only Malibest's beach has soft, smooth & white sands. The other area are kinda dirty & rough.
